Why do some analysts refer to player visits as “top 30”. Has nothing to do with best players. Some of the visits are UDFA’s that the club needs a medical on. Visits vary from club to club ongow they are used

This Wednesday is the last day clubs can bring in players for a visit. Clubs can visit or workout prospects until the day before the draft

Most clubs will have their boards stacked by End of week. Then it’s developing a strategy to obtain targeted players. Fun time in meetings

Makes sense that it’s not that inspiring considering after the QBs the Jets are targeting guys with 3rd and later round grades.

Not necessarily.  Even without a 2nd round pick, we should still be looking at guys with R2 grades who could still be on the board at 72.

That said, with the benefit of looking at last year's list, I think I may have tried to read to much into the list.  Aside from the first two picks, none of our other draftees were in for a private visit.

True, it would be interesting to see just how many of the guys teams bring in for their top 30 are actually drafted by that team.

Which explains Greg Gabriel’s tweet that I posted. The 30 visits are just as much about 6/7th/UDFA guys as potential 1st rounders.

This is what you and I were discussing in the other thread. Not a lot of 3rd and 4th round types on that list.

The name I like seeing the most is Braden Smith.  If he is available in the 3rd round, he is the type of athletic guard that would be a solid pick to replace carpenter and help to start rebuilding the offensive line.

Via draftanalyst:

We’ve written about Jullian Taylor numerous times the past three weeks, and it appears the Temple senior is a lock to be drafted. Taylor was not graded by scouts entering the season and was not invited to the combine but now grades as a solid last-day pick.

Taylor has been a very busy man the past few weeks and will be busy through next week’s deadline for official visits. The sleeper lineman worked out for the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday and has official visits with the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans coming up this week.

As I posted on Twitter, Taylor worked out for the New York Jets on Friday along with UConn’s Folorunso Fatukasi. The workout took place at the Jets’ facility and was part of the local visits allowed by the league. Mike Maccagnan, Todd Bowles and additional top brass from the Jets organization made sure to be on hand to view the workout.

That's one of the few 3rd round edge prospects I'd be interested in.

I’m intrigued by his athleticism but I’ve read he’s not a great pass rusher at this point. If Kevin Greene thinks he turn him into a PR I’m good w/him.

I like Duke Ejifor and Sweat (if he drops that far). Marquis Haynes is intriguing.

Today is the final day for pre-draft visits. Notable ones: #Wyoming QB Josh Allen is at the #Giants; #OU QB Baker Mayfield is at #AZCardinals; #UGA LB Lorenzo Carter is at the #Jets; #WKU QB Mike White is at the #Titans; #LSU’s Arden Key, at the #Cowboys Tuesday, is at #Saints.

@Lith as our resident Bulldog scout, what's the scoop on Carter? Is he the answer to our edge rusher dreams?

Surprised he’s being brought in. I’ve been reading he’d go 2nd at the latest. I’ve read he’s a knockoff version of Leonard Floyd.

I like Carter -- but like Cmart says, I doubt he makes it to the 3rd round.  Probably more of a blitzing linebacker than a guy who is going to win one on one as a pass rusher, but he is a playmaker.  One of those guys who always seems to make the big play and he is not content with just the tackle, he is one of those guys who strips the ball as well.  Not great against the run, which is why I am not sure he goes in the first round, but if he is on the board at 72, Macc should sprint to the podium with his name on the card.

Via Tony Pauline:

Trenton Cannon/RB/Virginia State: Cannon’s film is like a weekend highlight reel, as he consistently breaks long runs and alters games with big kick returns. He’s dangerous in the open field and shows the ability to cut back against the grain and run to daylight. With a host of offensive coaches attending Richmond’s pro day to watch quarterback Kyle Lauletta work out, Cannon stole the show by timing 4.39 in the 40 and turning in a terrific workout. Cannon has had official visits with the New York Jets and Denver Broncos and has garnered lot of interest from the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. He could slide into the late rounds.

Vyncint Smith/WR/Limestone: Smith was a dominant small-school receiver whose ability to consistently win out for contested grabs really caught my eye on film the past two seasons. He comes with natural receiving skills and does the little things well. I questioned Smith’s speed, and he responded by timing 4.33 during South Carolina’s pro day, which he was invited to participate in. Smith must learn to play to that speed but has had official visits with the Houston Texans and New York Jets and was worked out by the Dallas Cowboys. He’s another who could hear his name called during the late rounds of the draft.

Matthew Gono/OL/Wesley: Gono was a prospect I liked coming into the season and someone I liked even more off the 2017 film. He’s well-built, explosive and nasty and works to annihilate opponents at the point of attack. He has an NFL build and growth potential. Gono, who made an official trip to visit the Minnesota Vikings  as well as the Chicago Bears and received visits from offensive line coaches from the New York Jetsand Detroit Lions to be worked out, is getting late-round buzz.

On the video of Maccagnan calling Sheppard, he talks about the visit the team had with Sheppard. This visit wasn't reported by any of the media outlets. I wonder what other player visits took place that the media didn't report?

I caught that too and went back to the above and didn't see him. Good question

I also remember seeing the Trenton Cannon report posted just above,  Did not see that on any prospect visit lists.  As a result, I had read up on him a bit before the draft and was not surprised at all by the pick.

maybe they were referring to the Combine interview they had with him.  He was one of the players on the Jets Combine interview list, IIRC.
