Interesting talking on realistic Edge Rushers

Bronson Kaufusi was a 2016 3rd round pick DE/OLB type but hasn't done much. Might not make Ravens 53

2016

On June 14, 2016, the Baltimore Ravens signed Kaufusi to a four-year, $3.45 million contract that includes a signing bonus of $845,016. On August 30, 2016, he was placed on injured/reserve after breaking his ankle in training camp. He missed the entire 2016 season.

2017

Head coach John Harbaugh named Kaufusi the backup left defensive end to Brent Urban to begin the regular season

In all honesty, finding a fit for him in their defense is a little awkward. He’s ideally suited to play as an end in a 4-3 system, but the Jets typically line up in a 3-4. It’s possible they could try to move Fowler to outside linebacker, but he’s never shown the type of instincts needed to thrive in that position.

The most likely plan would be to use Fowler as a pass rushing specialist on obvious passing downs. He’s got the quickness, strength and bend required to be a disruptive NFL player. He hasn’t put it all together with the Jaguars, but his talent is large enough to place a reasonable bet on.

DPR is all I'm looking for at this point.

The Eagles apparently have a surplus of pass rushers too, somebody there may come loose.

I know the possible Mack trade is going to get attention, but Macc's actually done a nice job with some of the smaller trades over the years. Pryor for Davis, McDougle for Brooks. Team also has a surplus of roster-able talent at a few spots - CB one of the more valuable ones, could argue S, TE, WR too. Maybe a back end for back end guy helps net a pass rusher or valuable backup swing lineman.

I looked at their depth chart but nobody jumped out at me. IIRC their LBs are small.

They run a 4-3, their ends would play OLB for the Jets.

Article on Eagles site noted Means who they think is going to make the team and Ostman who they liked and figured would stick elsewhere. Ostman was very productive in college but obviously went undrafted for a reason.

Yup. I remember Means and Ostman. I doubt they cut loose Sweat.

I really wanted Sweat in the draft. Seems like Shepherd and Herndon are solid at least - I just think when you can potentially get an edge rusher with elite tools outside the first the importance of the position makes it worth the dice role. Danielle Hunter was another. I’m sure plenty of cases if hasn’t worked out too but the hit rate and positional value...its a nice play.

I like targeting tools or production - some guys just have an innate knack for getting to the QB - and Maccagnan seems to go after neither.

Yeaaaa, why again were we not the recipients of Correa? A player we shown affection for that draft cycle too.

Sigh.

Edmond Robinson - was this someone we were trying to sign this past off season? Cardinals released him.

I was a fan of Keion Adams last season who the steelers just released.

Good call on Edmond Robinson. Jets claimed him last yr from Vikes

New York Jets

Robinson was claimed of waivers by the New York Jets on September 3, 2017. He was waived/injured on September 16, 2017 and placed on injured reserve. He was released on December 19, 2017.

Arizona Cardinals

On December 22, 2017, Robinson was signed to the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on December 26, 2017.

Means was released so as a vested veteran he doesn't have to go through waivers and free to sign now

DE Steven Means

Internally, no cut was more difficult than this one. Means was one of the most popular players in the locker room and a valuable commodity for the energy he brought to practice. He had a stellar preseason, capped by a three-sack performance against the Jets in Week 4.

Ultimately, it was a numbers game, as the Eagles are stacked at defensive end and Means might not have even been active on game day.  He does play at a premium position and has extensive NFL experience, though, so he should be scooped up on Sunday.

Fan-favorite Steven Means was one of the bigger surprises when the Eagles' roster cuts were announced late Saturday afternoon, and Howie Roseman said it was wasn't easy to say goodbye to the inspirational leader.

Means was one of a small group of players remaining from the Chip Kelly era, and his terrific personality and boundless energy made him one of the more popular guys on the team both inside the locker room and among fans.

Means, a 27-year-old defensive end, had four sacks this preseason, including three in the preseason finale against the Jets just two days before he was released.

Roseman, the Eagles' executive vice president of football operations, said Means was the final player the Eagles released, which means he was agonizingly close to sticking.

But the Eagles have so many talented pass rushers, and Roseman knows that he has to take personal emotion out of the equation when finalizing the roster.

"Steven was the last cut, and I think because of what he means as a person and a player, (it was) really hard," Roseman said.

"Hard one. Again, I think for us, as we get going here, you have to think about where we are from a roster perspective and where we are on the 46 (gameday roster) and what we need to give our coaches the best chance to win this week and the weeks going forward."

The Eagles kept five defensive ends, including a 21-year-old fourth-round pick from Florida State, Josh Sweat, who was simply too talented to risk losing on the waiver wire.

"We're deep at some positions that are hard to find, and at the same time, it doesn't make it any easier," Roseman said. "Incredible person, a guy who's meant a lot to us on and off the field, and [it was] a tough one."

Means was originally a fifth-round pick of the Buccaneers out of Buffalo back in 2013. He played for Tampa in 2013, Tampa and the Ravens in 2014 before spending much of 2015 on the Texans' practice squad.

The Eagles signed Means late in the 2015 season, giving him the roster spot that opened up when they released Miles Austin.

He played in eight games in 2016 and six last year and had one sack per season in limited snaps (36 in 2016, 53 in 2017).

He didn't play in the postseason but earned a Super Bowl ring after the Eagles beat the Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Means' release means there are only six players on the 53-man roster who joined the Eagles during Kelly's head coaching regime. The others are Zach Ertz and Lane Johnson (2013), Malcolm Jenkins and Darren Sproles (2014) and Nelson Agholor and Jordan Hicks (2015). Chris Maragos, who was placed on the Reserve/PUP Saturday, also joined the Eagles in 2014.

I guess i subscribe to the "whatever it takes" philosophy. Pass rush suck? Do whatever it takes to address that, explore all options, pursue all possibilities. Correa would fit that bill - and it's not like he's been a perennial JAG.

Complaining that we didn't go all in on a player with zero sacks is hardly anything to get worked up over or a missed opportunity though.  We could do this all day, thats all

That we're in this position sucks though

i get it, but he's looked hungry and capable this preseason. That's where the love's coming from on this end. If he was on the market, would have been nice to throw a bone that way
