Jets Trade Sam Cowart to Vikings

Smizzy

Smizz, potential starter? Where? If Minny starts Cowart, God help them. All this does is keep us from cutting Cowart. Zero value, pimp-juice.

And based on the Jets success rate over the last 10 years with their 7th round selections it comes out to exactly the same thing.

Zero value, pimp-juice.

Nonsense. That's Jets FO talk. If you are giving a potential starter away ,he's got value,a little anyway.

The Pats could trade a fart and get 4th rd pick for it. The Jets can't get 75 Cents on the dollar.

Our farts smell better though.

The Vikes can see Barton, Vilma and Hobson as the Jets future and Cowart being less and less of a factor everyday.

For the Vikes.

The guy was the starter here untill he got hurt,to say he's not starter material is again ,bullsh!t. He was 5x's better than Mo & Marvin and they started for 2 years to many.

Hey Smizz, I just got off the phone with BB and said he offered the Jets a 3rd rounder for Cowert because of the Pats LB problems.

He said Bradway said "Screw you, the last thing that I want to see happen is Cowert go to the Pats, make the Pro Bowl and get a Super Bowl ring".

7th round pick? what the hell is that?

At least it was not an 8th round pick, that would have been embarassing.

If it makes you feel better, the Patriots once drafted the same player twice.

Cowart is a backup MLB who is 30 years old coming off an injury, who is scheduled to make 1.5 million and get a roster bonus in June.

It was either CUT COWART IN JUNE OR GET A DRAFT PICK FOR HIM.

Those were the options.

The Jets killed a few birds with one stone. They got rid of Cowart and his salary, got a draft pick in return and kept him out of the division.

Did The Saints get anything for Tebucky Jones?

When teams know that you are going to cut somebody. It's very hard to get anything back.

Pats could have held on To Ty Law and tested the market to see if any teams would cough up a couple of picks. They just cut bait completely.

Jets cut bait and got themselves an extra pick. No biggie here. Cowart was a goner. Either way, you slice it.

Now that is what you call an outstanding, fact-based post.

I sort of agree with the kid. If it frees up $$$$ terry is probaly waiting to pick up a biggie roster cut later on after eveybody has spent their money. We'll swoop in and land a stud. They always come late and we never seem to be in a position to do anything. Maybe Terrys getting clever. I'm goona give him the benefit of the doubt on this one till it all shakes out. He may know of someone thats gonna be cut. Then again they are the jets........... not sure where we stand on the salary cap.... young stud have the numbers?

At that point, when he costs us that much dead space, why not keep him

an article said that he was supposed to make 2.9 towards the cap in 2005, this deal makes it 2.4 dead money towards the cap

so we save .5 million

a 7th rd pick for a starting middle linebacker who is only 30 years old, good deal terry

A 30 year old LB who had 2 horrible seasons after rupturing his achilles and then followed that up by lasting 2 games before getting injured again. While you may think he's worth something more, the fact is he isn't. He is and has been a mere shell of his old self in BUF.

nevertheless, the vikings said he will START at middle linebacker, a starting middle linebacler is worth more than aa 7th rd pick

and it wasn't even the vikings highest 7th rd pick they got from the raiders, we got the vikings original 7th rd pick!!

We get back more cap room to hopefully sign a June 1st cut CB / OT or possibly even Ty Law.

We also get a 7th round pick which yes it is a 7th round pick but Jason Ferguson was picked in the 7th was he not?

No thanks. Anybody who thinks ty law will retun to form is mistaken.

31 other teams in the NFL had absolutely zero interest in the guy. Fat Teddy has an infatuation with him so let it be. He may start for the Vikes, but that really isn't saying much. If he starts full time he'll last about 2 games or he'll play like a mediocre LB. again, there was zero interest from any other team!! None, zip, nada. The only man on the planet willing to lobby to give up picks is Ted Cotrell. Not one other DC in the league did that. We either get a 7th, or we cut him before the bonus was due. Take what you can get for a has been injury prone LB.

I doubt 30 year old LBers who have missed significant portions of two of the previous four seasons draw much interest.

The Vikings did you a favor.

I doubt it too but we will never know for sure?

We could have found out for sure. Release him before the cap hit, and watch as MIN is the only one to pursue him actively. Would other teams had interest in him as a FA, sure. But they ould have looked at him as a back up. And they would have paid much less for him than we were about to. The 7th rounder was the best we were going to get.

They just demoted Ej Henderson and gave Cowart the starting job in minny.
