I didn’t really want to do it, just because it’s never happened before. But as I passed this mock draft around to scouts and execs and coaches over the last few days, I didn’t get much pushback. In fact, I actually got some approval. So what we’ve got here: Quarterbacks going 1-2-3-4.

“I don’t think it’s too aggressive,” said one scouting director. “If you don’t go up and get them, you may never get one.”

You’ve been hearing that the class isn’t that good? Well, two years ago, there was supposedly no Jameis Winston and no Marcus Mariot. Then two teams traded up to get Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, and it’s fair to say that neither the Rams nor the Eagles regret it. Last year’s crop was considered even worse, yet three teams dealt up to find theirs, and Chicago (Mitch Trubisky), Kansas City (Patrick Mahomes) and Houston (Deshaun Watson) feel good about it now. Likewise, the race is now on. The Jets got up to 3, and that puts the pressure on quarterback-needy teams (Buffalo? Arizona? Denver?) to get into position to draft one of the top four.

1. Cleveland: Sam Darnold, QB, USC
Darnold is not perfect, but he’s still a damn good prospect. And when GM John Dorsey is looking for a leader he’s comfortable tying his professional future to, I think this 20-year-old is the guy.

2. Buffalo (projected trade with N.Y. Giants): Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming
The Bills have done a nice job building capital for a bold swing. This is one. Allen’s potential is limitless, and his big frame and arm are made for Buffalo, though he has a ways to go.

3. N.Y. Jets (from Indianapolis): Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
I like the personality fit and on-field match between OC Jeremy Bates and Rosen, who’s seen as a “not for everyone” type of kid. He is the most evolved and natural passer in this group.

4. Denver (projected trade with Cleveland, owner of Houston’s pick): Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
Denver had Mayfield at the Senior Bowl, and they have a starter, in Case Keenum, who lines up nicely with his style. So the Broncos throw another dart at the QB board.

5. Cleveland (projected trade with Denver): Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
Imagine that. Cleveland gets its quarterback at 1, moves out of 4, and somehow still lands the player that most scouts regard as the best in the draft.

6. Indianapolis (from N.Y. Jets): Bradley Chubb, EDGE, N.C. State
This would be a great scenario for GM Chris Ballard—all those picks intact, and Chubb and Quenton Nelson still on the board. The tiebreaker between the two? Position value.

7. Tampa Bay: Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
Fitzpatrick is a more athletic, less physical version of Malcolm Jenkins who can play all over the secondary. If there’s a criticism, it’s that he’s maxed out. But he’s damn good already.

8. Chicago: Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame
I’ve had Denzel Ward here. But should Nelson fall this far, my guess is that new O-line coach Harry Hiestand, coming from Notre Dame, will make his opinion known.

9. San Francisco: Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech
I’m on record loving the fit for Edmunds in a Seattle-style defense, playing the role K.J. Wright does for the Seahawks and De’Vondre Campbell does for the Falcons. I’ll sticking with that.

10. Oakland: Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia
Another fit I’ve loved for a while, this is where “best player available” meets a crying need for a team. Smith has potential, as a middle linebacker, to emerge as the nerve center of a defense for a decade.

11. Miami: Da’Ron Payne, DL, Alabama
I flirted with putting Marcus Davenport here, but in the end, with Ndamukong Suh gone, Miami needs help on the interior more. Payne is a safe pick in this area.

12. N.Y. Giants (projected trade with Buffalo, owner of Cincinnati’s pick): Marcus Davenport, EDGE, UTSA
Word is the Giants love Barkley and Nelson, and I know dealing down isn’t in Gettleman’s history. But I think the offers will entice, and Davenport would be a good get at 12.

If they can land Davenport at 12 and a boatload of picks it's a no brainer. It's a super deep RB class where they can find a Kareem Hunt type talent in the 2nd which is more than enough to pair with Odell/Engram/Sheppard on offense.

If you aren't taking a QB at 2, there is no point in staying at 2.

I’d imagine Breer is suggesting that they love Barkley, but not enough to turn down two ones, two twos, etc.

Far and away the best case scenario for the Jets. 1. Gets them Rosen instead of Allen, 2. Ensures the Giants are rebuilding next year, 3. Depletes the Bills’ draft resources while they try to make Josh Allen work.

True, unless Allen turns out to be far better than Rosen and Jets fans in a few years all pretend that they knew Allen would be better than Rosen.

I’d think the chances of Allen becoming better than Rosen are similar to the chances of Lamar Jackson being better than both.

Allen has the arm strength for that type of weather in Buffalo but if he is as in accurate as his numbers show then that could be a problem.   Giants are in a great but tough spot.  Denver or Cleveland is a good trading partner so that they can still get Nelson but I believe they want Barkley and wont trade.   They will have a great core of young players in Barkley, Beckham, Sheppard and Engram.  Manning, Webb or a free agent QB down the line can do pretty well with those weapons.

Totally agree. To go from #2 to #12 ? Can't see the Giants going that far South and missing out on a premium player.

If the Jets are supposedly ok with their 3rd choice of QB's, assuming the two picking front of them select their 1st and 2nd choice, then perhaps Cleveland feels the same way.  They go Barkley and worse case scenario they get their 3rd rated QB.

Of course we don't know what the ranking order is for  Cleveland, NYG or the Jets.

The USC RB Jones I think his name is. He is considered the most well rounded back and is the fastest. If G-Men aren't taking a QB at two they should trade out I think.

These mocks that having the giants trading to number 11 make no sense.

Either they are rebuilding and will select at QB at 2 or they are going for it now and select Barkley or the farthest they trade back is with the browns or Broncos and take Nelson.

They don't need a ton of pieces, so stockpiling picks doesn't make sense.

agree.  the bills are another team who have had a hard time finding a good qb.  they've had a pretty good revolving door for quite some time.

And I betcha the media throws a parade for the Bills trading up...just saying.

Oh you know they will.  They could give up every pick in this draft and 5 future #1s....but since it's not the Jets making that trade it would be praised as a genius move.

If they do make a trade with the Giants, I hope the Giants bend them over like Donald Trump on a porn star.

I could see a scenario with buffalo and Denver swapped.... So Denver jumps up to #2 to get their guy Mayfield, Allen whatever.... Giants only move back to 5 and probably still land Nelson or Barkley,  and then Jets get Rosen and cleveland trades with Buffalo pick up 2 more first rounders for rebuilding their club and the price is too good to pass up.

So essentially it would go:

1. Cleveland: Sam Darnold, QB, USC  or Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming

2. Denver (projected trade with N.Y. Giants): Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming or  Sam Darnold, QB, USC

3. N.Y. Jets (from Indianapolis): Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA

4. Buffalo (projected trade with Cleveland, owner of Houston’s pick): Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma

5. Giants (projected trade with Denver): Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State or Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame

6. Indianapolis (from N.Y. Jets): Bradley Chubb, EDGE, N.C. State or Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State

7. Tampa Bay: Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama or Bradley Chubb, EDGE, N.C. State

8. Chicago: Quenton Nelson, G, Notre Dame or Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama

9. San Francisco: Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech

10. Oakland: Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia

11. Miami: Da’Ron Payne, DL, Alabama

12. Browns (projected trade with Denver, owner of Cincinnati’s pick): Marcus Davenport, EDGE, UTSA

This in terms of draft capital makes more sense to me

The reason this would happen is say Buffalo Jumps Denver... in a huge block buster, I think denver has to trade up then. or else they could lose out on all 4 qbs

Coming from the Panthers to Buffalo, seeing some of Cam Newton in Josh Allen makes sense. Will Gettleman trade down with his old colleague Beane in Buffalo as far down as 12? I say no. Could Denver trade with the Giants for a qb ? Possible but trading with Cleveland at 4 for Mayfield makes sense. Gettleman I expect will select Barkley unless the Browns go Barkley 1 and gamble for the third best qb at 4. Buffalo trades with Colts at six if one of the top four fall past Denver.

If Buffalo trades to 4, it could force Denvers hand to move to 2

If Cleveland go Darnold at 1, the Giants go Barkley at 2, the Jets go Allen/Rosen/Mayfield at 3. Cleveland swaps with Denver at 5, Denver will have a choice of two from Rosen/Mayfield/Allen at 4. Cleveland then may have a bidding war between Buffalo/Miami/Arizona for the last qb at 5.

I cant see Rosen taking the NFL hits and not breaking. I think he is the next Bradford.

he's the slowest and already plays behind Kolton Miller a LT who tested like a mid first rounder and C Quessenberry brother of a pro who also will get drafted.  Immobilie and fragile is a sh*tty combo for NFL 2018.

Who has a better career?  Josh Allen or JP Losman or EJ Manuel?
