Possible Jets QB target likes what he saw in gutsy draft trade

The Jets turned the NFL world on its head Saturday with a blockbuster trade to move up to the No. 3 spot in the draft. Most observers assumed the move was to ensure they would get one of the top quarterbacks available, like Wyoming’s Josh Allen.

Without saying whether he’d like to end up in New York, Allen gave his approval to the Jets’ gutsy move Monday in a radio interview on SiriusXM.

Asked what he thought of the Jets sending three second-round picks to the Colts in exchange for moving up to No. 3, Allen said the move was “a team’s job.”

“If they find the guy that they fall in love with, I think that’s a team’s job to go get him,” Allen said. “If they feel like that’s the future of their program, I think what they did — they only traded, what, three second-round picks? … To keep their first-round pick next year was pretty big. … I think they still got some good quality there.”

Allen also addressed the accuracy — or inaccuracy — issue that dogged him in college, which he blamed on a footwork problem.

“I think that any time that I would miss in college, that was largely in part due to my feet,” he said. “Once [my] feet started to clean up, that’s when you saw the ball being placed in the right positions.”

The Jets, who will be picking behind the Browns at No. 1 and Giants at No. 2, also may have a shot at Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, widely considered the other top quarterback choices in the draft.
