Bridgewater throwing and proclaimed healthy by Mac

A healthy Bridgewater is the dream scenario for the team.  Darnold doesn't have to rush and

more importantly Bridgewater becomes an attractive trade chip

If Bridgewater is healthy and plays like he did and Darnold is as good as we hope he’ll be this could be interesting. Not sure what Bridgewater’s contract is but it would be nice to be able to trade him for a high pick.

So MacDouchebag can draft more DL

I thought he was only signed for 1 year?  You think he would have that kind of value after the preseason starts?

Macc would rather see bridgewater playing that mccown also. Teddy has trade value if he is healthy and playing like the old teddy maybe recover our 2019 second round pick value

Pretty much this. We need Bridgewater to look great in camp so we can trade him.

But what if Hack wins the job? (Just kidding.)

I know you were kidding, but a real consideration if Bridgewater is healthy is if hack or petty should even get first or second team reps, work them with the scout team to see who might survive as insurance against injury or a trade

I think Teddy would have trade value up to the trade deadline (if healthy) and could even generate a comp pick next year = also would like to see him play

In the same interview, Macc also said that Teddy was out there throwing, and so where Petty and Hack.   Maybe he is trying to drum up interest in trading any of these guys (at least 2 of them) because it would be a disservice to Darnold's development to have a QB room with 5 people ( in terms of splitting any sort of reps and in terms of feeling like the odd guy out).

I would much rather have Bridgewater starting over McCown. I know if he stays healthy it means less chance of seeing Darnold in there, but still would rather it.

He is strictly trade bait in case he proves healthy.

Thank you for this post.

I kept hearing that Bridgewater was done; so this is such good news!!

Anything and anybody to give Darnold a real chance to grow and develop is what I am after so this is good news for me. :)

I’ll be genuinely surprised if Teddy makes the team now that we have Darnold.

You have McCown to mentor and start until he hands it off to Sam. Teddy will NEVER be our future now. Why pay him $5 million this year. What can he do that we don’t have, mentor and franchise draftee.

I don’t think anyone’s trading much for Teddy.  Cut him lose before the checks due. Cut your losses at the $500k bonus he got.

Back ups make more than 5mm now.

Because if he is healthy and gets some run in games this year, you'll get a 3rd round comp pick for him when he signs somewhere else as a free agent, which would be a terrific use of 5M

That said, I heard this interview, and I don't think it was anywhere near as black and white as Cimini's tweet makes it sound.  Mac said Teddy was throwing and that he's been involved in their phase 2 workouts and is progressing nicely.  It takes a lot to read that as "healthy" as in "capable of playing an NFL game if the game was this week"

We aren’t paying him 5 million, we’re paying him 500k.

I like TB. If this guy is getting cleared to play one of the most violent games in sports I have to think that his knee is good to go. (maybe I’m naive) With that said Terry was on the precipice of bringing his game to the next level. I personally wouldn’t want him to be used as trade bait. Petty is gone. Hack may be gone. McCown will be gone next year. QBs get injured in this game. It’s not a matter of if but when. It’s a good strategy to have a quality back up that will keep you in the running or keep you winning. Look what the Eagles did with their back up last year. I say keep him.

Hack's presence alone shows that Mac still hasn't grown as a GM.

Eh, sort of.  His presence on the roster is basically irrelevant at this point.  However, it wouldn't be smart to carry 4 QB's on our 53-man roster, so hopefully Petty gets cut and Hackenberg ends up on the practice squad (if he isn't cut loose entirely as well).
