I think you read far too much into it. You think all the bizos that also try to whip up a chant are good citizens and model fans. No way. If Sam ends up being real deal, our stadium will be overflowing with fairweather fans. I still encourage them to do the chant as loud and often as possible. It’s disruptive to visiting team. That’s the point.

I don’t care about the identity politics of it. It’s a fan chant. It’s cheering. Make noise is all I care about. I don’t have time or energy to give 2 sh*ts about judging him on a personal level, and nothing he’s done warrants it. It’s stupid.

Only one of us isn't  calling the other side's opinion "stupid."

Thats not fair or right.  He was there week in and week out through the Coslet years.  He was there week in and week out during the 4-28 Kotite years.  Carrolls blown year.  He never quit when the team sucked.

He quit doing the chant when he started getting abused by idiots in the stadium who thought he was on the payroll or just thought that being punks was funny.  He never stopped going to games, he just stopped allowing himself to be a target

That's the thing about an opinion, they are neither right nor wrong. Just as Ed's choices shouldn't affect me (as many are preaching), my decision to criticize him shouldn't affect you.

Thats what democracy is all about, I may be in the minority and I can live with that. But Ed to me is a quitter. No offense to anyone who disagrees.

So Fireman Ed stepping aside because of criticism and harassment makes him a quitter. It got to the point where he couldn't even enjoy watching the game with opposing teams fans and Jets fans attacking him verbally and physically because the team stunk.

I'm saying that I, and many others, believe that was a convenient excuse and he just happen to quit during halftime of the butt fumble game with Jets down 35-0.

Again, I was disgusted by that game. Everyone was. However, he decided to make a PR stunt to show his displeasure by "retiring." That's his right. But this ain't hokie pokie. Also check out this gem:

“They [the Jets] called me just to let me know what their intentions were. I did get asked if I would come back [in the role] and they knew I wasn’t going to come back. It’s just the way it is. But I will always love them, and down the line who knows? I wouldn’t come back on a consistent basis but if you needed me for a big game, who knows?” Anzalone said.

Translation: If we get good again, I can be coaxed back.

Winning changes everything and everyone.............. including NY Jets fans and their behavior at games.

Ironically MANY fans still mock and ridicule the butt fumble even after all these years and some have QUIT on the Jets and haven't returned.

Fireman Ed is the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS chant along with the bearded guy in the Carhart jumpsuit who I believe started it all many years ago.

Cant we all just be happy that we finally have a decent QB and will win some games.

Oh we ran a background check on you.  :)  You haven't been cleared yet though lol.

I thought his "ignoring" me was a tongue in cheek admission

He has brought up his location unsolicited and multiple times

He is either simply masking his location or on vacation or whatever

I mean 300 posts in a week where the syntax Grammer and tone of the posts vary wildly reeks of a parody account

He gave the game away when he posted that he avoided a GameDay thread in the preseason to prove that his negativity didn't effect the thread

Combine that with his bizarre reaction to me and its not much of a mystery lol

Totally think we should all be happy. Totally.

For me Fireman Ed was a man of his time and that time has just passed.

Disagree the JETS chant is the best in football and many have tried and no one leads it  like Fireman Ed.

Exciting times and the chant done right needs to be along for the ride.

I can live with people disagreeing with me :)

Just wish he would've chosen the next week to quit and not give Patriots fans the satisfaction that miserable thanksgiving game.

Untrue. I called spending energy judging people etc stupid.

Your opinion doesn’t surprise me. You are you. You’re entitled.

Bravo on the sally counter though.

My understanding from Ed was that he got a little bit sick of the Rex act. That was the turn off, the very end of the Sanchez and Rex Ryan years. Ed has always handled losing fairly well (he endured it for many years like all of us), but the ineptitude, the embarrassment, the brovado without backing it up with wins..... he had a hard time with that and he left.

At the same time, Ed is not the original architect of the JETS chant. He has clearly become the face of it over the past two decades, but I remember it from my days as a little kid in the 1980s. There was a guy with a mustache in the 300 level endzone with a green Jets helmet.  I think he wore a Klecko jersey. He would blow a whistle and get the chant going from one end of the stadium. Then, a couple of minutes later, the crowd at the opposite end would get fired up and do a chant as loud or louder. It went back-and-forth like a competition and that was one of the best things about the chant.

I knew about the original guy and I also heard from a very reliable source about his "undoing".

One day he decided to paint a green "J - E" on one cheek and a "T - S" on the other.

Then he decided to moon the crowd and that was the end of him.

Kinda makes sense and fits nicely in the annals of New York Jet's Fans folklore.

I am "ALL IN" on Fireman Ed's return and hope he is there tomorrow to lead a raucous crowd at what could be a very historic game for us.

I have met Ed and he has only good intentions and you cannot question his passion.

The end of the Sanchez era was a sh*t storm for all of us and I know all of us were p*ssed at one time or another during that mess.

Fireman Ed is only human like the rest of us.  Many of us have taken a breather one time or another over some of the long years.

He comes back tomorrow, I will be there in full support and the veins will be popping out of my neck too.

Looks like your sig pic is painted that way too. Although those are a different kind of "cheeks."

I agree.

However this isn't an opinion, this is an incorrect statement.  He wasn't a front runner, proved by being there leading the chant werk in and week out.  This is fact, not opinion.

He was threatened and abused.  Fact.  So he stopped leading the chant and putting himself in harms way.  Moved his seats and continued going to games.  Fact.

To say this makes him a front runner is wrong, not an opinion.  And unfair.

ive had STs since the late 70s, doesn't make me a better fan or someone without them front runners

My former Father in law imparted some great  wisdom: better to have a daughter that everyone wants to date than one that no one does. Guys are imperfect. Draw the “shotgun dad” approach, you’re only gonna scare away good kids. Bad ones don’t care.

Well here's a new spin... While listening to Boomer Esiason this morning on the fan, he stated that fireman Ed actually got loud with the Jets higher-ups over their handling of Mark Sanchez? that's definitely the first I've ever heard of that!? he kind of made it sound like after they gave him some kind of a mascot roll that he thought he had a say and actually started being voicetress with the people in charge of the organization? Now it's getting weird right? LOL! let the guy lead the freaking chant it's awesome! Enough said

actually let me reiterate one more thing... I absolutely remember fireman Ed doing a TV commercial and stating that he was a fireman from somewhere however he was retired or not from there and a lot of people got pissed off... This was definitely during the beginning of the Rex Ryan era and he was wearing a Sanchez jersey and right about halftime some people were going to kick the living s*** out of them and he was escorted out of the stadium and then stated he was retiring... Sucks that people have to be a holes at a sporting event but I guess it is what it is... so that's actually my final word and I definitely say bring back Ed

Well, this is true a lot and especially now; Boomer doesn't know what he is talking about.

His seats got downgraded - #1 reason we lost

When he stopped doing the chant he stayed in the lower level. Last year he moved again, I am not sure why. That definitely isn't the best place to do the chant from, I can't see him from where I sit at all.

When he first did it my buddy pointed out that he was a section or 2 over which surprised both of us - definitely not the best of spots for the chant.

His seats have been near mine in the mezz the past season or so. I can't see how that is an issue at all. There's always going to be a sliver of the stadium that's invisible to other slivers of the stadium. The bigger problems were 1) the gameday staff didn't get him on screen at the proper times, 2) the sun and heat sucked the life out of the stadium (me included), and 3) the Jets didn't give us much to get rowdy about.

Yeah the video guy wasn't on top of it, they missed him several times.

The lower end zone underneath him can't see him where he sits now. Jetman is in a much more visible area. Doesn't matter if this was a one and done for Ed anyway.
