Is number 3 number 7 ?

I have not heard anyone talking about this ... but those old enough to remember ... can probably equate Josh Rosen to another Golden Arm ... that of Kenny O'brien.

O'brien had a beautiful release and control of the passing game ... his only problem ... he was a Statue. It caused him to get sacked and injured often.

For the record .. the OB era is when I became a fan of this team (mostly because of Toon).

Anyway ... am i the only guy worried about this possible similarity ?

-- Oh Yeah ... and id still take Rosen over Mayfield.

Well whomever the Jets pick won't have Wesley Walker and Al Toon to throw too but the point is well made. I remember when the Jets made the pick. I was at the Sheraton with a ton of guys and we were all a buzz because we all wanted Marino. When they announced Kenny it seemed like there was a collective gasp followed by a loud WHAT followed by a resounding NO or OH depending on where you were standing. I turned to my brother and said we will rue this day for years to come.

Not to hijack your thread or anything - but while browsing other teams message boards I found it funny how the Giants, and Browns fans also seem to generally hate the QB's projected to them in the draft. Lots of hate for all four QB's on both boards. Yet the Bills fans were so jealous that we could end up with one of the top three QB's (Darnold Allen and Rosen). I think the Jets are in great shape here with whoever the team decides to select out of the big three.

And it caused him to throw more pics. I'd compare Rosen more to Al Toon - I'm worried more about Rosen's brain getting scrambled after his next concussion.

of the top 5 QB prospects Rosen is the least athletic and so far has been the most injured.  He's taken some brutal hits (the Cal game for example). His doctors did not clear him to play in the Cactus Bowl. There is a real injury/mobility downside with this player.

Just because Rosen doesn't have great straight-line 40 speed doesn't mean he doesn't have great feet. Rosen isn't athletic? He was a world-class Tennis prodigy who had multiple sponsors...un-athletic people aren't world-class tennis players AND great QBs.

Powell, ward, Rasmussen, fields, Alexander?

O'Brien was drafted in 1983 and was a jet through 1992. 10 seasons.

Rasmussen retired in 1981,  ward was gone after 1983 and Powell after 1984. Fields was a jet from 1975 to 1987, and Alexander was with the Jets from 1977- 1989.

So out of the 50 seasons the 5 O lineman played in front of O'Brien during his jet career Fields and Alexander had 15.  And Alexander was jus ok. O'Brien played behind a bad O line most of his career. You can't rewrite that. It's history. It's pretty telling that you could only name guys drafted 5+ seasons before O'Brien was drafted.

But the oline and running game is so good he’ll be fine.

lol I crack myself up

Not sure if you can make that comparison, because I've rarely seen a QB at the NFL level who just had absolutely no feeling for where or how quickly the D's rush was to him, like Kenny O was.  Credit where it is due, one of the toughest QB's I've ever seen too, the beatings that guy would take were just incredible and he'd just about always bounce back and play.  I remember reading a Jet Injury Report and I've never seen the description used on any NFL player other than O'Brien for that week.....K. O'Brien - "battered body" (no joke, that's what it said).  The sad part is is that he might have even been able to beat Marino in a foot race but the 2 were night and day in the pocket from Marino being able to slide in the pocket and have a 6th sense to where the rush was, to Marino's carbon copy of Joe Namath's lightning fast release, Kenny O had a much slower delivery too, even though he had a cannon.  O'Brien could throw a ball 90 yards in the air.  O'Brien I think had a winning record going head to head against Marino, not easy to do, and some of those gunfights the 2 had were awesome, especially the 50+ point game that O'Brien won on the final drive.

For years I've actually missed O'Brien and even Richard Todd, yeah they made mistakes but you'd also get to see some beautiful passes, both of them could be called NFL QBs and they looked the part and both actually led some real exciting comebacks.....other than Vinny and his short run with Parcells you just can't say that about virtually ALL the garbage the Jets have put on the field at QB....that's how incredibly bad it has been.

Someone mentioned this kid plays high level tennis, so if the Jets do draft him here's to hoping he is nothing like O'Brien in the pocket.

I'm really worried about the Jet Oline though with a kid back there, it's the most important unit in the game, the winningest teams know that, but the Jets always think they know better and try to take shortcuts.

New York Jets: Trading Up to the No. 3 Pick in the Draft

24 OF 32

Seth Wenig/Associated Press

In order to move up three spots from the sixth pick, the New York Jets surrendered three second-round selections (two in 2018, one in 2019) to the Colts. That's a hell of a ransom considering they still have to pick behind the Browns and Giants.

A day before the Jets made that trade, Bills GM Brandon Beane told Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News that it was still too early to know whom he might favor among the top quarterbacks in the draft. It's hard to believe New York GM Mike Maccagnan is that much further along in the process, which suggests this move could have been hasty.

And even if the Jets are already in love, does that mean they've fallen for three separate players? That's even more far-fetched.

It's an odd move that could backfire considering the crapshoot-like nature of the draft.

He sounds bitter and regretful that he was outmaneuverd!   I'm loving that quote.

The main diff is O'Brien took sacks and returned to the huddle. Rosen takes sacks and returns in street clothes.

Could it backfire any more than taking more 2nd, 3rd or 4th round QB projects?  I give Macc credit for swinging for the fences.  I also guarantee this.....whoever we get at #3 would not have been available at #6.

GTFO.  He was far from "world class" which was probably why he was steered towards football.  He regressed as he approached high school and never played blue-chip competition.  He played a 3-star recruit once and lost -- this was his highest level of competition. He had zero chance of making the UCLA tennis team, let alone getting a scholarship.

Everybody spews this "great tennis player" crap and it is total exaggerated BS.  His sister, who plays Division 3 tennis, is more accomplished and still a far cry from being classified as world class.

FWIW, I am a USPTA high-performance coach and live in the area where he is from.
