You’re looking at losses to the Jags and Broncos. They’d be lucky to beat the Colts to get to 2-4.

If they wanted to make the playoffs, the Colts would have been their 4th win. Not going to happen now.

We you have two defensive gurus as HC screaming at their gm for defense, defense , defense, the OL is the always the neglected.

The GM reports to the owner. The coach reports to the owner.

If the coaches yell for defense on draft day and the GM listens, that is on him.

Anyone who watched the game knows they lost because the QB was running for his life every time he dropped back. It isn't  the HC's fault  we have a sh*t OL.

Ypu want to blame him for Crowell wiping his butt with the ball, or for Johnson shoving the ball in Landry's chest, all the stupid false starts, fine.

Here is my litmus test. Bench Anderson.

The HC IS to blame. He needs to protect the QB. Put him in schemes where he can throw in safe situations. Use a smarter game plan, keep a defense honest, off balance. Players getting unsportsmanlike penalties is absolutely unacceptable. That starts and ends with the HC. That crap NEVER happened with Belicheck or Parcells teams. And what the hell happened to the D in the 2nd half? Mayfield was unstoppable. His first game and he looks like Joe Montana out there. Bowles did nothing to disrupt him. This loss was a microcosm of what an inept HC Bowles is and why this team just does not get any better.

Um Chris Johnson is not firing anyone. You are forgetting Chris pals around with the players all the time. He desperately wants to be liked by the players. As long as the players like Bowles Chris will no touch him.

I beg to differ. Chris Johnson will not sit still and be associated with this mediocrity.

It won't happen until after the season of course. But tonight was it. The Browns were favored. They hadn't won in two years. Your team is up by double digits. Then the wheels fell off.

Stupid penalty after stupid penalty.  They got out played and out coached in the 2nd half. These are the things you get graded on.

Next few weeks are rough, this was the game to win to send a message about what you wanted this season to be. You failed this city.

Not sure how you give Macc another draft. Robby Anderson is considered one of the better receivers and he was an UDFA who beat out your two draft picks last year. Robby is like 140lbs and gets out muscled often. Maybe they could throw down the field to him, oh but Macc never drafts offensive lineman so they have to call plays like Pennington is the QB.

Fun stuff. But Bowles did himself in tonight, he is going to need to pull some serious upsets the next few weeks to reverse the course of this season.

Probably the most impressive post of the night.

When Max has had enough, it's a bellwether moment that indicates even the most even handed of us have had enough.

Parcells would get the electric chair in this environment. I agree about the dumb ass penalties but what was once criticized by the media is now enabled. There’s nothing you can do anymore other than tell the players to stop. The Yankees have guys that refuse to run hard to first base and Girardi got canned for telling them to try harder.

The first participation trophy generation has grown up. Just wait, next generation a professional athlete's mommy will call and complain to the HC if her son gets disciplined.

I don't know what Bowles has done to keep his job. He lost the locker room with Geno/Fitz/Sheldon/Marshall, which required a cleaning. Defense has been mediocre, which was his specialty. Once Tyrod was out, it was like the team didn't know another QB was allowed to play.

Not only has defense been bad and it's Bowles' supposed specialty... we've also grossly over invested in it. I'd expect it to be hella good, not dog turd terrible.

I'm giving Bowles until week 6 until I judge him.  These were two short weeks with a 21 year old QB.

Next week vs the Jags should be a disaster.

Just no more phuckin WR screens please!

I sure wish I worked for you.

No you see this is the Bowles norm.  When nickerson was getting too riled up again but did not take a penalty the db coach was screaming in his face.  Bowles lets vets walk all over him, always has always will.  He said mo wilk played well and with effort last year in one of the worst displays of laziness by a Dlineman I had ever seen.  He's an awful coach and we have had the same problems for the last 4 years.  He is rex without the mouth.  All he cares about or knows is D schemes and that is it.

You're being really generous.

Never trust a specialist who requires top level talent to pull off their scheme. Experts can make something out of nothing, or at least something that is more valuable than the sum of its parts.  True respect to a coach who says "you know what, I'm a defensive expert. Let's overload on offensive talent because I believe in myself to deliver on defense anyway." Seems Bowles and Rex were more interested with protecting their reputation as respected defensive minds than winning ball games. Although, at least with Rex, we actually got the defense we paid for.

In most cases, HC reports to GM. A lot easier to say "no" to a subordinate than to an equal. The Jets reporting structure is dysfunctional and creates these whacky arranged marriages that incentivizes blame shifting and undercutting. If Macc said "no," Bowles would have a ready-made excuse for another stinky defense. Macc probably figured he'd give the fool enough rope to hang himself. If HC reported to GM they'd both be in the boat together, not political rivals for the king's favor.

Yeah, no. This game was on Darnold and the defense. All our drives were carried by our running game and screen game. Darnold made bonehead picks and was hesitant to throw it downfield, along with having accuracy issues.  More importantly though, what the hell happened to Darnold's arm strength? Baker's arm looked a hell of a lot stronger out there.

A rookie clowned "defensive genius" Todd Bowles because Todd can make zero adjustments. He prepared for Tyrod and when Baker came in, Bowles sharted down his leg. Rex would've been licking his chops to feast on Baker's midget corpse.

What did you watch?

both picks came under 2 mins

how can you throw deep if you’re getting hit on a 2 step drop

what throws did he miss because of an arm strength issue?

He played well enough. Made some good throws at big moments.  The Anderson fumble was a killer.  Not picking up the Baker fumble and the easy INT they didn’t catch in the end zone change everything.

yup you have to make those plays to win and get pussy Robbie the hell off the field he should be the situational burner since damn near any time a defender is in his vicinity he drops the ball or fumbles. How many passes does alligator arm Robbie catch in the middle of the field ? ZERO

So my thread last week where he was infit to be a HC and a few homers here called me a SOJ fan??

Turns out im actually Nostradamus.

Nice to see folks finally coming around on Macc and Bowles.

And people got suckered in after the week one mirage of luck.  Bowles DID NOT have a game plan for Mayfield, who had clear lanes up the middle of the pocket. Did he not watch film of the OU VS UGA GAME from last years college playoff?  He is has not fire....

Last night all of his shortcomings ,game planning, halftime adjustments or lack there of and lastly discipline, or lack there of, came out to bite us in the butt.

That falls squarely on the coach.  He’s too much of a players coach and when he needs to bench people , he just doesn’t. Last night he had a few opportunities to bench people but he didnt.

Now as for the personnel,Last night once again proves that this team isn’t good enough to win the “ugly “ games. It’s as if they have to play a perfect game to win anything.  There just isn’t enough depth on this team. There isn’t a Number one receiver on this team.  There isn’t a pass rusher on this team. And lastly the offensive line just flat out is no good.

Bowles and company just cannot seem to out coach their opponents.

Yup, my patience is running thin.

He should have been fired last year but our do nothing acting owner doesn't hold anyone accountable. He just wants to be a celebrity owner and conduct or press conferences.  I will believe it when I see it as far as this incompetent HC being fired.

This is a bigger issue. Woody being exempt doesn’t help matters. Chris can give his media friendly sound bytes but he’s not in charge.

Disagree completely, coaching is why we lost, awful coaching. Darnold struggled, they did nothing to put him in a position to succeed. That game was a display of awful coaching

Exactly. When your only attempts are on third and long(er than 10), it’s pretty impossible to have any success on this team.

I believe he is in charge, he just doesn't do anything. He needs to step up this offseason, he should have fired him this past offseason so the rookie QB we are drafting (we didn't know it would be Sam at the time) wouldn't have to go through a coaching change year 2 but he has to do it sooner than later

Why is that nice? What would be nice is celebrating a win today.

It’s nice because finally people are starting to see Macc and Bowles for what they are.

Not good enough.

Of course a win would have be better,  but we fans play no role in that outcome.

We can only react to what DID happen. Not what we wish happened.

I think a lot of gms do their best to accommodate their HC. You are Right though, everyone in the world knows how important a strong OL unit is , except for Mac. He is always looking for the good deal, in FA or draft, bpa. We know Nate solder is not worth what the the giants paid for him. But that is the new market for a left tackle. He thinks he can find gold with the jags. Too stubborn to pay the premium, for premium guys. When it comes to draft he is ALL bpa. teams reach for OL, pass rushers. When Mac is on the clock he will not reach for these “ position of value “ he takes the two Positions where nobody ever reaches for, and where bpa is most ripe, Safeties and DLs Who do not  rush the passer. I think Mac should be fired along with Bowles.

When you have your QB on his rookie deal is when you pay the premium because you have the money. Mac acts like he gets a bonus for the money he saved. No reason the Jets could not have landed upgrades at G or T in free agency.
