Derrick Jones. Only because of his athletic prowess. And I love it when you take athletes late and try and develop them. Get a pass rusher Mac who's an athlete and can buzz the edge, don't care if he can set the edge early.

I like Rashard Robinson.  SEC CB . Love that he's 6' 1".

I'd like to see Roberts continue to improve. I thought he did pretty well when he saw action. But having derrick jones or clark step up would be huge.

Derrick Jones. Watched him live a lot at Ole Miss. talked to him a few times when I was visiting my friend(his former teammate) in Oxford. Super athletic and humble guy. If he get his technique down..he will be solid. I promise.

With Johnson and Clairborne on the outside, they only need a couple of these guys to show something.  Burris, Robinson, Coleman, Clark, and Jones are all interesting prospects... Brooks is a safety and Skrine has to set up or GTFO

i know many posters want skrine to do but of that list he's the small guy who really has a chance against the smaller slot receivers.

We have way too much length in the CB department. When it comes to playing off coverage these type all struggle to turn their hips. We're in no condition to follow through on this but a CB like Ward, OSU, would have been a good addition.

Damn, that looks more like a basketball team.  7 guys at 6' or taller.  And Burris is a tank at 6' 212 lbs.  

BTW, where is Claiborne?  He should be on this list too.  Of course he's "only" 5'11"

I'm really excited about our starting CB's. Having two physical former first rounders is gonna make life hard for opposing WR's and harder on a QB who can't really pick on either one.

Ideally Jones or Clark step up as a potential replacement for Claiborne going into next year. That happens we've got two tall CB's with reach to contend with.

He showed promise year 1 but really never took any steps forward after that. Got burned more than I expected post-rookie season.

Kacy Rodgers II is 6'2", 208 pounds, played at the U, and spent two seasons with Saskatchewan. I expect he will get every opportunity and hope the kid does well - we need a feel good story around here

 

On another note, Johnson and Claiborne paired with Maye and Adams could be the most complete backfield the Jets have had in many many years...  if anyone else steps up this defense has a chance to be special without a star studded line for a change

I have no idea how Buster Skrine is still on this team. Terrible player on a terrible contract. Also, did Robinson ever get any defensive snaps after they traded for him? This position has been butchered by Macc since he arrived. Hopefully Claiborne stays healthy and Johnson lives up to the contract.

Agreed. I was very high on him after his rookie year but he seems to have regressed.

Jets literally have no pass rushers. Can we for once draft an athlete to buzz the edge on situational downs. Not these try hard guys with no athleticism and short arms. How the hell was Donahue a 5th round pick.

Sadly this is true, in all the frenzty about needing a QB it’s gotten completely forgotten that for going on  20 years now we’ve had the most pedestrian OLB unit in football.....and it was the difference between winning this AFC championship games and unlit ately just falling short

Jones and Clark would be awesome if these 2 reached their ceilings, their size, length, athleticism sky’s the limit, but they are both raw so basement is the limit the other way.

NO ONE. The Jets corners suck except for those which they have signed through free agency. Justin Burriss is so bad he should have been cut long ago. Claiborne (when healthy) and Johnson (not sure he's worth 15 million per??) should really make the jets defense much better.

Signing Trumaine was HUGE, the dude is top 5 in the league & now Mo can move over to CB2, hell, Mo played very well as a #1 CB last year. With Adams & Maye coming in with a full 16 game experience you don't need these other guys do be all world, you just need them to do their job which will be very narrow roles in nickel & dime situations. 

I think it will be Jones & Robinson based on speed and hip movement. Burris & Clark are clunky, more useful in zone defenses to sit & knock the sh*t out of somebody, but if you need guys to follow & trail they better be able to change direction.

Former Michigan CB Jeremy Clark stands out despite ACL injury

INDIANAPOLIS – Jeremy Clark’s fear was real.

Late in Michigan’s third game last season against Penn State, Clark went down on a kickoff return and tore his anterior cruciate ligament.

The U-M senior was peaking at that time, having played well early in the season at cornerback, and suddenly his world was shattered.

“As soon as it happened I had that moment, I didn’t know what was going to go on,” Clark said Sunday at the NFL combine. “It was the fear of the unknown, real nerve wracking. You try to keep yourself together, but at the same time you don’t know where your future lies.”

His future looks brighter than that day, when his teammates surrounded him as he was carted off the field.

Clark was starting to get a foothold in the secondary at that time, but at 6 feet 3 and over 200 pounds with 4.43 40-yard dash speed, he had potential as a massive cornerback.

That physical profile was enough to earn him the surprise invitation to Indy, giving teams a chance to meet and survey him, even though Clark wouldn’t do the testing and drill work due to his recovery.

The recovery process was a challenge because while he began working to rejoin the Wolverines, hoping to fill a veteran corner role, he took a big hit when the NCAA denied him a sixth year of eligibility.

“I was real disappointed (before),” Clark said. “Nobody wants to leave the way I did, so when I got (the denial) I was kind of bummed out. But then I realized I can’t spend a lot of time on that. I’ve got to keep going.”

The combine invitation "let me know people are still interested,” he said. “I was trying to have a high spirit, but that really boosted my spirit.”

Clark's approach was to offer whatever he could in the team interviews and the bench press, his lone testing event.

Clark benched 225 pounds 20 times, one of the top numbers for any defensive back.

At 220 pounds (up 15 since his playing weight at U-M), Clark stands out among defensive backs.

“My size and stuff, I think I have a real advantage on everybody else,” Clark said. “Personally I like corner. Safety was good and everything but I feel I’m at my best at corner. I’m dominant there.”

He also got a chance to show off his knowledge.

Most of the 14 Michigan players here have enjoyed the challenge of getting on the white board and having teams question their football aptitude.

That was yet another area where Clark thrived.

During his injury, he could have avoided the defensive back meetings and focused on rehab, but he joined his teammates and continued to soak in cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich’s lessons.

So when the NFL teams alternated, some having him draw up cornerback plays and some at safety – his size makes that a natural fit there as well – Clark showed his versatility with the mind, even if he couldn’t in his body.

It has taken time to have the perspective and open mind about the two different positions.

The former Michigan coaching staff offered him only as a grayshirt (delayed scholarship at midseason) out of his Kentucky high school so he was determined to show his fit as a safety. Yet it threw him for a loop when Jim Harbaugh’s staff arrived and tried him at corner. Suddenly, for two years he and Channing Stribling were “going at each other’s necks basically” for the No. 2 corner spot.

Despite the disappointment of feeling discarded, his father asked him to believe it may work out.

The injury aside, learning at corner was a massive boost for Clark's appeal in Indy.

He understands being drafted is unlikely after not being able to workout at the combine and probably not at U-M’s March 24 pro day.

But being around the best, he was able to make an impression in Indy and teams showed him confidence, as he expects to be full-go in July, in time for a training camp invitation.

“Nowadays, the ACL is like a common thing,” he said. “They said there was a couple of cases where they drafted a guy in my shoes and by midseason he was rolling.”

Given where he was last September, that sounds like a dream come true.
