I'm not suggesting they should be different but you can see where the defensive philosophy sits with Todd Bowles. We start 3 DLinemen in the 3-4. He has 5 bodies. We start 4 LBs....but often only 3 as Bowles employs an additional CB or Safety. He's got 9 guys for those 4 (sometimes 3) spots. We "start" 4 DBs....although employ 5 or more very often. He's got 12 guys there......12. As Rex used to call it, we use a "multiple" defense. It's not a 3-4, it's not a 4-3, and it's often a 3-3-5. But the numbers don't lie about what kinds of resources Bowles wants at his disposal during a game. 15 guys labeled as DL or LB for the "Front 7." Another 12 behind them. I think it’s close at the half (7-10 points) and the Bowles continues to suck in the 2nd half of games and the Jags blow the doors off in the second half. They scored only 6 points against Tenn last week. Their Qb although improved is average. The Jets have the better Qb. The Jags have the better defense one of the best in the league. But imo our D is maturing and can play well against the Jags O unless TOP is bad and there are many 3 and outs. The key to this game in the early stages is if our offense can move the ball and put at least some points on the board. And try to keep our D off the field as much as possible. It could end up being decided by the usual: penalties and turnovers. They are the home team but we've been competitive in all 3 games. Jets by 3.
