RESNewYork
Looking at this list, I think their is a correlation to the state of these teams and how well they drafted 4 years prior. Does a rebuild take too long when the you start with nothing? How can any fan, even with revisionist history defend Idzik in any way. https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/05/08/draft-grades-2014-jadeveon-clowney-johnny-manziel-blake-bortles-khalil-mack NEW YORK JETS Round 1 (18 overall). Calvin Pryor, FS, Louisville 2 (49). Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech 3 (80). Dexter McDougle, CB, Maryland 4 (104). Jalen Saunders, WR, Oklahoma 4 (115). Shaq Evans, WR, UCLA 4 (137). Dakota Dozier, T, Furman 5 (154). Jeremiah George, LB, Iowa State 6 (195). Brandon Dixon, DB, Northwest Missouri State 6 (209). Quincy Enunwa, WR, Nebraska 6 (210). IK Enemkpali, DE, Louisiana Tech 6 (213). Tajh Boyd, QB, Clemson 7 (233). Trevor Reilly, LB, Utah If you’re a “quantity over quality” believer, feast your eyes on this: twelve picks, one starter (Quincy Enunwa, the eighth pick). And, overall, just two players (the other is Dakota Dozier). That’s right, everyone else is gone. Calvin Pryor was dealt to Cleveland for pennies on the dollar, where he lasted only a few months. Jace Amaro, a flex tight end, got hurt, did little upon return and was soon waived. (Saying he failed would wrongly imply that he did anything at all.) IK Enemkpali became famous for breaking Geno Smith’s face. That help accelerate the downfall of Smith and led to a weird, short-lived rise for Enemkpali after he was traded to Buffalo in the fallout. We’d say more here and try to make football-sense of this draft, but it’s simply too soul-crushing. Grade: D-

ZachEY
Pretty poor draft class overall, you'd have to surmise, as there was only 1 A, no A-, and very few B+. Seems like the modal grade was in the C range.

#27TheDominator
21 minutes ago, Dcat said: most of them completely out of football. Wow. These guys suck and this is a D at best, but this is not strictly true. It's also not particularly surprising. 4 seasons have passed and the average NFL career is something like 3.4 years. Still, the bulk of these guys are still hanging around the fringes of the NFL. The problem was the lack of impact at the top. People calling the 2017 draft a win, might want to wait to compare. George played 16 games for the Colts last year. Dixon started 5 games for the Giants down the stretch (that's more games than Juston Burris has started in his career). Reilly has been with the Dolphins and Pats the last 2 years. I'm not sure where he is, but was an older rookie expected to play specials and have a short career. McDougle played half a season for the world champs, then spent time with the Saints and is currently signed with the Jags. Amaro and his little hands are hurt all the time and signed with the Chiefs. He had more receiving yards his rookie year than any draft pick of Maccagnan's has had in their career. 38/345/2 on 53 targets compares favorably with ASJ's 2017 50/357/3 on 74 and there are people here complaining that we didn't give ASJ $5-8M per. Enemkpali was a final cut of the Raiders in 2017. Boyd was an atrocity and apparently a Rex pick and I think that Saunders had/has substance issues. I hated the Saunders pick anyway as he is a fidget. Evans was with the Cowboys, but never made a roster and appears out of the game. It will be interesting what happens with Pryor. The Browns cut him because he refused to stop fighting Ricardo Louis when Hue told him too. He played a couple of games for the Jags last year, but they cut him and he hasn't caught on again. I'm wondering if he ends up in a camp.

I swear, I think someone sneaks into the Jets War Room the night before the Draft a literally pulls all the names of offensive lineman off their whiteboard. I don't think this is a fair characterization of Idzik's draft strategy. First of all, check the list again. Dakota Dozier was a OT/OG drafted in the 4th of that draft. More importantly, look at his 2013 draft: 1a. Milliner CB, 1b. Richardson DT/DE, 2. Geno QB, 3. Winters OT/OG, 5. Aboushi OT/OG, 6 Campbell OG, 7. Bohanon FB. The team had D'Brick and Mangold playing at a decent level on expensive contracts that wouldn't allow them to be cut until 2017. Contracts drafted and signed by Tannebaum, not Idzik. They also had Austin Howard a decent enough RT who got a $30M contract from the Raiders in 2014. They took a shot on Campbell who was a DT at Michigan, but Winters was good enough to rate a fairly large (starter +) contract. Aboushi started several games when Winters was hurt in 2014. He was suspended for a game to start 2015 and apparently did not endear himself to the new staff. He was waived when he came off suspension and picked up by the Texans and started a few games. His rookie contract up, he signed with the Seahawks last year and started half the year. The team had 2-3 slots open and drafted 4 offensive linemen, plus signed Colon and Giacomini. The offensive line was not ignored by that administration. Maccagnan seems to think he can fill the line with later picks and bargain free agents. I am hopeful that with Dennison they can get a cohesive plan together and get some bodies that do what they want. In his 4 drafts they have taken two 5ths - Jarvis Harrison and Brandon Shell. Harrison was a known knucklehead coming out and flamed out quickly.

jetstream23
I remember just staring blankly at the screen when they made the McDougle pick. The other thing I'll remember is how that 2014 Draft was so deep at WR and the Jets had a big need at WR. Then they passed on a ton of guys only to take two of the worst possible ones back-to-back in Rounds 4 and 5. We left Kelvin Benjamin, Devante Adams, Jordan Matthews and Brandin Cooks on the board to take Pryor.....as well as passing on Derek Carr and Teddy Bridgewater. We took Jace Amaro and left Allen Robinson and Jarvis Landry on the board. 2014 was literally THE DRAFT for WRs. We took 3 of them and at least 10-15 different ones turned out to be better than ours. You think I'm kidding? Even guys like John Brown (AZ), Martavis Bryant and Donte Moncrief were on the board in Rounds 3 and 4. A truly hideous draft. Bruce Harper
That was an historically bad draft for the Jets, no doubt about it. They traded Revis in 2013 and let Cro walk in 2014. Rex was throwing tables because they let DRC walk to the Giants and the only body they signed was Dimitri Patterson. Patterson was one of those troubled dudes that isn't good enough for us to hear about, but is good enough to hang around the league for a decade. He skipped the Giants preseason game without telling anybody and didn't even make it out of camp and has been getting arrested and suing ESPN ever since. Darrin Walls played 70% of the snaps at CB that year. Milliner lasted a couple of weeks and they started a S, Antonio Allen, at CB for half the year. Guys were being signed off the street to start - Phillip Adams, Josh Thomas, Marcus Williams. The only other guys on the roster were Wilson and Lankster. Ouch. It accomplished Idzik's goal of getting Rex fired, but got him dumped as well.
