Most polarizing draft I have seen in years (ever)

This isn't a thread about who you prefer or who you hate (plenty of those) but rather a simple question: will the Jets get it right or wrong in rd. 1?

He made the wrong call by only trading up to #3.  His only hope for salvation is if the Browns or giants do something dumb and either darnold or rosen fall to us.

If jets draft Mayfield there will be tons of stories and fans opposing the move. If Jets draft Rosen, in light of this whole "does he actually like footaball" lots of stories and fans complaining, if they draft Allen the same complaints about accuracy etc. The least complaints come from getting Darnold which seems like a remote possibility but with this crowd there still be rumblings.

The good news, we are drafting a QB. I think of this like an elections, I got a guy I want but will rally around the "winner" of the Jets draft sweepstakes.

What would you consider "getting it right"? Would a QB that is somewhat better than Sanchez, but not be lights out like an elite top 15 QB, be "getting it right?"

i think polarizing is one word to use, but truth, all of these qbs are good, and that's why their flaws are dissected so much - people keep looking for an obvious pecking order but there doesn't seem to be.  and this is before you consider guys like jackson and rudolph who will also get overdrafted.

Go out on a limb! I am basically forced by my mortal existence to vote yes. Because a whiff means regime change and another rebuild. I'll be pushing @SouthernJet to the stadium in a wheelchair if the Jets ever make it to SB. Or maybe my kid is pushing me in the wheelchair and I'm carrying SJ's brain in a jar. Sick of waiting for a franchise QB!

My worry is we can make the right call, and still fail. Even if we draft the "right" prospect, I have zero confidence in Bowles & co. developing them and putting the right pieces around them to be successful. That said, I also worry about Mac making the right call.

The odds of this regime getting it right, are not high IMO. Which is why it was asinine to keep Mac/Bowles and allow them to make this decision.

Impossible to say.  Macc's call is dictated by other factors right now.  He's not choosing the 1st QB, and he is not likely choosing the 2nd.  There's a pretty strong chance no QB that pays off is on the board when the Jets pick.

I'll say, yes. I hold out for the best. I also like and have confidence in Bates, who should be signing off and endorsing the pick.

I didn't take this as best QB in the class but that we will pick a Franchise QB and not a bust.  i.e. 2004 class.  You can argue who was the best of that class (IMO its Rivers) but it doesn't matter really if you landed one of the 3 QBs taken first in that draft.

BTW, given the history of QBs failing in the NFL, the odds are against Macc succeeding. So I said no based on odds only

Macc's track record to-date gives me absolutely no faith of any kind he will "make the right pick" sitting at #3, with likely the top 2 QB's already off the board.

He has a horrible record of QB-related decisions so far.  Not a truly great QB decision made by Macc thus far.

Compound Macc's failures to-date with the general difficulty and failure %'s of drafted NFL Qb's......no, I don;t think we're winning the lottery in 2018.

I think there are fewer complaints about Darnold because we don't think he will be there when we pick. If he's really an option you will hear - He's a USC QB - they all stink, can he handle the bright lights of NYC, his hands are too small to play in cold weather. That's a good start, no?

I think the top two picks either go Allen-Darnold, or Darnold-Barkley. At that point, it wouldn't surprise me if Mac took Mayfield over Rosen. Will that be the right pick? Ugh, I don't know. I like Mayfield a lot, but it would be hard for me to pass on the polished, prototypical Rosen. I expect this place to be pretty nuts two weeks from tonight.

I agree and think this is what's exciting , the Jets should get a quality QB prospect at #3 and that should make the fanbase happy.

Hopefully Bates is on board with whoever we pick.  That's basically the only way it's gonna work.

I got faith in my boy, Macaroni. We know this is the biggest draft ever, he knows this is the biggest draft ever and the world knows too.

 

He is prepared and has probably went through every single detail on these QB’s. If he messes up any round..I don’t expect it to be round 1.

I’ll be an optimist and say yes because we’re at 3. If we stayed at 6 then I’d be more conflicted. At 3, the only way I won’t be satisfied with the pick is if we end up with Allen. Rosen, Mayfield or Darnold are all picks that shouldn’t be doubted regardless of how they pan out.

I think he'll make the right call because he's drafting 3rd and won't really have any choice at all.

The choice between Mayfield and Allen is pretty clear and I think He'll get it right...pray.

I don't know that I agree about it being any more polarizing than any other draft...We'll need a poll for that.
