He’s way more evasive and mobile than Big Ben if you ask me.

I’d say Aaron Rodgers-ish.

I have written many times that the guy he reminds me of the most is Big Ben.

I think his ceiling is basically a slightly shorter, but way more athletic and mobile Big Ben. Who would be a scary f*cking player.

i don't see it. rodgers coming out played a different playing style, different, more efficient  throwing motion, footwork. different kind of mobility, body structure. many/all of these things he has a similarity w Big Ben when both coming out of college

i'll take either tbh, 20 years our own Big Ben

Our own Big Ben? How about our own Darnold?

Indeed, he very much reminds me of Big Ben.  Especially the quality of the throws and the willingness to leave the pocket and make things happen.  He won't break as many tackles as big Ben, and time will tell if he learns to understand the game as well, but yea if we get even 90% of what that hall of famer gave Pitt, it would be worth it.

Agree. Although he's considerably faster and more athletic than Big Ben and should make a lot more people miss

Ben ran a 4.75 40 and Darnold ran a 4.85. I think this is a pretty ridiculous comparison.

This isn't a knock on Darnold but he's nowhere near the athlete Ben is. In Ben's first few seasons that was by far his most impressive feature - He could extend plays better than anyone. Darnold will be able to move around but he's not gonna be riding tackles from DT's too often.

He's more of an Andrew Luck or Matt Ryan type. Will be mobile and will use it effectively but it wont be the feature of his game.

How much have you actually watched Darnold? He's fantastic at extending plays. It's arguably his best feature and his tenacity in that regard reminds me a lot of Big Ben.

I have seen Darnold. I'm not underestimating him. Ben is or was simply the best I have ever seen at extending plays. Even better athletes like Wilson and Vick couldn't do it nearly as effectively. There's a difference between being able to extend plays at college level and consistently shaking off NFL defensive linemen. Ben has played behind offensive lines that would end most QB's career in a season. Most of Darnold's extended plays actually come from movement rather than shaking off clean hits. If Darnold can do anything like what Ben did in his early days I'll be stunned - They're different stylistically.

I agree, Ben is as good as anyone I've ever seen at extending plays in the pros. But I honestly feel the exact same way about Darnold in college. (Like most people, I never really got to see Ben in college because of where he went to school)

I agree that they are different stylistically. I think Darnold plays with more agility and quickness. I think Ben is stronger and harder to tackle. Both slip and slide in and around the pocket while keeping their eyes downfield, giving their receivers more time than 95% of other quarterbacks. Darnold also throws extremely well on the run.

How about that jump throw he's shown now & then? A little Fran Tarkingtonish, but it a big body. I still can't believe he's only 20 years old! Jeremy Bates must be beside himself to be able to be the guru to guide this young mans career.

I was just stunned listening to David Shaw gushing about Darnold & putting him in Andrew Lucks category! Coming from a guy that has witnessed Darnold up close & personal I felt like I'd died & gone to heaven. Macc has been so f*cking lucky in these 1st rounds, sans Lee, as it was mid round & doesn't seem that was a great draft anyway.

Passing on Watson totally worked out because of Darnold, so we got a leader and student of the game in Adams, Williams fell in Maccs lap, I love dumping DD for a younger Williamson at LB, if we can get anyone (Mauldin, Donahue ect.) to edge rush, this defense is gonna be sneaky good with Trumaine & Morris at the CBs, Adams & Maye at safeties. I think the Jets are going to be top 10 in creating TOs next year.
