The Real Reason Kirk Cousins isnt a Jet

Agents of non-quarterbacks told me Monday (after the "legal tampering" period commenced at noon) that the Jets were effectively paralyzed because of their uncertainty over whether or not they'd get Cousins. In short, the Jets couldn't make firm commitments with most other free agents until they knew whether they'd have to allocate a sizeable amount of cash to Cousins.

There was one more important wrinkle that shouldn't be ignored. McCartney also represents Josh McCown, who made it clear for months that he wanted to return to the Jets. My understanding is that the Jets were indeed interested in bringing back McCown, but he wasn't a priority for them at the start of free agency. They wanted to sign Cousins and add McCown as a backup down the road.

Now, McCown, who got more money ($10 million) that he would have if Cousins were on the Jets, has the inside track to be the starter entering the team's offseason program.

There are some folks on One Jets Drive who believe this was all designed to get McCown back as the Jets starter (for now). Perhaps that's sour grapes, but it is a real sentiment in the building.

McCartney, however, doesn't have to apologize to anyone for putting both his clients in terrific positions, but the Jets' disappointment/anger towards him is understandable.

just look at the money.  the agent represented cousins and mccown.  cousins signs for a few bucks less than the jets offered and mccown signs for quite a few bucks more than he really deserves as a back up journey.  between the two contracts the agents cut is greater than if the jets signed cousins and didn't bother with mccown.

I would take anything Lil'Manish says with a ocean's worth of salt. But why did you resign McCown? Why is he getting $10 million? Makes no sense. Nobody was bidding for this guy, could've waited until  after the draft AGAIN and paid him significantly less if you still wanted him and Bridgewater and a draft pick..

The real reason why he didn't sign here is because the Jets suck. He had to be thinking to himself, this is the sh*ttiest OL I've ever seen. I'll be a crash test dummy playing behind this bunch of stiffs.

Cousins knew he had zero chance of winning here. That is all 100% Mac's doing. He's spent 3 years ruining this team. Now all of those problems have come to roost. Mac has managed to perpetuate the laughingstock reputation the Jets have.

You guys can't all be that dumb! 1) consider the source 2) agents will look to make the most money possible. Cousins to the Jets with McCown signed for less at a later date would still net McCartney a bigger payday.

Just look at our stadium and new practice facility and you will know why.  He will be playing in a climate controlled loudest stadium in the NFL with the most advanced training facility known to this earth at the present time.  If you haven't seen it, get on the Google machine.  I drive by it every day, it's a pretty awesome sight.

Our defense alone gives him 3 extra series a game, his stats will be off the charts.

Add coach Zim to the mix and it' a no brainer.

Also this is only a 3 yr deal. I’m sure cousins’s agent convinced him the jets will likely diminish his value, and possibly his health. A coach who treats the O like a second rate citizen, and a team who does not care much about protecting the qb with a decent Oline. Bowles didn’t help the jets by stating he believed we passed too much last yr. When in reality we were in the middle of the pack or bellow average in passing attempts?  Handing the ball off a ton, and only passing on 3rd and long when the D knows pass is coming isn’t going to fair well for qb looking to prove his worth.

Legit, Manish got the inspiration for this crap from troll bait I posted here yesterday.

I said this about three weeks ago.  Conflict of interest.  Getting commission on a Cousins deal for $90M isn’t as sweet as getting commission on Cousins’ $84M plus McCown’s $10M.

Back to back scoldings from Texas and Minnesota. People wonder why I get so emotional about the Jets sucking, it’s because of this—it makes us vulnerable to humiliation, even from the depths of flyover country.

Lol... dude, sorry, not meant like that, believe me, our daily scolding come from the packer fans. Here in the twin cities it' like 25% packer fans... they can be brutal and have the hardware to back it up.  No ridicule meant, but yes, your team needs to spend some $ on facilities.

Cousins was never ever gonna sign here no matter what and the agent held us hostage to use us to bid up the vikes, while freezing us out of the QB market long enough to leave us with no choice but to pay McCown what he asked. That's the hypothesis of the article.

That's not a conflict, that's some mighty fine negotiating. Agent earned his $$ this day.

His stats were off the charts in Washington too. Glad you guys got him. I will love watching Cousins throw for 4000 yds and you guys going 8-8. Vuck the Fikings.

But the point is, once again Mac was bidding against no one.  There was never another suitor for McCown except for the Jets.

Mac really doesn't know what he's doing.

It’s a conflict because he led his client towards the inferior offer.

How do you figure? He maximized the offer from the team his client was always going to select basically no matter what.

I think the Cards were dealing with McCown before taking Bradford.

Cousin's can take his prayer and shove it up his ass. The only real reason I wanted Cousins here  was because hes a good QB and we would have been able to use our 6th pick to either take another great player , have the remote possibility Barkley fell to us at 6 or trade out to gain more picks.

QB

RB

and OL are the only focus I want to see after we land the Honey Badger !!!!
