Are Patriots ‘Vulnerable’ In AFC East? Jets’ Quincy Enunwa Believes So

New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa can’t help but wonder whether the New England Patriots’ best days are behind them.

Enunwa turned a few heads Friday on CBS Sports Radio’s “Tiki and Tierney” when he suggested the Jets could take down the Patriots in the AFC East as soon as this season.

“I think they’re vulnerable,” he said. ” … Not only are they vulnerable, I think we’re capable this year.”

This obviously is a bold proclamation. The Patriots have won nine straight division titles. They’ve ruled the AFC East in 15 of the last 17 seasons. The Jets, meanwhile, haven’t made the playoffs since 2010 and are coming off back-to-back last-place finishes in which they’ve gone a combined 10-22.

Yet Enunwa remains optimistic. His response Friday perhaps was due in large to him going with the flow of questioning, but he doubled down to some extent Saturday while appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“Obviously, I just wanted to agree,” Enunwa said, per Sporting News. “I think they may be (vulnerable). But I also think that we’re capable of finally dethroning them. I think that we’ve always been. It’s just about getting over that hump of finishing games.

“Not to add more bulletin board material for them, but I think for us, we’re hyper-confident and believe that we can do that.”

Enunwa, 25, missed all of last season after undergoing neck surgery. He totaled 58 receptions for 857 yards with four touchdowns during the 2016 season.

Jets fire an opening shot at ‘vulnerable’ Patriots

April 30, 2018 | 12:42pm

The Jets haven’t made the Super Bowl since Lyndon Johnson’s final days in office and have one winning season in the past seven years.

But Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa thinks they can take down the NFL’s greatest dynasty.

Though the Jets are coming off back-to-back 5-11 seasons, Enunwa said he believes they are “capable” of preventing the preventing the Patriots from winning another AFC East championship, describing the team that has won an NFL-record nine straight division titles and reached three of the past four Super Bowls as “vulnerable,” during Friday’s appearance on CBS Sports Radio’s “Tiki and Tierney” show.

The next day, on Sirius XM NFL radio, Enunwa slightly hedged his comments — “Obviously, I just wanted to agree [with the hosts]” — before circling back to what he truly believes.

“I think they may be [vulnerable], but I also think that we’re capable of finally dethroning them,” Enunwa said Saturday. “I think that we’ve always been. It’s just about getting over that hump of finishing games. Not to add more bulletin-board material for them, but I think for us, we’re hyper-confident and believe that we can do that.”

While the Patriots have won the AFC East in all but two seasons since Tom Brady became the starting quarterback in 2001, the Jets most recently won the division in 2002, marking one of their only two first-place finishes since 1970. The Patriots have won 12 of their past 14 games against the Jets, including four straight, with Todd Bowles winning just one of six games against Bill Belichick.

And while New England will return with the greatest quarterback of all time, the Jets aren’t certain who will be starting under center next season.

It could easily be veteran Josh McCown, or even Teddy Bridgewater, but Enunwa already has begun thinking about when he’ll line up alongside third-overall pick Sam Darnold.

"Vulnerable."   To what exactly?

Losing a single game in the division?

Going 12-4 instead of 14-2?

Having to play the AFCCG on the road instead game of hosting it for the umpteenth time in the last 17 years?

"Vulnerable"...   pffff.....

STFU.  Just STFU....

Patriots will probably not be vulnerable until Nrady is gone. It’s that simple.

And, once Brady is gone, they REALLY will be vulnerable.

Sorry PK, couldn’t resist. ?

There's  nothing more vulnerable in the AFC East then this dudes neck. Would had favored him shutting his trap and just going out there and proven he's back to form.

To be 100000% fair..they guy didn’t just spew this out for no reason.

The man was clearly asked a question.

The Jets are winning the AFC East this season. Our time is now.

The division blows. Look at the players who have left the Fins & Bills recently.

Jets definitely should have the best defense in the division & get to play AJ Maccarron & Tannyhill twice. Plus, though they don't have any super stars the WRs as a whole are also better than any team in the division with Kearse- Anderson- Pryor- Enunwa- Hansen.
