Giants and Jets GM's collaborated and had a draft plan.

Hear me out. The Giants wanted to make sure they got the player they wanted - Cleveland in the way. The Jets wanted a certain QB - Cleveland and Giants in the way. So Maccagnan calls Gettleman and says who u picking old man? Gettleman say F U I ain't telling. That's when Maccagnan says c'mon Dave let's help each other. Ok.  Cleveland wants Barkley and Mayfield or Darnold they determine. If Cleveland thinks they can get them both they will go that route. Cleveland knows that if they pick Darnold 1st then Barkley will be gone at 2. Cleveland also knows if they pick Barkley 1 then Darnold will be gone by 4. But what the Jets and Giants did here is pump up Mayfield to the Jets in order to make Cleveland believe that if they pick Barkley 1 then Darnold to Giants at 2 and Mayfield to Jets at 3 was highly possible so then Cleveland doesn't get their choice of QB at 4. For the Giants and Jets to both get the players they covet Cleveland had to go QB at 1 and not pick Darnold. So what they made Cleveland believe is that if they pick Mayfield at 1 the Giants would go Darnold at 2 leaving the Jets with Rosen or Allen at 3 for the Jets. Cleveland knew the Jets wouldn't go Barkley at 3 cause they need a franchise QB badly. I think the GMs convinced Cleveland that the Giants couldn't pass up Darnold at 2!  So Cleveland thinking was if we go Mayfield at 1 Giants go Darnold Jets go Rosen and we get Barkley at 4. But the Giants screwed Cleveland and helped the Jets by grabbing Barkley at 2 leaving Cleveland screwed at 4. Understand my logic ?  I'm not sure that I do but the Jets pumping up Mayfield got Cleveland to become interested and got Cleveland thinking they could get Mayfield and Barkley. This couldn't of worked if the Jets thought the Giants might pick Darnold at 2. They Jets knew the Giants wanted Barkley at 2.  Whatever the plan was it worked!

LOL

Way over thinking this bro.  Jets couldn't even get Gentleman to answer his phone when they were trying to trade up on St Paddy's day

Guys the NFL is one of the biggest businesses in the world. Do you not think that they have experts and computers playing out all these scenarios? This is big money and big futures here. You better believe they do. The experts and computer ran all the scenarios and came up with a plan for the Jets to get Darnold from the 3 spot and it worked. Simple as that but the logic behind it all was a little more complicated.

I already think that the Jets FO spooked the Browns into taking Baker at 1. I never believed in the love affair with Baker to begin with. Would we have drafted Baker if Darnold was off the board? Possibly, but GMs always use these tactics to try and get what they want.

The Giants piece is plausible too because during this draft process all you heard was how the only QB the Giants liked in the draft is Darnold and if the browns didnt take him there's no way he was slipping past the GMen...

The Giants and Jets fought over the # of porta-potties in the parking lot. To suggest that they are collaborating on draft boards is a bit much.

Pretty sure the two organizations can't even dial each other. #blocked

Reports are the Broncos tried like hell to trade to 2 when Mayfield went first and the giants put a huge price tag on it.

I think the giants always wanted Barkley and figured the Browns were always taking a QB

which team won the porta-potty debate?  That's  really funny!

This is from a Wall Street Journal article years ago:

Quote

In 2002, after New Jersey's sports authority spent thousands upgrading the Giants offices at the stadium, Mr. Johnson demanded the agency spend an equal amount upgrading the Jets locker room. The next year, the Jets asked if they could keep a massive green banner hanging on the side of the stadium between back-to-back home games. The Giants declined.

When the Giants demanded access to the high-end portable toilets the Jets had brought in for tailgaters, the Jets demanded they help cover the costs. The Giants responded, as the leaseholder, by ordering the Jets to remove the toilets immediately. Ultimately, state officials had to intervene.

Even when they're pursuing the same goal, the teams sometimes find ways to trip over each other. In 2008, as the teams looked for ways to fund the new stadium, Jets officials say they seized on the concept of selling personal seat licenses, which would require fans to pay between $1,000 and $27,500 for the right to buy season tickets in coveted locations. For months, the Giants resisted the idea before telling the Jets they were on board. In June 2008, however, the Giants scheduled a conference call without telling the Jets. During the call, Mr. Mara announced that the team would sell the licenses—but added that the Giants regretted the move and were even remorseful about the effect it might have on their fans.

The call left the Jets steaming. Team officials say the team had planned a marketing campaign spinning the sale as a positive thing: an opportunity for their fans to join an exclusive club and own an asset that could appreciate over time.

"All 32 teams in the league have different approaches," Mr. Mara said of the disagreement. "Some of our business elements are different from the Jets. They have a different way of doing some things."

Mr. Johnson said apologizing for the licenses was a bad idea—especially because the teams had to invest so much of their own money. Licenses, he says, are "an opportunity" for fans in an era where public stadium financing is hard to come by.

The new stadium's overall look represents a win for the Jets. The Giants had pushed for a traditional brick structure with luxury suites stacked on one side that would cost about $800 million. Mr. Johnson's design team preferred a sleek, modern $1 billion structure with luxury boxes circling the stadium and exclusive restaurants and clubs on every side.

What were the Broncos trading up for, Darnold?

Bingo. It's in their best interest to help each other. They talked. It worked out.

As you know, I recently traveled to the future.  While there I learned that Gettleman and Maccagnan did not work together on the 2018 draft strategy.

Sorry.

That’s because the super computers dial the numbers for them.

You also said that we drafted Barkley, were you a Giants fan in the future? :)

it would be great if the two teams worked together but I think the old AFL/NFL still lingers in the Mara family

While it’s absurd to think the jets and giants collaborated, they unintentionally helped each other.

the browns probably decided a while ago they wanted mayfield.  There is a reasonable possibility they thought they could get barkley at 1 and mayfield at 4.  Then the jets trade up and the strong rumors they want mayfield forced the browns to make a choice, b/c based on the rumors, they can’t have barkley and mayfield unless they trade up to 2 with the giants.

so the browns made a choice, took their qb and helped the jets, giants and broncos in the process.

Some scheme you wrote up maybe clevland said if they take Mayfield first the giants will take darnold and we sure as heck weren't taking a rb at 3 which would have put Barkley in their laps
