cognitive dissonance

Now that the big night is FINALLY here, the consensus estimate seems  Baker Mayfield will be selected #1.

And although I've been reluctant to want us to select him because of:

A- I'm not talent evaluator, I honestly don't know what to look for, and

B- the guy didn't play in a pro style system so his learning curve will be just that much higher than that of Rosen or Darnold.

Regardless, I think part of me will be dissapointed that he won't be our guy.

Am I alone feeling this way?

I think I will feel a bit shattered if Rosen and Mayfield are gone before we pick. I know that means darnold who all the experts say is the best falls to us and I would be ok with him too mostly but part of me is terrified that we land a USC qb after Sanchez, yes I know darnold is a better prospect but still

I will be disappointed if Mayfield goes to any other team but the Jets but I will be okay with any other guy except Allen. I just don't think He will be able to get the job done in NY. If Darnold is available at 2 I bet the Giants will have their pick of trades to make if they so desire. It's going to be a wild night if Mayfield truly goes #1.

No.

I like his enthusiasm and desire and chip on shoulder myself.

Honestly, I liked Mayfield, but he is nothing special. He isn't Andrew Luck type of talent. Could he end up being a stud, sure. So could Allen/Rosen/Darnold. If I had to choose a QB, Mayfield would be 4th on my list of guys so this is a win.

Just like you can count on one hand how many kids with 55pct Comp Pcts have succeeded in the NFL (Stafford/Farve/Ryan), there aren't many QBs of his stature to succeed in the NFL.

I am very happy sitting at 3 knowing any one of the guys left could easily turn into a stud.

Mayfield is also the oldest and most experienced so maybe the other prospects have time to grow.

Again, every time I hear that tonight, I'm going to remind folks that this exact line was THE defense of Hackenberg the past three years.

Some guys never "grow".  Keep it in mind.  Or not.  Because THIS one (regardless who this one is) is ALWAYS "different", lol.

This is worst case scenario for me hands down.

I mean no matter who we take we are going into next season with a blue chip qb prospect which we have not done in a long time. I am 100 percent behind Rosen and 90 percent behind Mayfield I would be behind the darnold pick just with caution. Allen I don't want anything to do with

i'm definitely 18% deflated. I was really sold on going all in on Baker with his attitude in Green and White... but going back to Josh Rosen now. I definitely like Rosen over Darnold... and but sounds like i'm going to be 2x disappointed.

Maybe the bills helped us with Josh Allen by releasing his tweets

Hopefully. I am sure the locker will love him, a QB with racist tweets, inaccuracy issues, Ny media, and not being able to step on the field day one, as per the experts. I wouldn't touch him.

I think Mac understands how important this pick is to his career I think he goes with the safest pick possible I would expect his order goes darnold Rosen Mayfield tonight

Investing in a player before you draft him is folly my friend.

Same thing they say about EVERY USC bust QB who doesn't know how to hold onto the ball because "Young!! Just need a little more experience!!!" GTFO
