Jets Reportedly Agree to Terms With DL Xavier Cooper

The Jets have reportedly come to terms on a one-year contract with defensive lineman Xaiver Cooper.

Cooper was a late-season addition to Gang Green and played surprisingly well once malcontent Mo Wilkerson was banished to the bench.

Good news! He really got after it last season.  When he wasn't tendered, I was surprised, but apparently there was a plan in place.  If we can re-up Kony Ealy, we should be set on the DL

Our DL with the exception of Leonard Williams is a bunch of JAG's.

Sure wish Sheldon and Mo hadn't crapped out on us.  Man that DL was looking pretty sweet.  Now it's Williams and a bunch of JAGS.

Thanks  Being in Buffalo I usually only get to see 2-3 Jets games per year.    ROLL TIDE

Xavier Cooper was a solid, solid wavier wire pick up. Loved what he did down the stretch as a rotational guy. Really disrupted some plays.

Good signing..now go lock down Kony Ealy and grab the Ex-Colt Jonathan Allen to start next to Leo.

Leo/Allen/Cooper/Ealy is a solid ass line up.

I like this signing because this kid is a football player , not a sexy type, but a lunch pail type who just make plays . Every NFL team needs players like this guy .

Agreed, does the dirty work but also makes some plays that can stand out on tape if you watch enough. Very good depth guy. Definitely need guys like this.

Three first round draft picks would have that effect.  Doesn;t last long on  the D line. Should have made that investment on O line.

I think that “Elite” DL you speak of was overhyped. How many sacks where they getting a year as a cohesive unit?

No, the Jets D-line had a lot of big name -big mouth no play making trouble makers .  Give me a football player every day over a guy looking to make a big payday .

Definitely underperformed. But the potential of Sheldumb, Mo and Snacks was highly promising.

Looking back on the complaints of Macc taking Leo, THANK FREAKING GOD! Mo turned out to be a lazy fat azz waste of all our money & Sheldon was a loser off the field & playing next to Bennett in Seattle had all of 2 sacks! Wow, could you imagine this current Dline WITHOUT Leo? Macc had nothing to do with drafting Mo or Richardson. As a GM it's tough to let EVERYBODY WALK, the fan base would have been unmerciful if he let Mo walk.

I didn't like the Mo signing (I always thought he lazy & played when he wanted to), but I don't blame Macc for trying to keep him, he was looked at as our best young player, and Richardson had the off field speeding with a teen in UP IN SMOKE moment.

Jet fans kill Macc but this team had such bad draft picks, a barren cupboard, no QBs, literally no young talent other than Enunwa & even he got injured. If Macc drafts us a long term franchise QB on April 26th, it will usurp any mistakes he made in the past.

The potential was absolutely promising. Just all run stuffers unfortunately. Sheldon had a nice rookie year and Wilk did get sacks once upon a time.

I can’t say he didn’t.

But each players specialty was run stopping.

Makes sense.  Budget signing.  Dude played over 70% of the snaps while Mo was out and the D wasnt terrible those weeks.

Help me. The only Jonathan Allen DL I can think of is the rookie from Alabama with the Redskins.

Hardly. The majority of Mac’s picks have been huge busts given the positions he’s targeted early in every draft. Couple that with the useless FA signings over the years and it’s clear he has done squat to right this ghost ship  👻🚢.  This is his last hurrah to get it right. Whoever he selects better have an immediate impact. Of course that judgement may have to wait a year cause you know Bowles only has eyes for McClown.

F*ck, meant Jonathan Hankins lmao. Sorry. But he is impressive and was only released due to scheme change..young player as well..could be a long term solution.

The lack of a pass rusher really hurt this DL. And the secondary wasn’t much help either. I’m sure many still grieve at what could have been.

Crazy thing is the bust frequency should be even less for him as Mr. BAP. Expect it more when you're reaching in an endeavor to force-feed a position of need.

Oh yeah, definitely. Honestly if we would of just had 1 competent pass rusher..whether that be an OLB or a DE..the secondary as horrible as it was since shortly after the early days of Revis/Cro would have had just a slightly less impact on busted big plays..not much of one..but it would of made a difference. Run stuffing is great but we still got tore UP against speedy backs like McCoy. It didn’t have much purpose.

But yes. Lots of grief. Too much draft capital for it to turn out this way.
