Most Improved Team After Free Agency: Jets

According to Dan Graziano nfl insider. Take it with a grain of salt though since he also applauded the Colts' fleecing of the Jets to trade down to three as the best draft move so far, and the Jets either "overpaid" or "massively overpaid".

<quote>

Graziano: New York Jets. They landed the biggest prize on the free-agent cornerback market in Trumaine Johnson. They added Avery Williamson as a leader for the linebacker corps. They added Isaiah Crowell to their running back group. All upgrades. Now, to the matter of quarterback: Josh McCown isn't an improvement because he was already there. But the Jets' overall plan at the position is improved, as Teddy Bridgewater has more upside than anyone else the Jets had on last year's roster, and trading up to the No. 3 pick in the draft means they're likely to add someone else who does, as well.

Teddy Bridgewater won’t say if his knee injury will affect his offseason work

Jets quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has only $500,000 guaranteed on his new contract, which means if he doesn’t look good in offseason work, the team could easily release him and walk away. So it’s not a great sign that he won’t say whether he’s confident his bad knee will allow him to go through offseason work.

Asked today by New York reporters whether he’ll be able to participate in spring workouts, Bridgewater declined to answer.

“That’s something I’m not comfortable talking about right now,” Bridgewater said. “I’m pretty sure that’ll be a discussion that I have with the training staff. We’ll come up with a plan moving forward.”

Bridgewater suffered a severe injury in August of 2016 that forced him to miss all of that season, and he only appeared in one game in 2017. But he does say he’ll be ready to play when the season starts.

“I’m very confident,” Bridgewater said. “I’m confident in myself. I’m confident in the athletic training staff and the coaching staff here that they can eventually get me back to the player that I once was… But we’re only in March. The only way to get better is put the work in now. . . . I just can’t wait. I’m excited.”

But while Bridgewater says he can’t wait, his answers suggest that it might be a wait of several months before he’s participating in on-field drills.

I certainly agree with not pushing it with a hard offseason program if he's still not quite 100%, but didn't he take some snaps last year for the Vikings?  I can't remember if it was practice or garbage time in a game but I have a strong recollection that he's worked out and played some ball so why wouldn't he even be able to do offseason work this Spring?

QB - Better only becasue they have a guy they are not afraid to death  to play if mccown gets hurt.  Even then we really have no clue about Bridgewater.

OL - Slightly better, Wes Johnson was a horror show but Long is no pro bowler.  Other than that it is status Woe

Wr - Worse, due to anderson being a dumbass.

TE - Worse, even if ASJ wanted to much he played a fair bit last year.

CB - Big improvement if Johnson plays well and we have him and claiborne

PK - Probably about the same

ILB - A wash, Williamson may be good but Davis had a career year.

RB - May be a slight improvement of Crowell over forte, but crowell is no huge weapon and will not be much better than Powell if you ask me.

Better yes but still have some of the same gaping holes we have had for 3 years under this regime.

No Franchise QB,  No LT, No pass rusher.

We will draft the young franchise QB but Mac has to hit on some of these other picks.

Well that’s concerning. Way to put a damper on things. Although I don’t understand how he played in a game last season and now back to not being ready??

Once you're on the bottom, there's no where to go but up!

Pretty much.  One of the prerequisites for being in consideration for most improved is the need for a lot of improvement.  I'd agree that the Jets have gotten better over 2017 at this point.  Have they gotten better in a meaningful way that will lead towards sustained success and competition at the top of the league.  Not so sure about that.

I would not be surprised if they won 7 this year.  And 8 next year.  Backup QB does not get ont he field with most teams, so that is a shadow improvement.  And when your backup is probbly just as good as your starter, that is not an improvement.  That just means you might not regress in case of injury.  I love these post draft analyses.

I will not be surprised if we compete for a playoff spot.  I'm not saying make it but at least be in the race in the final weeks.  we won 5 last year but blew some games late or we easily could have won 7-8 games.  Bad teams lose games like that, most games in this league are close and good teams find ways to win and bad teams find ways to lose but part of the growing up of a young team is learning how to close games.  IF they can do that they can be in the playoff hunt.

It all sounds so nice but...does he know there is a team called the Browns?  By the time the draft is over, they will have 'won the offseason' and it won't be close.  Imagine adding (hypothetically) Darnold, Barkley and Landry to your offense in one offseason.  Then there are a whole slew more picks to work with.  Seriously, in that division they could easily have a winning record next season on the heels of 0-16.

Yeah, ok.

Apart from the CB (who should be a material upgrade), almost every move we've made is a side-grade at best.  Williamson, Crowell, McCown (again), the Skins Center, etc.

Teddy B. is an unknown.  Could be a massive hit (it's possible), could be another hurt guy on his way out of the league or into a future life of an NFL backup.  Too many Q's to judge that one as yet (lets hope for the best!)

I'm sorry, I just don't see that much improvement in these moves.  The entire offseason (to-date, still lots of time for future moves tbqh) will revolve around Teddy B and the #3 Draft Pick.

Apart from that, looks alot like we'll be fielding pretty much the same level of overall talent in 2018 that we did in 2017.
