Just because you want to give a good, not great running back with substantial mileage $100 million+ when we still desperately need pass rushers don’t get mad at me

Reading comprehension isn't your thing, huh?

Should we trade a third round pick for a player we can't sign to an extension (and would need to be the high bidder on in FA at $14M+ to bring back), on a back who's had 742 touches over the past two seasons?

No.

Also, if you think Bell is anything less than great, you really shouldn't be commenting on football.  He's still not worth that.

I was just scouting the 2019 FA crop and its nothing great. There will probably be a bidding war for Anthony Barr and I’m not sure he’d be worth it although we are desperate. We may be able to find a decent interior o-lineman to replace Carpenter and depth but no tackles.

We pretty much need to resign our own, o-line depth, Decent TE, pass rusher and hope to get lucky and maybe the honey badger since skrine’s a free agent. LT and Passrusher will have to come from the draft realistically (no surprise here) so it’s a good thing we have the extra 3rd from the Bridgewater trade to move up into the 2nd round.

Given our needs, I’m fine with trading up this year since our back end of the roster seems fine with all the JAGS that mac has found. Maybe 1 late pick on a return specialist since Roberts isn’t young.

This post is relevant to this thread because there will be a bidding war for Bell since FA is not what it used to be and not many stars hit it. We don’t want to be in a spot where we can’t roll over our unused cap though so depending on if we can sign key FAs from other teams early, we probably won’t know enough as to if we can splurge on Bell or not.

I’d rather not pursue Bell and don’t think it’ll work with our timing. We have other priorities/FAs to attack first and by then it’ll be too late but that’s not the end of the world.

DeMarcus Lawrence will also be a free agent, assuming he doesn't get tagged a second time at 20M, along with Ansah, Graham, Orakpo, Clowney, Morgan, Ford ... all upgrades.  The LT market, in contrast, is completely tapped out.  More likely (if Lawrence is tagged again), draft LT round 1, pass rusher round 3, and roll some cap room into 2020 when Lawrence will definitely be available and blow the budget on him

I think the cowboys have created a lot of cap room and aren’t sold on Dak. I can see them resigning Lawrence and if not, that’s absolutely who we should go after and be our splurge.

James Conner, a career scrub who came back from cancer, put up excellent numbers in Bell’s absence.

goes to show you how valuable Leveon Bell is

You mean the same backup RB in replace of Bell who FUMBLED the Football while up 14 and SPARKED a Cleveland Browns comeback immediately thereafter? Nice to know.

Ben Roethlisberger tossed 3 INT's and looked completely lost out there without his All-Purpose (3 down) back and most dominant RB within Pittsburgh Steelers history and finished with a QB Rating of only 60.5 because of it. Big Ben and the Steelers offense were awful without Le'Veon Bell.

How about you pump your breaks and actually wait until this Conner James of a backup actually goes up against and faces a REAL defense not named the "Cleveland Browns" before you go and crown him over a Le'Veon Bell who's broken all types of single game rushing records for both the Steelers All-Time Franchise and postseason Playoff records alike.

Spending $17 million dollars on any running back is just dumb. It shouldn't even be discussed.

He also has 5 years of wear and tear on him right now, and the big money years of such a  contract would kick in right when history says a back's production falls off the table, in his early 30s. Giving up assets for him would be even worse.

The biggest flaw in your theory is he not just a RB . Dude had 80 catches he a more productive receiver than somebody like Sammy Watkins..  Gurley already  reset the market for these types watch guys like DJ, Zeke surpass it . Then guy Kamara and Hunt will be next probably Barkley after that.

Yeah, he is just a running back. A really good one, but he's a running back. It's a position that is easily replaceable and most likely to get injured.

Not to mention he's pretty overrated because of how much talent is on that offense as a whole. When you have an elite offensive line, the best WR in the league and a Hall of Famer at QB you'll be surprised to know it really opens this up in the running game.

Just a RB is what jets field every year . bell lining up on the outside and in the slot  beating safeties and corners on top of being a running back . It’s clear you don’t respect it when you say he is Just a RB .

If you genuinely buy into the idea that he should be paid elite RB and WR2 money, I can't help you. That's the kind of albatross contract at a non-premium position that saddles a franchise for years.

Gurley just got it. I’m sure the rams won’t be saddled .

god no. His best years are behind him and the risks associated with backs' over age 27 are significant.

He really should have gotten an extension a year or two ago (although i understand why his injury history played a part in preventing that).

I don't know how Bell plays out next year. He's not going to get anything over  3 yrs/30-35 guaranteed.

He just had 1200 yards rushing and 80 catches . How are his best years behind him ?  At this point I don’t care if we go after Bell . I just find it hilarious crap y’all say to try and down him.

No, but the Rams will be a cap disaster in two years and will likely have to purge their roster of much of their talent.

And everyone will be ok with that IF there is a Super Bowl win between now, and Goff’s contract extension which will lead to the inevitable purge.

Can I get the power ball number for the next drawing?

I mean, hey, you never know. But personally I think Goff is a fraud and "dream team" team building always backfires. I'd be surprised if very legit chemistry/locker room issues don't arise. There's a reason why guys like Suh, Peters and Talib keep getting shipped out of town or moved for pennies on the dollar.

Not really, they can still easily keep their core guys.  They are all in on a 2 year run, if they don’t win a Super Bowl they cut the Talibs, Cooks, Suhs   etc, etc and reload with the core of Goff, Gurley, Donald and such.  That’s how you have to make your runs in this league, you can’t load up on Super Bowl talent and still be looking at $40 million dollars in cap space every year.

Right, they'll have to purge their roster of half their talent. They're gonna need to draft well in the interim to reload.

Honestly, Gurley is making less than Bell and I think he's a better player who's more critical to the success of the Rams offense than Bell is to the Steelers (and certainly moreso than Bell would be to the Jets) so I've never hated on that deal. Gurley is also much younger.

Add that to fact the cap is going up every year . Which is why the rams will be just fine

Suh is a POS.

Talib actually loves Wade Phillips, and that's why he wanted the Rams

Oh come on. Don’t be intentionally obtuse about this. It’s unlikely in 2019-2021 he consistently hits those numbers. The price tag, new team, year off plus age and wear and tear is all working against him. It’s just not necessary. If the wheels came off both Powell and Crowell this year and we still made a playoff run (suggesting we’re ready to go all in) then... maybe. That’s a soft maybe.

Well that goes for every team in the NFL who loads up and tries to make a SB run.  It’s nothing unique to the Rams.  You have to draft well regardless in this league, whether you are rebuilding or are a SB favorite.

Well yeah, obviously it goes for teams that "load up" in the efforts to make "one run." That's not the best way to build a team, but yes, if that's how you're doing it that's always going to happen.

So u think the year off hurts him as opposed to playing and absorbing another 300+ touches ?

Look at the past Super Bowl champions, they’re all maxed out cap wise.   Look at Philly, they’re like 18 million over the cap next year, it’s how you do it in this league.  When you think you’re close you max out spending and hope you win it all.  If not you cut them lose and prepared for another run.  The hope is that if you have a legit QB you can do this rather easily because you reload quickly and hopefully have some good draft success, so your not having to replace 10-12 starters.

gurley gonna make 17 mill + the 2nd year of his new deal which kicks in next year..  which you already said is crazy for a RB. so which one is it ?

I don’t think Goff is all that great right now either, I think if him, and McCay stat together awhile Goff will be a very good QB, but still needs polish.

Talib has won almost everywhere he has gone.

Peters on the field is top 3 CB, winning, and he is happy nobody cares he is an ass, yes if the losing starts things are different, I’d say the same for Suh.  Everything chemistry wise and locker room wise looked great, not all dream teams with questionable characters fail, see Dallas Cowboys of the 90’s.
