NIGHT STALKER
By Dan Leberfeld Date: Jan 10, 2006 From what we hear, the Jets essentially have two general managers right now. One is the man who has the title, Terry Bradway. But word out of Jets camp is that assistant GM Mike Tannenbaum has emerged into a co-general manager of sorts. Word around the NFL is that Tannenbaum is wielding a lot of power. And we mean a lot.
4HCrew
Again very insightful information from DL. It has been my point all year that the conditioning program has been a joke. This team needs discipline and conditioning in order to be competitive.
mbn007
Just looking at all the talent we had on IR this year, it was obvious that the conditioning program was not working. Herm was a fool for letting this go on. Maybe we are not that bad off. getting a 4th rounder for a guy who still can't figure out the game clock, and now also has no clue on conditioning. What else? Maxman
That is a real good read. Interesting stuff. Above everything else Herm has to take the fall over the workout stuff. He didn't want to do it Lott's way, they had all those injuries...well Herm it is on you. I didn't know that Bradway moved to A.C. That is extreme. I can understand with not wanting to put your kids through the Long Island Public School system. But to move that far away is not a good deal. Glad to see that Terry feels comfortable working and evaluating talent from home. As far as Mark T. Let's see him get us out of this cap mess (which is possible) and then we can anoit him the savior. But he must know a little something about football because Parcells really thought highly of him.
Scott Dierking
Bradway seems to be a "commitee" man. He decides things by hat the group things is best. That leads to indecisive thought processes, and multiple directions. It is a bad way to run any organization. I also hate articles that start laying blame AFTER someone is gone. That is an easy thing to do. Groh got a lot of that from writers after he left, and it is bush league. You got a problem with someone and how he does things, say it while he is here. That goes for anyone.
Scott Dierking
Oh, also on Leberfeld and Tannenbaum-The cap is not something I see that you work on everyday. The cap needs attention and a plan all teh time, certainly, but it is not a dailky maintenance thing. I have no idea what Tannenbaums talents are, but I don't have a problem if he istrying to spread his wings and grow himself. Is DL wanting everybody to cubby-nole themselves? That makes a better organization? If there is a power vacuum, and Tannenbaum is trying to fill it-MORE POWER TO HIM. That is Bradways fault. PatsFanTX
One reason why Tannenbaum has been able to grab so much power is that Bradway lives near Atlantic City, and usually is at Hofstra only three or four days a week. What a friggn' joke. In typical Jets fashion, they accept a part-time performance from their GM.

Based on his Track Record if you want him to work more you have not been paying attention.

Green DNA
The Jets are reportedly $30 million over the cap. Tannenbaum is a great cap guy, and that is where most of energy should go right now. Am I the only one having a problem with this? Tannenbaum has been handling the cap since Parcells was here, so he has been in charge of it for at least six years, maybe more. He is knee deep in the friggin mess that exists now. How does he not get called on this?? I'm sick and tired of hearing what cap genius he is and in the same breath, what a mess the Jets cap situation is.

Tannenbaums responsibility is to find the way to get players that Bradway wants on the roster, effectively on the cap. I can only imagine that Tannenbaum reports all signing consequences, in terms of cap related issues to Bradway. ie-"Terry, if you sign law to this deal it will affect the cap in "x" amount this year, and "x" amount next year" that kind of thing. madmike1
i have to say tannenbaum has done a pretty good job. they don't seem to lose many players because of cap issues and they always get their draft picks signed very early... thats UNBELIEVEABLE that players wern't being fined for being overweight or not showing up for meetings. hopefully mangini won't be this soft... Best schools in the country. I can understand the children of Terry having a tough time with the work, though, and looking for an easy out. Daddy's hometown would presumably be best.
