Why this guy is an issue for some is a mystery to me.

I understand he got some perks (oh god how terrible)and then petty jealousy from other fans kicked in.

If any complainers can do better than he did go buy your tix and do it.

He shows up and does his thing great.

He doesnt? He doesnt.

My understanding from Ed was that he got a little bit sick of the Rex act. That was the turn off, the very end of the Sanchez and Rex Ryan years. Ed has always handled losing fairly well (he endured it for many years like all of us), but the ineptitude, the embarrassment, the brovado without backing it up with wins..... he had a hard time with that and he left.

At the same time, Ed is not the original architect of the JETS chant. He has clearly become the face of it over the past two decades, but I remember it from my days as a little kid in the 1980s. There was a guy with a mustache in the 300 level endzone with a green Jets helmet.  I think he wore a Klecko jersey. He would blow a whistle and get the chant going from one end of the stadium. Then, a couple of minutes later, the crowd at the opposite end would get fired up and do a chant as loud or louder. It went back-and-forth like a competition and that was one of the best things about the chant.

Thank you!   I used to sit in the upper level end zone, or near it 10 yd line etc, rather often. I loved the back and forth of the chant. it was fun. Hearing the whistles meant GET UP!!!!

Then all of the sudden a smaller group in the lower level started doing it. So we had 3 chants. Then one day the camera man put him on the big screen and changed everything.

I can still remember the first time I felt the place go silent in unison before the whole stadium yelled the chant together. My pecker got hard and the rest was history. I was all in on Ed doing the chant.

He was even in the Hall of Fame fan section when I went to Canton in 1999 or 2000.  Let's get him back where he belongs and allow him to enjoy the Darnold Era. It's better for everyone!

Me being born in 1985 I can never get enough of Fireman Ed. I was born into it. I've got love for Fireman Ed. Always have and always will.

And I'd love for his return to happen this Sunday during Sam Darnold's home debut too.

For crying out loud he once put his hands on an N.Y Giants fan during a preseason game and for shoving him he was charged with assault, the charges were later dropped but how can you hate on that? He did something most don't have the balls to do.

He's also a real New York City Firefighter (hero to many) and although he's not the original creator of our J-e-t-s JETS, JETS, JETS chant but nonetheless none of us can deny that he's made it infamous, notorious and truly legendary.

Fireman Ed over the years (imo) has represented the heart of our fan base to a "T''. He's passionate on Sunday's and has been as loyal as a dog could possibly be. It's no secret that throughout his many of year's he's at times became frustrated with and has shown built up frustration towards our Franchise, Coaching Staff, Front Office, Owner and Fan Base alike but at the end of the day he's a die hard Jets fan, one who bleeds Green and White, one who really wants to see us win and most importantly one who really does love our team.

Sounds just like the rest of us if you were to ask me...

All he's done is carried over a once known Shea Stadium and Queens tradition and has ever since made our home games so much more fun for Jets faithful in attendance (as well as those from home watching on TV).

H.O.F fan for a reason.

That video is F*ckin Great!!!

Thanks for posting.

You don’t have to like or respect the guy. The team/fan base benefits from organizing those chants. It’s like the 1 thing that we have that other team’s don’t because as I stated in a post a while ago, other team chants are HORRIBLE. Our chant is actually fun. NFL analysts reference it and its catchy.

Again, don’t support firman Ed the person if you have an issue, support the energy/atmosphere that the chant helps create. We need to show Sam that we can be the best fans in all of football so he “buys in” to being our guy for a long time.

This a**hole has already had way more than his 15 mins. of fame. Let him go back to where ever he was for the 3-4 years he abandoned the Jets. Ultimate front runner.

I’d rather have this as our celebrity mascot cheerleader

Who is Fireman Ed?

Jet fan who frequently led the J-E-T-S chant at the stadium.  Then, basically left when PSLs happened and when the team got bad.  There's two sides to the story, but some Jets fans love him and others think he's self-serving and fair-weather.

Indeed, how can you hate a grown adult fighting with another grown adult at an entertainment venue with thousands of children present over their differing preference of outfit color.

Perfectly stated.

So would I. These guys never claimed to be anything more than what they are, celebs who get comped. Unlike Fireman "Fraud," who tries to portray himself as a diehard, when the time is right.

you think ed was getting comped in 1992 when Browning Nagle was going 13-35 with 0 td's and 2 picks?

he was at every game.

Ed is as diehard as it gets

my understanding (and the root of my distaste for him) is that he abandoned the team. as one who has been a diehard all my life (and has lived for the last decade plus in boston) i will never forgive someone for that.

that said, anyone who has been to both games with and without him can easily see/hear theres a different level of noise when hes doing the chant. thats why i want him there on sunday

I feel like there is a lot of hate for ed from season ticket owners who think THEY should be leading the chant and doing Eds job.

I feel like you probably just made this up right now.

And, before you make the next accusation, I'm not a season ticket holder and I'm completely indifferent to Fireman Ed.

See, now, this is where I'm jealous.

I'm jealous of anyone who didn't watch this sh*t for the last 7 years or so.

Mr.Met and Otto the Orange are at every game, regardless of how good the team is. Not so for Fireman Frontrunner.

LOL, touché

I’m not an advocate or fan of Ed, I just consider it indifferently. It’s not about him, but he serves a purpose which can be cool, so just don’t make it about “him”

this is why he needs to come back. jets Fns don't know their history

I'm a USC fan, don't/or DIDN'T follow the NFL except for checking the stat sheet, or highlights involving our boys.  Getting to really warm up to being a Jets fan, so I want to learn as much as I can.

I'm ordering a #14 Jets t-shirt and wearing it to our next home game.

We don't tend to be big NFL fans, but there is a lot of Jets buzz on our boards and around the Trojan clubs.

I love me some Fireman Ed.

I do too, and I always have.  I unabashedly love hearing the Jets Chant, and I'm perfectly fine with him "leading" it.  To me, it's an iconic thing for this franchise.

In before SAR and those like SAR sh*t all over Ed.  Oops, too late.

Bonus from the video, someone is slagging our very own @Sperm Edwards in the comments section!!!!  LOL!!!

Not sure how I feel about this. He was pretty cool for a long time, but it didn’t end well. Seemed like he got really full of himself there for a while. Maybe a new, younger pair to take over? His brother can’t be carrying that load on his shoulders forever

That isn't his brother

I have a video of Ed praising JetNation. He did a toast to us on Monday night before the game. I will try to upload it to YouTube tonight. Great dude and I hope we see a lot more of him soon. He had Ford Field rocking. Imagine what he could do at Metlife.

Seriously is a great guy, and he tells me every time I see him that he reads JetNation all the time.
