The most important people in a football franchise - Owner, then QB, GM, Head Coach?

A successful franchise, is successful from the top down. Owner, GM, coaching staff, players. Players, in the grand scheme, have little power or say in how things are run. The Rams would've ruined Goff, if not for a change in coaching. The Eagles, turned the corner when they got the front office in order. The owner has to want to win, hire well, and get the hell out of the way. The GM needs to put together all the machinery, from scouting dept, to coaching staff, to roster. We've seen well run franchises win without great QB play, but we rarely see a great QB overcome a poorly run franchise. Peyton Manning, should've won more than one title in Indianapolis.

Of course, there are exceptions.

It's hard to say. On one hand it can be viewed that the Coach should be viewed as the most important outside of the Owner. Some may feel that the GM is the person who is the most important. Just look at Baltimore, No one is more important than Ozzie Newsome, he's the one who drafted Ray Lewis and built those Raven teams that won superbowls and were known for having a nasty defense. Some would say Quarterback given that Superbowls and quarterbacks have been linked together to the point that it's viewed as you cant win a SB unless you have that special QB,...that franchise QB. It adds to the overvaluing of the position honestly.

With all that said, it really comes down to the Owner and what they're trying to build as a team.

If I was an Owner I would has as most to least important: GM/Coach/QB. The GM brings in the talent (which includes the QB) and the coach develops the talent (which includes the QB). I would be looking to build a complete, more balanced team with interchangeable pieces.

QB is the most important, because a great QB can make an average or even a bad owner/gm/coach look good.

But the teams that have a good structure of owner/gm/coach are usually the ones that find a good QB, not always, but mostly.

QB first is the most important, followed by owner, because a good gm, who will be able to make sure to surround that QB with players and coaches who will enhance and protect the QB.

Then owner, then coach.

QB is far more important than the owner. Owner has one job. Hire the GM. That’s it. Anything beyond that means he’s essentially making himself a GM (Jerry mf Jones). That’s a different scenario now. He’s now the owner AND the GM. If you suck, you suck as a GM, not owner. Owner is simply an investor. Again, anything beyond hiring a GM is essentially acting as a GM.

Belichick is more important than Kraft and is probably the most important guy in football.

Hes a rare exception for sure and to me is more important than Brady. But the majority of coaches are not as important as a Belicheck or few other coaches in sports.

I think of it in terms of who wields the power, who has the clout in the organization. If we believe how things went down in NE this past year you could say Brady pulled rank over Belichick with Kraft to get Jimmy G traded.

and it can be argued that kraft made the wrong decision.  brady is clearly in decline and has maybe two good seasons left.  garapollo may be around for a decade or more and the way that sf team changed their ways shows he has got their ear.
