It won't happen until after the season of course. But tonight was it. The Browns were favored. They hadn't won in two years. Your team is up by double digits. Then the wheels fell off. Stupid pen

Disagree completely, coaching is why we lost, awful coaching. Darnold struggled, they did nothing to put him in a position to succeed. That game was a display of awful coaching

Bowles wanted Bridgewater, for better or worse. You have to take the lumps with the rookie QB, but Darnold tonight was why they lost.  He was dreadful.

Bowles lost my support and should have been fired for quitting on his team last season. Now to the Browns game the Trumaine taunting call. There is a lot of trash talk going on in the game we are not privie to. I am willing to give him a pass for now. He should get a chance to clean his act up. Next is the ass wipe calll. For Bowles to just stand bye stoically with no reaction is almost as embarrassing as the incident itself. Bowles as I said in another thread I was expecting a Mike Singeltery reaction and the player escorted to the locker room. Bowles should be fired for how he handled the situation in game and continued to allowing the player to play. Now onto Mac who I have supported if there is no penalty for the action on the field he should be the next man out the door. I am pretty sure there is a Detrimental to the team clause in the contract that could and should be implemented. At a minimum a 1 game suspension is called for should be more in my opinion. Now let’s see how this is handeled.

I can't understand so many people here thinking Darnold has "played well". I'm all in with him needing time, and I have come around on the bad play calling. I also get the OL problems. Those are all reasons which I  think have contributed to Darnold NOT playing well thus far the last 2 games. If last night was the type of performance you guys are going to accept this year from him, you're not looking to see him develop, you're drinking Kool Ade.

Do you look at the box score and nothing else? He did some awesome things against Miami. Looked like the best player on the field.

Jets were out on that series and Johnson gave the Browns life. The game was on it's way to being a laugher until that DUMB penalty. Johnson in one player personifies everything wrong with Bowles.. The entire momentum of that game changed on that stupid selfish penalty. That the coach doesn't grasp how effed that was says all you need to know about Bowles, yet another among the myriad of reasons Bowles is never going to be even a mediocre HC.

Johnson is not a smart player, and despite a huge contract thus far he hasn't been a very good corner. Bowles says he has "done some good things" but no one can point to any such thing. He's average at best, another DB on his way out of the NFL using the Jets $ to fund his retirement. Under the current rules the idea you can even get a shutdown corner is laughable anyway. But Jets are paying a JAG like a superstar. Curiously this NEVER happens under this regime with OL personnel; NEVER. Almost wish ownership would show up at Florham Park today and say, damn the cap hit, get your sheet and get out. He's an expensive nonhacker. This team isn't good enough to be that stupid.

valid point but the only way for him to learn is by doing.  he's making throws that should be caught and the receivers aren't getting open.  he's also not getting time to throw.  i will say that it wouldn't be bad if bowles did take him out and put mccown in to better understand the game.

I'll give him the season. But if this kind of play continues he has to go. We did only lose by 4 points and we were in the game. And it was on the road to a desperate team. But the D caved to a rookie Qb in for the first time. Although the guy was the first overall pick. It wasn't the worst loss in the world unless you think blowing a 14 point lead is bad. I do and I'm still bummed out about it.

Wasn't sure where to put this and it's really not worth it's own thread so.....

Based on a pic I saw it looks like the captains in cleveland were the same 5 as the opener

Mclendon, Carpenter, Leo, Q and Adams

There probably aren't too many teams out there with 5 captain's and not one of them is a QB

Of all the dumb things Bowles has done this is down the list, I just think it's weird

It has been almost 48 hours since the Crowell incident and no reaction from the team about any disciplinary action other than Bowles saying he will never do anything like that again. As a Mac supporter this makes him as culpable as Bowles in allowing these un disciplined acts to continue sorry Mac but it’s hit the bricks time for you also. Was in the stands for years with Joe Must Go, it’s time for fans to show equal and stronger displeasure!!!

And then the 2nd half started the Browns adjusted the Jets did not - bottom line end of story.

^^^Bowles’ MAIN Problem... the man is like a robot... he Contiuously Fails To Adjust to the flow of the game... something that a successful HC like Belichick is known for.... Bowles Has Been A Failure As A HC.

Hue is just flat out stupid. And Bowles lost to him.

Hue got lucky.  He is just as dumb as Bowles.  He was starting his veteran, who was horrible.  Then he got hurt.

People thought that the plan was to play Baker in the second half anyway.  I would like to hear Hue say that.  Maybe Goodell would have made him.  But Bowles was beating Hue, until Taylor getting hurt saved Hue.

Hey, the Jets started the 1998 season 1-2 and then went on to the ACCG. They also started the 2002 season 1-4 (the year another young QB named Chad Pennington got the nod), and went on to win the division and beat the Peyton Manning-led Colts 41-0 at the last ever home playoff game (I was at the game, I remember it fondly), so there is still hope.

If possible could someone please remind me who some of the other candidates for the position were when Bowles was first hired? Just need to know before I state what I am thinking right now.

Dan Quinn-Falcons jumped the Jets for him.

Dan Quinn is from North Jersey and started coaching with the Jets.

There was also a fence post.  I would have preferred the fence post.

Don’t recall that one was it pressure treated?

Googled the other hires the year Bowles was hired and other than Quinn none worth a mention. Was wondering  who were passed over in favor of Bowles  My thought was Bowles the best available hire or the best minority hire to appease the NFL. After review he appears to be the best available hire.

I think alot of the issue is based on the organizational structure.  Bowles boss was/is Woody/Chris.  I don't think they really mentor/guide/demand a young coach like a seasoned GM would.   I think they are riddled with the Guilt of the Priviledged.

What do you think Tom Coughlin and Doug Marrone talk about?  Standing for the National Anthem?

But the heading of the OP has got it right.  "Bowles got himself fired...." because of the lack of discipline and game planning/management.  The Johnsons are giving him the rope to hang himself.

I think the challenge now is to figure out who can manage the defense when Bowles gets fired.  With Kacey there is no one to keep.  The Bears got lucky being able to keep Fangio.  If we can get DeFillipo as the young offensive minded coach, Bowles is toast.

Indefensible, and after the game, Hue said he needed to "watch the tape" to see who the starter will be next week - LOL

I've heard this explained as "Hue Jackson didn't want Tyrod to have to hear he lost his job while he was still in concussion protocol".  Sounds reasonable to me.  We all know that Baker is their starter going forward.

Good.

I wasn’t always on the Fire Bowles train like the rest of you lot, but tonight solidified it for me. I’m sick of his bland ass face on the sideline. I’m sick of his undiciplined teams, I’m sick of him saying “ we have to fix this or that” in the pressers yet nothing changes.

Him and his entire staff stinks

he is blaming the players for the penalties.  Does that mean Macc is responsible?  Why don't other teams get penalties like this?  Is their GM smarter than ours?  He keeps running the same guys out there to commit penalties.  New OL coach and he cannot get these guys to stand still.  It is year after year. With different players.  But it is not on the coach.

After the last 2 Hirings just what was missed in the process. Remember Rex was loved in Baltimore and passed over, Bowles was the interim Head coach in Miami and respected and also passed over. Did these two organizations know something about these guys the Jets did not or that they disregarded.

Marrone might have been a better option but at the time how Buffalo and Jets basically tradeing coach’s would have set with fans

That was the Manish Mehta arguement.  Its still dumb. Instead we got stuck with a fraud who attempts to disguise his incompetence as stoicism.

In hindsight it may have been dumb but still more than likely true. Jets hired Rex after he was snubbed in Baltimore, Jets hired Bowles after he was snubbed by Miami. Seems to be a common thread in what the Jets are looking for to their detriment. This needs to be addressed and corrected.

We said the same about Geno. Weapons this, play calling that. The QB played like ass. I can’t stand Bowles either, but be honest here.

Doesn't mean it isn't true. Geno is trash, but he also existed in a hot mess environment. Just because Geno has gone on to continue sucking doesn't mean his time here was one where he was put in a position to succeed, but failed despite great conditions. Again he sucks regardless, but the organization (GM and Coaches) did little to provide a productive environment. In all honesty it's time to start hiring HCs with some experience instead of breaking in crappy prospects as HC every year particularly those coming from the d side of the ball.

The HC IS to blame. He needs to protect the QB. Put him in schemes where he can throw in safe situations. Use a smarter game plan, keep a defense honest, off balance. Players getting unsportsmanlike penalties is absolutely unacceptable. That starts and ends with the HC. That crap NEVER happened with Belicheck or Parcells teams. And what the hell happened to the D in the 2nd half? Mayfield was unstoppable. His first game and he looks like Joe Montana out there. Bowles did nothing to disrupt him. This loss was a microcosm of what an inept HC Bowles is and why this team just does not get any better.

Not making any excuses for any player, but this is what happens when you play 3 games in 10 days.  That said the coaching was atrocious.

I have said it before-Bowles was a fine defensive coach and appears to be a nice guy but as a head coach he is lost. No control of a game or the players. Need a Parcell's type who controls the players and the game. Why he was rehired I still don't understand-he has developed nothing and seems to lack any plan.
