Who led the Jets in drive-extending receptions in 2017?

What is a clutch reception? Ten people could probably offer ten different definitions. I think most people would probably agree that a catch on third or fourth down resulting in a first down would be considered clutch. These aren’t the only critical receptions, but they extend drives on do or die plays.

Who led the Jets in this type of reception in 2017? I ran a search in Pro Football Reference’s Game Play Finder.

What is notable is no Jet ranked in the top 40 in the league. It speaks to the lack of top end receiving talent on the roster last year. If you are looking for an area of improvement for Robby Anderson, this might be it. Anderson went from functional role player in 2016 to quality starter in 2017. If he is going to take the next step and become a legitimate go to guy this year, he will need to produce more on critical downs. At his size, that means honing his route running skills to get reliably open more on short routes on these big plays.

Keenan Allen led the NFL with 31 such catches.

I mentioned this about Hansen in a thread a few weeks ago.  The thread was ripping Mac's picks and Hansen's production was mentioned.  I thought he had a good rookie year in that for some reason although he didnt have many catches, it seemed like they he had one important play per game in the second half of the season.  This stat definitely backs that up as he had 9 total catches, but 4 of them extended drives.

Players take time to develop, and I think Hansen has a shot to be a good contributor if he keeps improving.  Im looking forward to seeing how he plays in TC.

Pfff. Macc's pick have sucked on offense. Hansen is an OK developmental guy, but to burn 2/5 spots on him and Steward? Yuck.

I'd love to know how many of those 10 catches of Hansen's were 4th quarter garbage time drive catches against prevent defense.

This is a fairly meaningless list.  It is almost the same as the order the players were targeted.  Anderson is slightly down and Kerley slightly up.  Considering the structure of the offense and the 3rd down slot nature Kerley and Hansen played it is not surprising they were slightly high per target.  I wonder if they will pick a legit slot guy in the draft?  I might expect Enunwa to play there and do some damage - Gailey used him out of the slot plenty.
