Yup....Execs though Rosen was an ass and the Jets played everone lol

“I was hoping they would stay at 15 and get Lamar Jackson, but I don’t have a problem with what they did,” an exec said. “Everybody recognizes the talent with Rosen, but he is not the top guy in the draft because nobody likes him.”

2.

“I think they have it set up right in Arizona because [offensive coordinator] Mike McCoy can speak the kid’s language and talk fast enough to try to stay ahead of the kid so he does not get bored,” an insider said.

3.

An exec noted that quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich, already considered future head-coaching material by former Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, would become a shooting star if he could help mold Rosen into a success.

“Byron will be good for the kid if Rosen allows it,” an insider said.

This insider then let out a chuckle.

“Byron in about a week will probably want to take a poke at him,” this insider continued. “He’s from f—ing D.C., and he ain’t having a cake eater walk in and act like an a–h—.”

4.

Another insider bristled over the gap between Jackson’s college production and where he was selected, particularly with so many questions surrounding the other quarterbacks.

“We will take Rosen, whose teammates dislike him and who makes a fool of himself on TV,” this insider said, “but there were only a few teams that would have taken Jackson, even though he could be the best quarterback in this draft.”

NFL insiders on Baker Mayfield:

1.

That is where Buffalo bet its future on Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen.

“It’s a cold-weather quarterback who is big and strong, not frail and little, in a cold-weather city where it’s windy,” an exec said. “You are going to have to throw it through the wind and he can do those things. Good job for that. He is aw-shucks, likes football, makes his team visits with sweats and tennis shoes — perfect for Buffalo. They don’t need Baker Mayfield in f—ing designer clothes, OK? They need Jim Kelly.”

2.

What if someone told you two months ago that the Browns would select Baker Mayfield first overall?

“No F’ing way,” said an exec. “I came to grips with it the night before, but I didn’t fully come to grips with it until the card was turned in, and I was like, ‘My God, what is going on here?'”

3.

“It’s like the biggest gift [the Jets] have ever received,” an exec said. “They may have played this thing perfectly. I almost wondered if they leaked that they liked Mayfield, which forced Cleveland to take Mayfield at 1 as opposed to getting him at 4. I do not know if that was the case, but if it was, that was masterful by them.”

I guess the thought process here is that if Cleveland takes Barkley #1, then the Giants take Darnold #2? I don't know about that.

That is my favorite one.  Cause we live in D.C. now and my wife doesn't use such saucy language, but she doesn't like it here because they are all pussies.

Or maybe the Giants trade out of 2 to a team that wants Darnold?

I don't care how it happened, but it's great we got the best QB at 3! - Although Dave Gettleman is 67 and is too old to build a new dynasty. So he went Barkley at 2  to help Manning win one more.

A new QB who will sit for a couple of years and piss off Eli, and Dave maybe 69 before he takes game snaps.

I wish Baker well, I hope he has a successful career.  I also wish Cleveland some luck as they have suffered more than any football fan that I know of.  With all that said, Thank you very much for letting Sam fall in our laps!!!!!

Rosen is a bad news guy but all he has to do is play well and he will be that successful QB that we love to hate!!1

The Jets may have known through the closeness of the organizations that the Giants were NOT taking a QB under any circumstances........

With this insider knowledge the goal was to bait Cleveland in to moving off Darnold.....

How to do it and with whom would it work became the questions?

Personality wise; Rosen definitely is a Big No; Allen is a maybe, and Mayfield is yes..Yes....YES!!

Hence all the uncharacteristic leaks saying that Mayfield definitely was going to the Jets.

To much subterfuge, not enough Viagra you say?.................................................Perhaps

At the end of the day this is...

Just a CRAZY THOUGHT and a Great Time to be a Jets Fan!! :)

It's actually not so far fetched. In a perfect world, Cleveland may have wanted to take Barkley first and grab Mayfield with their 4th. Josh Rosen, had made himself toxic to that organization, so for the Browns it was down to 3, maybe 2. If they think the Giants and Jets take Darnold and Rosen, then it's a clear path to pulling of their plan. However, if Darnold and Mayfield are off the board, the Browns can only take Allen, which may have been too risky for an organization that has to get it right.

For the Jets to proclaim their love for Mayfield, in the weeks leading up to the draft, made no sense to me. Just as the Browns love for Allen seemed a smokescreen. So, why would the team with the first pick, try to play that game? It just might be that they were hoping to take their QB at 4, not 1.

Darnold feels like a turning point for the Jets, and perhaps it all started with our GM winning a game of high stakes poker. The thought makes me smile, so I'm going with it.

What makes this even more intriguing is the fact the Jets publicly made it look like Darnold was an after thought.

Think they didn't even schedule Darnold until the last minute and this was after weeks of public linkage to Mayfield....

And Mcc still has to pick them. People say they fall into his lap like it's a no-brainer to pick them. Well he could have passed on Leo and JAdams too.

It’s been reported that Darnold refused to visit the Jets because he didn’t think he’d fall to 3. Besides that fact, it was pure genius.

WOW. Did Macc pull a fast one? We will never know. Did they make Cleveland pick Mayfield #1? They can never admit it for all the obvious reasons but if they did hats off to them. So I guess if this happens again people will say they Mayfield 'em. LOL. Macc the Swingin' Dick. Who knew?

We'll likely never really know but the fact of the matter is that the Jets needed a QB and, by almost all accounts, the most highly rated prospect in the class fell to them at #3.  I think Mayfield would have likely been the pick had it gone Darnold then Barkley, but it didn't go that way and it worked out in the Jets favor.  Worst case scenario would have been Mayfield then Darnold at #2, leaving the Jets with a choice of 2 of the Top 4 rather than 3 of them.

The Jets did as well as could possibly be expected in the trade up to #3 while still retaining a #1 next year.  I'm very glad they didn't make the type of crippling trade that some other franchises have made over the years.  We ended up with a QB + 5 other draftees + Henry Anderson, and next year we're down a 2nd round pick.  As they say, "we done good!"

Personally, I think the leaks were real, that the Jets had genuine Mayfield love, but perhaps that was based on the general perception that Darnold would easily be gone in the first two picks.

I agree with @NoBowles that if there was any sort of subterfuge, it was to keep the Giants at pick #2 to take a non-QB. So the Jets interest forced the Browns off the idea of taking Barkley -the Giants’ preference- first. Had Barkley gone #1, the Giants could’ve attracted some sweet offers for a Darnold fan at #2 (and according to them, they had at least one reasonable proposal).

Think it’s dumb luck that the Jets landed the closest-to-a-consensus #1 QB in the draft, though. Lol.

Agreed. I wanted Rosen but after the cat prediction thread I watched more Darnold and kinda started hoping for him. I'm extremely happy with the result. Rosen will be good but his true colors came out two second after he got drafted and seems like more of a douche than I thought (when I had my blinders on). I enjoy listening to Darnold speak and I think he has what it takes.

Correct.  And it wasn't a true "no brainer" at #3 either.  Heck, look what the Browns did.  Look what the Giants did.  Macc could have just as easily went with Allen at #3 like Buffalo did at #7, and we would have heard a laundry list of reasons about him being the "most prototypical quarterback prospect in the class who projects to an elite NFL QB...blah blah blah."  But Macc didn't make some weird projection like the Browns did with Baker Mayfield.  Not a single person is asking him to justify the pick by asking, "Why did you take Sam Darnold when player X, Y and Z were still on the board?"  To his credit, Macc has never gone outside the box or taken a major gamble with a high pick in the 1st round.  Yes, he swung and missed at QBs in Rounds 2 and 4, but those are QBs and I'm okay with taking that kind of risk outside Round 1 for the premier position in football.  The jury is still out on Darron Lee but at worst, he'll be an average starter.  He's not a bust in my opinion.  He's not Vernon Gholston.  Leo and Jamal Adams are leaders on this defense and Darnold will lead the team before too long.

Surprised noone is bashing me now. When i posted a different story about what kinda douche rosen is the day after the draft, lots of people defended his “winning confidence” and made me out the douche.

glad to see you dickheads have smartened up!

Whenever you see someone quote a scout, remember that most scouts would be working in the garden center at Home Depot were it not for the NFL.

Doing what, timing the Short Shuttle between the rakes and potted plants?  Counting reps on fertilizer bag lifts?  I find your supposition utterly preposterous. No way are they qualified to work at Home Depot.  What would they do, project how a cashier from a spread garden offense will do if moved to the Plumbing department? Pfft.

What is the source of this information? No link, and nothing but quotes from anonymous insiders and execs. Most of these quotes seem like pure speculation to me and should be taken with a grain of salt in my opinion.

In any case, there were a few of us on this board who speculated that the Jets supposed love of Mayfield before the draft was a play to force the Browns hand at #1. It very well could be true, or the Jets very well could have had Mayfield at the top of their board and would have taken him at #3 if available. We'll never really know.

I dont think drafting what is perceived as a blue collar guy, if you will, to a town that is absolutely blue collar is so ridiculous. Some guys are meant for/not meant for certain towns. Personalities are an actual thing.

ETA: I really thought Allen to Cleveland was going to be the pick party because of this.
