Word is Teddy's healthy...

If he’s the real deal, I actually wouldn’t mind keeping him around. You can’t ever be too sure about Darnold until he actually plays. and since we are talking about best case scenarios, we may have a Favre/ARod situation where Favre (Bridgewater) would just be entering his prime.

Knowing us, we probably would screw up tagging him.

If healthy he has a good chance to be the Jets starter. But also a good chance they'll trade him. McCown harder to deal because he's making more money. If a team gets a serious Qb injury and they want to contend there would be interest in Teddy. I'm starting to think Darnold is a good possibility to start game one.

Best case scenario....since when do we back into the best case scenario.....now we might have 2 FQBs....holy cow.

Without getting ahead of ourselves...let's say Bridgewater does return to form and Darnold is waiting in the wings - not a bad problem to have. At the very least we could get back some of those second round picks we gave up, or even get a first rounder

With Darnold on a rookie deal and McCown/Petty/Hack gone in 2019, the Jets could realistically franchise Teddy B. given their Cap situation.  I’d love to have the kind of “problem” the Eagles have with Wentz and Foles.

Totally agree!

Teddy Bridgewater “returning to form” is not only very unlikely, it just still isn’t all that good. If he looks league average in the preseason then some team may trade for him if they have an injury. Bridgewater is a Lottery ticket. The focus should be reps and development for Darnold. Period.

Teddy playing well in preseason is best case scenario. He can start, McCown can ride the bench with Darnold and teach him everything he knows. Once someone is in need of a QB, trade Teddy for a 2nd or maybe a player, then if Darnold is ready let him play. If not, McCown is still there to start for the rest of the season.

wwhat does it mean, anyway?  "Returning to form?"  Back to mediocrity?

IF Bridgewater is healthy he is an upgrade over McCown. Whats the rush to trade him? As the Eagles proved last year you can never have too many QB's. I say let the best guy play and hand Darnold a clipboard. Let him watch and learn while getting more and more reps as the season goes on.

My wishlist at QB before the offseason began was Teddy and Darnold.  I didn't understand why we brought back McCown, but it makes a lot more sense now given how much of a wildcard Bridgewater is.

It would please me greatly if Teddy can give us anything at all.

His stats were mediocre as a young QB on a VERY run first team with a bad Oline.

The best thing for this organization is for him to play well and be 100% healthy in the preseason.  I think its difficult to franchise someone like Bridgewater and then trade him, the Pats couldnt even make that work with Garrapolo and he has a better "reputation" then TB.  More realistically is exactly what the Eagles did.  Lets get TB as many pre season reps as possible and if he looks good, and at the same time Darnold is progressing, we look to move TB in the preseason when an injury comes up.

There are a lot of teams (like the falcons, saints, rams) who dont have a backup and are 9+ win teams with good QB play, and 4 win teams without it.  Getting a second back and not hurting our QB depth at all, would be a great play by Mac.

All I will say about this whole situation is that there's a reason why the Contract Teddy Bridgewater signed max out at 5 mil more than the contract McCown signed .

There's also a reason why his guarantee is $9.5M less.

A majority of the preseason reps need to go to San Darnold.  He has to be ready in case TB never gets healthy and McCown eventually gets hurt.

As much as I would love to give TB a shot, it cannot be at the expense of Darnold.

TB will have to light it up in mini camp and training camp to warrant getting McCown’s reps in pre season.

I just don’t get the logic of carrying 6 qbs on the roster. We are taking away reps from Darnold during TC and preseason

Where are you getting 6 from? Currently, there are 5 on the roster and most likely will be down to 4 before camp starts. That's not an usual # for the start of training camp. They may want too get another look at Hack during a mini-camp before making a decision between him & Petty.

What is there to look at?  Hackenberg is horrible they have had front row seating to his spectacle of crappiness for 2 years now

He will.  People act like Bridgewater was good before the horrific injury

I think he was pretty decent before the injury. He was an "up and coming" QB.

Great job by Macc in signing him. Low risk/ high reward signing.

If Teddy shows signs of returning to form, the smart thing to do would be to extend him during the season to something reasonable.

It would be much easier to trade him after the season under a reasonable deal then gamble with having to tag him at a $25+ million dollar 1 year contract.
