Thank You NY Giants

The Jets have pretty much always been the little brother in the NYC market to the Giants.

Now, the Giants had the second overall pick. They have a chance to select their franchise QB of the future. So what do they do?

They say, “No thank you. Little brother, you take him”.

I realize this is really not worthy of a thread, but I want to express my gratitude to the Giants anyway.

But, I will also add, that in a year or two, when the Giants  are trying to figure out a way to trade into the top 3 to select a  franchise QB, I won’t feel bad for you at all.

The GMEN are in a great spot.  They landed the #1 OL in FA, they have a beast in OBJ, and their TE is a gamer. Sheppard grew a ton last year as WR as well. Add SAY SAY at RB and Eli at QB and they good.  It wasnt a gift to the Jets, it was doing what was right by them. Both of my brothers are Gints fans so they are good and hopefully so are we.  we got sam FFS!!!

I dont appreciate this thread in the least because of the hidden implication that the Jets are in fact the little brother to those pricks.

It wasn’t very hidden. ? And, I don’t like it either.

Just my view after having lived in the area for a great deal of my 57 years, and  observing the local media coverage.

Barkley was a smart pick for them IMO, I understand not taking a QB there if they feel Eli still has some year in him. Gettleman said something about the #2 overall being a HOF worthy pick. After hearing that I didn't think they'd go QB and have a guy sit for 3 years.  What I am a little surprised about was them not trading out of that spot. I guess they knew who they wanted or they just didn't get enough of an offer. Either way, it's all good.

The giants got a very good, not great left tackle, and also lost their starting center and guard. Two very good players.

I watched Eli last year, he is not the same QB. The defense wasn't that great and they lost JPP.

Barkley is great but so is fournette and he was stunted but a weak offensive line in Jacksonville.

Giants made a win now move with a mediocre team in a division with the eagles who may be the best team in football, the cowboys who will have Zeke for the whole year and the skins who will be average with Alex Smith. That's a recipe for an 8-8 season.

I love Barkley, but the move was to take a QB. Whether that was Darnold, Rosen or Allen.

I predict Barkley will not lead all rookies in rushing.

Giants passed on a succession plan in favor of a luxury pick. Maybe they think they aren't far off a Superbowl run. Time will tell. Whatever happens, Eli isnt getting any younger and they'll have to plan for a future without him. This pick could be one they eventually regret, especially if either Darnold or Rosen meet expectations.

I'm happy as a Jets fan, we got the steal of the first round and i know our future is safer than theirs at the present moment.

Giants actually think they are good enough to seriously compete with Eli next 2 yrs lol.. I am too. Very glad.. because after hearing what fragile Rosen said “ glad he dodged jets “ there was no way were taking Rosen. Mac knew his attitude. Why we kept hearing mayfield or darnold. I honestly think Barkley was #3 on their list. Not Rosen and defiantly not j Allen

Has anyone ever learned anything watching pro football? Barry Sanders was a great RB, Lions still sucked. Adrian Peterson, great RB, what have the Vikings won?

The Giants defense BLOWS. Eli is 37 and unlike Brady, you can see his play diminishing. Solders best years are behind him, he's had past back issues that don't get better with age, they lost their Center & a guard in free agency. They play in a division with 2 young QBs, the best team in football & how much less of a player is Zeke Elliott than Sequan Barkley?

Giants fans are going to hate this draft 3 years from now.

If the Jets did that, they would rightfully be getting killed. It’s damn hard to get a QB. They lucked into prime position to get the best one, in what’s considered a great QB draft, and they passed for a RB. If I were a Giants fan, I’d be going Shane and Dbatesman on Giants boards right now.

But im a Jets fan, and we got Darnold!!! Boom!!!

The Giants will make the push for Fromm in 2019 or 2020

Thank the Browns, them not drafting Darnold created a pretty crazy situation overall for the draft. Darnold was pissed that the Browns passed on him, guy even showed up with a brown tie expecting to be the #1 overall pick. Rosen was also pissed that he fell that low, really think he was expecting us to draft him. Crazy how it all played out though. Sucks for Browns fans, drafting a midget from an air raid offense #1 overall is probably the worst thing you could do.

The giants made the move they should have made. They don't have Eli for much longer he has won them two super bowls give him the tools for another run and a new weapon potentially for the next guy

Totally agree. I had Barkley going to the Giants right from the get go. Another weapon for Eli.

Best case is Barkley is like another PSU back, Larry Johnson. Which means like most running backs he has 5-7 good seasons at best. Eli Manning has been a  very durable QB, but he is clearly on the downside. And there are a lot of NFL games where running the ball is an afterthought. Barkley is going to be very good, but all those highlights of him blowing past Big 10 guys are not the NFL, where the defenders are almost as fast as him and bigger and stronger. Think you are wrong about Solder, but that's a minor quibble. Gettleman has a very odd old perspective that running the ball matters, and if you look at who has won championships for a while, it's not that important. What he did last night was really bordering on insane; the Jints are going to be a middling 7-9 win team and won't be near the top of the draft to take a primo QB for a few years.
