First Round Falls in Our Lap

I can't shake this feeling that Darnold will drop to us the same way Leonard Williams and Jamal Adams did. Mac is going to have to pick from Darnold/Rosen/Mayfield - probably worst case scenario for Mac since that opens himself up to a lot more criticism. I just can't see Mayfield being selected before Rosen AND Darnold.

Darnold - Barkely seems most likely to go 1-2 to me ... & then Mac can pick Rosen / Mayfield

I agree, though I think the giants might go Chubb rather than Barkley, but I think it will be rosen or mayfield.

I'm just not buying Barkely to the Giants...The overwhelming smart move is to take the QB.  When all's said and done - IMO - The giants will take a QB.

Mayfield is hands down better then darnold.  Rosen is probably better then mayfield but I dont see him staying healthly or being a leader of a professional football team.

If all 3 are there, Mayfield is still the pick.

This would supplant missing on sapp and marino as the biggest draft blunders of all time for the Jets

I want to believe it too but I agree. Barkley to the Giants seems like the lock of the century which almost assuredly means its not. Giants fans are delusional for wanting Barkley over a QB, Manning is done.

You must really think Rosen is the goods because those guys are Hall of Famers and are in the conversation of the best ever at their respective positions.

if I am Gettleman, this is the conversation I am having with Mara/Tisch-

Guys-I would like to have this job a long time.  I think drafting Barkley in the first round and an OL/EDGE in the second can really make us competitive in 2018.  We have Davis Webb as a backup who looks decent.  We can look for another QB in the third round, if not more OL.  We do that, and maybe we make a nice playoff run this year.

But this Rosen guy looks pretty good, very similar to Eli.  If we draft him in the first and a RB in the second, we can improve in 2018 and fix our QB position for the next 10 years.   I am not sure whether the RB in the second round has as big an impact as Barkley.   We can move on from Eli in 2019 and save lots of money.

What do you want to do?

Exactly...

He's also seeing what all of these other teams are willing to give up (and what it will take to move up) to get a QB.  They have the chance now - otherwise in two years they're going to have to give up an entire draft to get back in the top 3.

QB's go 1, 2, 3 and 5.

How'd that work out?

my son asked me, what is your best case scenario?  and i couldn't answer it right away.  i think the real answer was, trading up.  b/c i'm not loving darnold, some days i think rosen is the best and mccagnan would be crazy not to take him, and other days i think mayfield is a brees clone.

truth, i'm predicting darnold/rosen to go 1/2 just like it was forecasted months ago by many.  i think the giants are throwing shade on barkley to get cleveland to take allen so the giants can sit darnold, he's easier to sit this year than rosen who is ready from day 1 and will be more outspoken about it.  but the giants owners met with rosen and they remember when eli sat for half a year and learned from kurt warner and i think they do the same with rosen.

me too and i think this is where the draft turns.  and i think darnold goes first.

I am firmly on this bandwagon. I think it has always really been a 2 QB draft...Darnold and Rosen. Sure Mayfield, Allen and Jackson all bring a lot to the table but not like the SoCal guys.

As far as the Giants go Barkley and Chubb are both great players but they ain't QB's. And QB's  are what it is all about.

Its almost as if Josh Rosen was tailor made for the Giants. I wish I'm proven wrong but he goes at 2.

I feel that Baker Mayfield will ultimately be our selection. Living here in central Texas for 20+ years I am well familiar with Baker. He is from Lake Travis down the road in Austin. Say what you want about him one thing for sure he is a winner. He is fearless and will turn into a "Adams" like presence on the offensive side of the ball. It will be Jets or die with this kid.

i hate to admit this, but mccagnan played this well.  there was never a reason to trade to #1 b/c teams have different opinions on who the top qbs are anyway.  i agree that rosen is perfect for the giants, the way mayfield is for the jets.  the jets are the classic underdog team and mayfield fits that bill perfectly.

i think it will be very interesting to see who the giants take if the browns take allen b/c i could easily see them taking rosen anyway.

I sure as hell hope so

And If Macc ends up landing Darnold without sacrificing a single future 1st round pick...I’ll personally go down to his office at Florham Park, get on my knees and blow him silly.

What you choose to do behind closed doors with a consenting adult is okay with me but I'm not sure I need to hear about it.  But since you brought it up, FWIW, I'm willing to bet that it tastes like Dunkin' Donuts coffee.

The consensus by the talking heads of football this morning is that the Browns have soured on Darnold since he wasn't great on the board during his meeting. The word is (for what it's worth) is that it's between Allen and Mayfield now. FWIW, Darnold is the youngest of the QBs.

Per Simms (doesn't mean it's true): "What has this offseason been about for the Giants? Eliminating as much of the crap/drama from last season as possible..Picking a QB #2 w/Eli will be drama"

Darnold dropping to the Jets would be a dream scenario, but I just don't see how it can happen.  If the Browns take Allen or Mayfield, there will be multiple teams falling all over themselves to trade into the #2 pick to draft him if the Giants don't scoop him up themselves.  I just think that there are too many QB needy teams this year that will be willing to make an offer the Giants can't refuse to get what most "experts" think is the #1 QB on the board.  I hope I'm wrong.

I actually think Darnold will fall to us. The interesting thing is that Cleveland may very well take Mayfield. Lot of rumors about that know. Palontonio just hinted that the Jets are 100% focused on Mayfield and worried that Cleveland takes him which is the one scenario where the Jets get their third pick if Darnold goes 2. Seems Rosen might be a distant 3rd which, if true, makes the trade really risky.

No I think that it will be like picking kyle brady instead of dan marino.  It won;t nbe like oops we just missed on favre, we will be staring at the better QBs in the draft and mayfiled is going to fail (in my opinion of course)

If Giants go Chubb, Jets better call the Browns n say they have a very lucrative offer for Barkley but prefer not to drop that low n hope they don’t call the bluff.

Jets are taking a QB at 3...they'll be no trades or even attempts at it.  They will have 3 names on a board - the top one left after the first two picks will be handed in - without discussion.

Sorry, I just don't see a scenario in which the Jets would or could risk a trade.

Agreed we might be able to squeeze a pick out of them.  No harm in trying, would be good due diligence.

Jets would have needed to jump Denver anyhow IMO. Buffalo could have traded up for a QB

ahead of the Jets. After Manziel, no way in hell Browns take Mayfield! They go Darnold/Allen

Jets better stay put get their QB and worry about gaining back draft picks at some other point in this or next years draft. Until you have your Franchise QB do you even consider dicking around with picks!!
