The Jets have signed veteran WR-KR Andre Roberts.

In 16 games with Atlanta last season, Roberts averaged 22.6 yards on 38 kickoff returns and 7.4 yards on 27 punt returns. With Detroit in 2016, Roberts averaged 12.3 yards per punt return and had two return touchdowns.

A third-round pick of the Cardinals in the 2010 NFL Draft, Roberts appeared in 62 games while making 35 starts at receiver in the desert.  He had 182 receptions for Arizona from 2010-14, amassing 2,123 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. The 5’11”, 195-pound Roberts then signed as a free agent with Washington, posting 47 receptions in 2014-15 and averaging 7.4 yards per punt return and 25.4 yards per kickoff return.

Over eight NFL seasons, Roberts has averaged 8.1 yards per punt return and 23.4 yards per kickoff return. The Citadel product’s career offensive numbers include 244 receptions, 2,911 yards and 11 receiving scores.

Devin Smith,Jalin Marshall,Charone Peake,Chad Hansen all JAG's obviously not getting it done if they signed 2 WR's today.

Yeah, having more players on the roster in the offseason than they may actually need in over 5 months from now?  Oh, the horror!

Horrible Draft picks in the first place, yes including Hansen..

Nice signing. I’m sick of always having sh*tty field position. Have had this same problem since Leon Washington left...

another guy that grew as a player on our team by himself without help from the coaching staff, who outgrew his role and we decided to trash for no reason....

Just draft a guy in the 4th or 5th round that can do this.  Stupid signing unless he is a camp cut.

Why waste one of our few remaining picks this year on a return specialist?

I don’t see any issue with this. A good, proven return man for cheap.

After adding wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, the Jets have inked another pass catcher via free agency in former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver/kick returner Andre’ Roberts.

The speedy Roberts (4.46 40 time) hasn’t started more than four games since 2012 but will have a chance to earn a spot on the Jets roster due to his special teams play.  As a punt returner, Roberts has averaged 8.1 yards per return with a pair of touchdowns on 115 attempts while averaging another 23.4 yards on 124 career kick returns with one score.

Man we've been bad at KR and PR forever. What's Leon doing these days.

Brad Smith was also decent.

Jacksonville native and former Florida State running back/return man Leon Washington was announced Wednesday as one of five coaching interns for Jaguars training camp.

The Jets have limited draft picks... Drafting a guy to be your KR is risky, as I'm sure we've all noticed... I'm fine with finding an established one in FA over taking a chance on another one in the draft. There are other positions more worth taking a late round lottery ticket on.

Yes, especially since kick returns for touchdowns are non existent these days. Good point on filling this via free agency and not the draft.
