Freemanm
Or should they let him play behind McClown for the first few games?
jetscrazey
Play behind McFrown and learn from Bates. Make it a redshirt year. He only got 1.5 years of game action in college. Give him football smarts to go with that natural playmaking ability and it can be a dangerous thing. In 2019 let him get experience. By 2020 the Pats will be done and it'll be game on until 2032. Maccagnan continues to play the long game well.
slimjasi
I've always felt that people make this question way more complicated than it needs to be. It's very simple: You have an fair, open, and honest competition. If Darnold wins the job, he wins the job (e.g. Russell Wilson). If McCown and/or Bridgewater win the job, they win the job. Simple. Obvious. Always the right thing to do. Always.
SMC
Darnold is sitting this year

Let McCown play this season. Let Darnold get his feet wet toward the end of the year.

JoJoTownsell1
Mccown will start the season but I'm confident he will force his way into starting lineup with 6 weeks.
Lupz27
Maybe, IF Darnold shows enough to win the job then he starts period not that difficult.
ASH1962
Gave up 3 2's, to move up to pick 3 to get him, if he performs in camp and PS, he plays.

prime21
I wonder if Bowles doesn't play McCown much in preseason like he did last year and Darnold looks really good.
joewilly12
Josh McCown is an NFL loser QB nice guy, great teammate but what could he possibly teach Sam Darnold.

kthisguy
I’d think he starts week 6 earliest (however week 7 is Vikings D). Or week 10 you’d have to think that the Jets want his first start at home. Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app
