They've been working on these uniforms since 2014. I doubt it was a short sided decision. You may not like them, but they've been working on them since most of the current players were even on the team.

That's what they say. There isnt anything unique to these uniforms that would have taken long to design. The template has been used in the past. When Seattle collaborated with Nike(granted their uniforms are meh) you could tell a lot of time was put into it as they're unique.

These are a 2003 template from Eastbay.

The MAIN problem with Jets Are the Johnsons... they ALWAYS try to act like their up with everything like their hip or something... Just Be Professional & Present Your Organization with some Pride... STOP Trying to be "cool" Because You're Not.

Chris seems to be even worse in this regard.

The helmet paint is the best part of the new uniform.

The helmet logo is the AFL logo we've used for 50 years without the oval and without the block NY script.

The jerseys are as simple and straightforward as can be, an angled stripe being the only bit of flair.

The black color is new and something the players seem to like.

We survived Nike.  That's the best part of the whole thing.  They didn't turn us into the Tampa Bay Seahawks.

The black is completely dated and has been trashed by every other NY franchise that introduced it. Knicks and Mets fans hated the black trim. It’s amateur hour.

These uniforms are new and look completely dated and old/tacky. The Mets and Knicks both got it right by dropping the black and returning to their roots.

the black is used if u notice ONLY around the numbers and the facemasks. that’s pretty deliberate and understated. the shoulder and thigh bolts are not outlined, the logographic wordmark is not outlined, the socks have no additional black.

on the non-black uniforms the black is basically just in homage ton the 90s, but used much less than the 90s unis used black.

the stealth blacks are a different animal.

Homage to Kotite and Coslet?? Why lol

perhaps a stoopid question here - but since last night's event was partially intended to drum up, ahem, enthusiasm for the team - why wasn't Bell there, even if he had a '0' on his jersey?  and taking it a step further - since they were content to make a mockery of the whole thing, why not trot larry david out there to really elevate the event?

Larry David is more expensive than Gase.

New green- good

Black- dated and uneccessary

Wings instead of traditional stripes- also dated and unnecessary.

Drop the black accents and the black uniform, change the dated/futuristic stripes to traditional football stripes, add a stripe to the helmet and youre good.

We used to.

Pretty much. Colts have a classic uniform, which was the closest to the Jets previous set. Imagine the Colts adding black for the hell of it?

And with those changes a new crop of people complaining would come out against the uniform you put out

Sure. But it at least wouldn’t look dated. The Cardinals and Falcons sets look stuck in the early 2000’s. The Jets somehow thought it was a good idea to go with that in 2019.

Agree mostly, and the green jerseys that Burleson / Schrager were wearing this morning looked not that terrible.  But still waiting to see what the green numbers on the white jerseys look like.   If it looks like the below it's going to be as disappointing as the green shade from the past few years.

Men's Nike Sam Darnold White New York Jets Player Game Jersey

The stuff sold in stores is going to look cheap. I haven’t bought a jersey in years but the Nike stuff just looks like a shirsey.

To you.

Nothing about the stripes they used, for example, looks dated.  There are a whole lot more uniforms with striped on the sleeves than the slash look.  To me they look like updated shoulder/sleeve stripes used over the last 100 years

Fair enough. But in terms of standing the test of time, I think the regular stripes on the shoulder and pants hold up better. You’ll eventually see the Cardinals and Falcons go back(Atlanta’s throwback is 1000x better). Denver is really the only team that’s stuck with the futuristic stripe and their jerseys look pretty dated.

They could at least get the friggin colors right!  Watch, I bet they sell the "elite" jersey (at $350) with the correct color.

Anything foah a buck, folks/Francesa voice

Scorching hot take from a wine and cheese Jet fan who sells his tickets to Pats fans.

If the Jets are competitive the chant is actually one of the more redeeming and unique qualities of the team.

Actually looks like a redesign and not an off the shelf 2003 template.

Best combos:

1. White on white

2. Black on black (*they should green jersey, black pants option)

3. White jersey on green pants

4. Green jersey on white pants

5. Green on green

The black uniforms are by far the worst and are a ripoff of the DX jerseys from the late 90’s. Beyond dated.

I think the hate here on the green unis is too much and the love for the black ones are too much.  The green jerseys/white pants is the basic jets look and it’s really good.

In general, it just doesnt look like a ton of effort was put into this. The template looks off the shelf. You go back and see what Nike did with Seattle, and it looks like there was some effort. If this is the change- why even change?

Between this and the CTE it's hard to even watch games I don't have action on. Football is just content to sell ads. A steady supply of sh*t to make fun of. If you love it you're a weirdo.

What do you like?

I'd like to take a moment away from discussing the "sentence logo" just to revisit this. So just to be clear, the Jets and Nike (a multi-billion dollar expert in design as many have pointed out) took 5 years to add black to the uniform. Why did they choose black? Not because it is "stealth" as the marketing department calls it, not because black means "New York" or has any legitimate ties to the Jets specifically, they chose it so the team could sell more apparel. Because green is too hard for the youth to match with the rest of their ensembles.

As was discussed pre-reveal, gray is much more modern and in style nowadays than black. It would have been a much easier tie-in with the team being Jets, would have been more unique in the NFL and still would have been easier for people to incorporate into their outfits....but the Johnson's and Nike wanted to go the safer route, the route that led to even MORE apparel sales.

This is the type of decision-making that has been going on behind the scenes between Nike and the Jets. Don't let the marketing department and production videos about "bolder, faster, sleeker" fool you. Take it right from the NFL Art Director's mouth.

There was plenty of black Jets apparel available prior to them adding it to their color scheme.

A nice compromise would have been to keep just the green and white for the home/away jerseys and added an alternate that included black, similar to what the Celtics did.  The Celtics are never going to mess with their traditional green and white uniform.

Bring back the classics with the current green. You're welcome.

Wouldnt mind that. The new ones arent horrific (colors are nice), but the New York across the chest along with the striping will always look tacky and dated.
