And saying "the #1 pick because I would trade down to get extra picks and still take (whoever) instead!" is not part of this equation.  Your choice is taking one of these QBs or having Pat Mahomes.

I guess the question is really "would Pat Mahomes be the #1 overall pick in this year's draft if he were available".

You didn't leave an option for NEITHER? That would be my choice. I don't have the faintest idea what Pat Mahomes will become a whole lot of speculation and nothing more from fans. And I don't want the number 1 pick this year. that makes us eligible to select Sam Darnold and quite honestly, I am not impressed.

For me, the two best QB's in this draft is between Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield.

If you'd rather have a QB other than Darnold (but not Mahomes) then your answer would be "the #1 overall pick".

neither the 1st round pick nor mahomes have done a thing in the nfl yet.

Well that's why I'm asking now.  I've seen people say "we should've drafted Mahomes"as if it's obvious he's going to be a star.  Probably some of that is because Deshaun Watson had such a great start to his career so people are giving Mahomes credit that he hasn't yet earned (e.g. "it's a great draft class!")

Well the poll is completely asked incorrectly, it should State would you rather Mahomes and the 6th overall pick, or the 1st overall pick and Adams.

Forced Davis Webb and Baker Mayfield out of Texas Tech

Forced Alex Smith to go to Washington.

the Alex Smith thing is age only, and the Texas Tech thing...yeah Texas Tech...not exactly a pro system. I wouldnt put him in the HOF just yet.

Nobody is putting him in the HOF - the OP stated do you want the overall 1st pick this year or Pat Mahomes.

If you consider Mahomes better than any of the QBs in the 2018 draft, then there's a case to be made.

nfl.com has the top 5 guys in this years draft graded above what they graded Mahomes last year. so the question comes down to, has mahomes done anything to show you that he is better then his draft grade....and the answer is no...not yet.

Mahomes, the 6th pick, and two seconds (plus next year's second). Hands down.

...and an entire extra year of your football-watching life. Don't forget about that.

Plus if the team hadn't shown the nation its team-building judgment was to take a safety (and then another safety) when it had no serious QB for the upcoming years, followed by McCown/Bridgewater and a possibility of a yet-unknown QB draft pick (then at #6), maybe we wouldn't have been turned down by premiere FAs who figured to still get paid at that $ level beyond the 2 guaranteed seasons, so they turned us down for better situations and what they felt were better run franchises. You can bet this judgment, on the part of a number of players, was in no small part due to the advice of their agents.

While it seems the Trumaine Johnson signing debunks that idea, it really doesn't when you examine the situation. Consider he is at best a 50/50 to stick around at $15m for >2 years no matter which team he signed with (contender or not), since he'll be 30.5 at the start of the y3 season. So unlike other premiere FAs with a longer future, he correctly calculated this will be his last major contract, and since it might only be 2 years before his value drops significantly, it was in his interest to simply sign with the highest bidder for the most guaranteed money. Plus (for a non-NFLer) he's still a very young man, single, and why not live in/near NYC and do training and practices in the Jets' resort-like Florham Park facility.

Other (younger) UFAs? Not so much. They went elsewhere, so you kinda have to add those players to the Mahomes/Watson side of the scale.

I can't vote in this poll. Last year at this point I was saying take Mahomes and even at 6. We didn't I am not going to play the live in the past game.

I am firmly on the get Rosen or Darnold bandwagon now.

I get KC think Mahomes is amazing.....but is there a reason the rest of the world should think that at THIS point?

He could certainly make a case for himself this year, he's certainly in a spot to do it now.

But as of now, he's just a guy with a very limited resume whose team thinks he's the future now.

He was not widely considered a prospect of the same class as Darnold/Rosen.

I don't think there is a real basis to decide which is "better", so I'll go with "I want to draft my own" and choose the #1 pick and (almost assuredly) Sam Darnold in this alt. world option.

With that said, I would pick Watson (2017 Pick) + #6 Overall + Both 2018 2nd Rounders + 2019 Second Rounder OVER Adams (2017 Pick) and Rosen/Mayfield (2018 Pick).

Yep.  Reminds me of the perfect QB rating Geno put up in week 17 while all the players involved had their bags packed, and were more concerned with the tee time on Monday.  :)

Id rather have #3 pick than Pat Mahomes.

This is what it is going to come down to, and if I am the Johnsons I would bet Mac's job on it.  Mac was completely on his own last year, and last year's draft was his making.

Assuming Watson was off the table (build, arm strength outside in NE, etc.), the scenarios are:

1)  Take Mahomes and cut either Petty or Hack.   He does not play in 2017.  The Jets are still 5-11.  They keep 6 and their three 2 round draft picks.   They take Maye anyway, and could have taken Eddie Jackson or John Johnson at S in the lower rounds, and/or Elfein or Kareem Hunt.

One scenario would have been to do the trade down, take Hunt instead of Stewart, and then take Eddie Jackson.   OR they don't trade down and take Elflein and Leggett.

If Mahomes looks like an NFL QB, this would probably much likely be the better route.

2)  Exactly what has happened to date, and then take a QB this year, whomever is left.

So, basically the combination of 2018 and Adams will need to be much better than Mahomes and whomever gets picked in the second round this year.

What they are doing now is all they can do, but last year was completely bungled, in my view.

The Chiefs have been an excellent drafting franchise the last few years.  Here they had Alex Smith coming off a career year, and they still opted to move forward with Mahomes.  That speaks volumes to me.

It's true that that doesn't mean he'll be successful, but then again, neither is there a guarantee that whoever gets picked 1-2-3 in this draft will be successful either.  Among the two unknowns,  I can see why someone would rather have Mahomes.

And I'd rather have Watson over anybody in this or last year's QB class.

nah no reason to try and upgrade over your boy McClown, It does not fit your mediocre at all costs strategy

huh?  mccown isn't my boy.  the question was having the fist pick in the draft or pat mahomes.  the point neither has done anything in an nfl game yet.  considering this years prospects, the first pick seems to be the better choice.
