   Source: Jets are signing former USC center Nico Falah to the practice squad... reuniting him with Sam Darnold. Falah spent this offseason with the Titans.

I like getting an OLineman on the PS of course, but signing all these former USC guys does kinda smell like the old Sanchez favors that were done, signing his buddies.  Fair point or no?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the first Dieugot that has appeared on a Jets roster.  We still have a Dakota but no more Dakoda.  I dig the versatility in names the Jets are trying to add to the OLine.

Yeah, I kinda thought that too. But at least these guys are UDFAs who are legit NFL prospects, albeit fringe prospects.

It's not like burning a draft pick on Sanchez's no-talent boyhood pal, just to make Mark feel all gooey inside.

Overview

While Dieugot (jeh-GO) Joseph came to FIU as a defensive end prospect, coaches realized before the start of his redshirt freshman season that they had a potentially excellent left tackle on their hands. The switch proved fruitful, as he started 10 times on the blind side in 2014. Joseph struggled through injuries as a junior, playing in 11 games but only starting four. He played strong and healthy in 2016, however, earning honorable mention All-Conference USA notice for starting every game at left tackle.

Strengths

Well-proportioned, athletic frame. Extremely long arms with big hands. Uses length to bolster his recovery ability when beaten. Hands have some strength to latch into pass rushers. Uses inside hand as a stiff jab when he punches with it. Feet are bouncy in his redirect back inside. Athletic enough to change direction and catch stunts and blitzes with his feet. The earlier he sets and throws hands, the better off he is. Adequate lateral quickness for angle blocks. Shows ability to make centered contact on the move. Has zone-blocking athleticism.

Weaknesses

Needs time to add functional mass and muscle to his body. Gets stuck in the mud when trying to drive stronger defenders off their spot as a base blocker. Has difficult time keeping hands punch ready during his kick-slide and is often second with his hands. A leaner who has issues keeping his weight back and on the inside of his post foot. Body control and anchor are below desired mark. Hand placement too far outside in general. Fails to get feet and hips into position on reach-block attempts. Doesn't run feet under his hands in run game.

Bottom Line

Intriguing physical traits and tools, but he will need extensive technique work in order to eliminate some of the bad habits that are holding him back. Teams will be attracted to his length, and one will take him on Day 3 (Rounds 4-7) and try and bring him along slowly as a left tackle lottery ticket they hope pays off down the line.

Shocked. That's pretty damn solid top to bottom. With suspensions lifting and Mac's continued tweaking of the roster, lots of changes to come.

That’s a pretty exciting practice squad, tbh. There are players on there who are athletic and could challenge starters after awhile. Burnett, Luvu, Bryant, Kaufusi, and Henderson in particular. I would have liked to see a better QB prospect, but giving Wolford a few checks to run the scout team isn’t the worst thing.

Agree. That's a pretty good practice roster.

Guys with talent at positions of need. Really like the Kaufusi, Henderson and Burnett additions.

Needs work / development. But could be a nice player down the road  

 

Kaufusi was drafted in the third round of the 2016 draft by the Ravens and he missed the entirety of his rookie season after breaking his ankle in training camp. Last season, the BYU product played in three games and recorded five tackles. The 6'6", 275-pounder finished No. 3 in BYU history with 44 tackles for loss and No. 5 all-time in sacks with 26.5.

I don’t know much about Falah but Tennessee tried to sign Burnett to their practice squad.  I think this could be the first of many free agents that come to the Jets because of Sam.

Joseph got a positive write up during Vikings camp as he did show potential. Seems like a perfect PS pick up.

 

As for Joseph, he’s been surprisingly alright for a third-string tackle in camp and may deserve to see second-team reps over Norton while the guard problem continues to create openings.

He has a better one-on-one record than any first- or second-team offensive lineman, though he’s only had those reps against third-team defenders. That said, that kind of performance alone is much better than the other tackles in camp. He will have some issues with quickness from a player like Jonathan Wynn but for the most part can apply his strength to win most reps.

Maybe the Jets can hire another GM to work with Mac. That GM can draft rounds 1-5 and Macc and get the 6th round and UDFA's and other pick ups, since he excels at that but kind of sucks at drafting early on.

We know that last spot flipped from Wolford to Webb but it stays QB and it stays offense, giving the Jets a balanced PS of 5 offensive players and 5 defensive players.  They also hit every level of the D (Line, LB, Secondary) and every major Offensive group besides TE (where they kept 4 on the Active Roster).  Macc seems to have really done a good job here......not just in the variety of positions and balance but some seemingly good quality.

This is really good analysis and they circled back on the QB thing. Pretty happy about the practice squad. Definitely has guys with potential.

Now if only they would get to work on the actual roster, lol.
