So Baker Mayfield is as good as Geno Smith?

I'll just leave this right here....

Geno Smith, 16 for 20, 199 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, QBR 147.7

lolfalcons

If he's "that" Geno Smith. I'll take that guy every week.

Anyway, Can you find anywhere during Geno's rookie season, better yet, anywhere in his career where he had a 4 game stretch like Baker Mayfield? You know, since you're making the comparison?

Also, In this 4 game stretch Baker Mayfield threw 9 TD's. Geno threw 12 his entire rookie season.

Baker Mayfield has played in 8 games and has more TD's than what Geno threw in his 16 game rookie season.

Or, we can just compare the fact that Geno had his best game against the Falcons and pretend like that's a sound comparison.

You can pretend whatever you want, man.  If Mayfield takes the Browns to the AFC Championship Game like Mark Sanchez did during his rookie year then yeah....sure.....I guess you can compare him to Sanchez too.  lol

The only person pretending is the person putting up Geno Smith Clips playing against the falcons as comparison, but wont put up stats showing that has he had a similar 4 game stretch as what Mayfield just put up...AT ANYTIME during Geno's career, not even in his rookie season.

Anytime you find that 4 game stretch....write me.

Or you can keep referring to Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez.

It's easier to control your actions than trying to control what I want to talk about.

Im not trolling the boards making 25 threads or bumping this particular thread every Sunday.

So when you say "A few times is cool", that's literally what im doing bro.

Okay, you win.  So Baker was pretty much as good as Matt Barkley last weekend.  Got it.

You have the last month stats for Matt Barkley or are you just continuing to make irrelevant comparisons?

First of all you're talking about stats like they're the most important thing.  Secondly, the only sample size you want to compare is the one you're using, 4 specific games.  If someone suggests any other comparison you're not interested.  Why not the past 5 games?

Let me take a look...

Ah, yikes.  I get it.  Let's stick to 4 then.

Your need to respond so quickly further shows your irrelevant position.

My initial post also spoke about his first four games. Mayfield played 8 games. I literally compared his first 4 games to his last 4.

I somehow hurt your feelings. Im sorry for whatever I did to you.

Ok let me be blunt about this then since you decided to do all that. ^

WE as in everyone that replied to you, which is a lot more than the three posters you tagged.

(Yeah, I know, crazy right? People you don’t tag can see and reply to your posts too. 2018 is truly mesmerizing, isn’t it?)

and “a few times is cool”  was really the nice way of me saying “damn, ok, haven’t you said enough? shut up”. the fact that you bumped this thread from 2 months ago, made several long ass posts within the last hour defending basically nothing because nothing else really needs to be said about the guy. He’s done well so I see no point in rubbing it in. It feels pointless and it feels like you’re just trying to be an ass at this point. you continue to dick ride Mayfield for your own “I told you so” pleasures. We understand he’s good. This is what @Grandy meant when he referred to the Texas Tech fan who’s only purpose for being here is to bump his Mahomes thread and act an ass.

You’re right, I can’t control what you say but I can definitely feel some type of way about it and the New Yorker in me sure will let you know about it.

You responding in less than two minutes and calling out others for being online. lol  If I didn't respond until Friday you'd say that it took so long to reply because of an "irrelevant position."

This is a stupid conversation.  No need to apologize.  You did nothing to me or anyone else other than waste our time.

It's a message board.  Chill out.

And just for sh!ts and giggles let's look at other QBs that week that Baker was putting up a 52 QB rating.

Oh boy.

Yeah, let's just use the numbers you want to play with.

I'm out.  This thread is a complete waste of time discussing a QB the Jets had no chance of taking because they picked 3rd.

Just to prove how you dont freaking read....here's specifically where I spoke about his first 4 games.

Hey @greenwichjetfan @Philc1 @Beerfish

Fun facts.

Over the past month, Baker Mayfield has thrown 9TD's to just 2 INT's.

Completed 91 of 133 pass attempts completing 68.4% of his passes with a 105 QB rating.

For the season, he has a QB rating of 87.5. The other starting rookie QB's QB Rating are all in the 60's.

Mayfield is the only rookie QB with more TD passes than INT's.

Cleveland is 6th in the league in receiving Drops. Jets are 8th, Arizona's 19th and Buffalo's 21st.

Mayfield the only rookie with a game Quarterback Rating of over 150, no other rookie has over a 116 QBR in a game, and he has 3 games of which he has over 100 which ties all of the other top starting rookies combined (Darnold 2, Allen 1).

Mayfield has clearly shown the ability to progress even after the firing of his HC and OC. In his first 4 games Mayfield had 4TD to 5 INT's, completed 85 of 153 for a 55.5% completion rate. His last 4 games he's more than doubled his TD's, cut his INT's down by 60%, threw 20 less passes yet completed 6 more passes and added an additional 13% to his overall completion percentage.

That's a transition from month 1 to month 2.

Mayfield was about 7 points away from a "perfect passer rating" against the Falcons, and he's NOT throwing to household names. His top targets in order were

Antonio Callaway

Breshard Perriman

Nick Chubb

Duke Johnson

Rashard Higgins

Jarvis Landry

David Njoku

Orson Charles

Dontrell Hilliard

He put up a 151.3 passer rating wih those receivers. Matter of fact, he had a perfect passer rating and completed all of his passes in the 1st half of the game.

What Mayfield has done the past month, is what he was doing in college for the past 3 seasons. Throwing TD's, rarely throwing INT's, and completing 70% of his passes while playing with receivers who were among the highest in the country in terms of drops.

And yes Philc1, he's an Air Raid QB from the Big 12. Same as Patrick Mahomes.....who could possibly win MVP of the league in just his 1st season playing. Played that same trash Air Raid system that Geno Smith played in at WV, that same System that Jared Goff played at Cal...who if Patrick Mahomes doesnt win the MVP Goff could possibly win it.

The same Spread concepts that Brees played out of when he went to Purdue....and if Mahomes and Goff dont win MVP it could very well be Brees.

Mayfield has been quite productive this past month, and that's with the fact that just 2 weeks ago his Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator was shown the door and for the majority of that same month 3 of his top 4 receivers were hurt to the point where they brought in Perriman to fill some of the void. All he did was step up and play well against Mahomes Chiefs and Ryan's Falcons. Putting those games together, completed 46 of 62 passing for just under a 75% completion rate, 5 TD's to 1INT with a 120 quarterback Rating averaging 8.27 yards per pass attempt, in which if he were to maintain that average it would place him 8th in the league behind Deshawn Watson and ahead of Carson Wentz.

He's clearly looking like the best QB in the class, and it's not even close. More importantly, no one cares about that dash cam footage that folks used when they couldnt find anything else outside of how short he was to bring up as criticism.

Otherwise you wouldn’t be putting this much effort into responding with your screen shots, large texts and multi quoting 75% of the board in your posts.

You like Mayfield a lot.

People here didn’t.

People here did.

He looks like a stud.

You let us know.

Catching 112 balls last year via bubbles and tunnels means nothing when you had less than 1,000 yards on the season.

Meanwhile Antonio Brown caught 101 passes, 11 less than Landry, yet had almost 1,600 yards. Matter of fact, every WR last year NOT NAMED Jarvis landry who had 100 or more catches had well over 1,000 yards on the season.

11 WR's had less than 100 catches and had over 1,000 yards. Julio Jones caught 88 passes and had 1,450 yards.

Julio is a household name.

Carry on.

You couldn't be more hopelessly wrong. Clown on.

So all of what I stated was wrong is what you're saying?

Is Jarvis Landry in your top 10? Is Julio Jones not a household name? Did every WR not named Landry who had 100 catches last year not have over 1000 yards? Were there not 11 players who had less than 100 catches register 1000 yards? So Landry is a #1 WR?

Please, explain to me where Im wrong....starting with your top 10.

It wont be this season, but if John Dorsey builds around Mayfield and Chubb that's going to be an explosive offense for sure.

I actually like the way Gregg Williams has been coaching the team and Freddie Kitchens has really put in some nice looking offensive plays.

It's funny that he was the runningbacks coach prior to this and as soon as he became the OC he immediately began creating plays for Duke Johnson.

Smart man. The Browns may (Im saying may) already have their HC and OC in the building. We'll see how this goes but if they can keep this up this could work.

Well if they can luck into sh*t we can too. Their owner is just as crappy as Woody Johnson, some would say worse

You're right.

However, I think that John Dorsey may be good for him. He fired not just Hue, but also Todd Haley which was a total surprise to everyone.

It really showed that bickering and buffoonery wasnt going to be rewarded with a HC position because Hue was fired. Firing both guys really sent a message.

Chris Johnson should have done that this morning.

They've averaged 19.3 pts per game under Mayfield, that's less than the Jets score per game.  In this 4 game window that we're using to judge his awesomeness, he's played 3 of the bottom 5 D's in the league - Falcons, Bucs, Chiefs.  And his stats vs. the Steelers were very much padded by garbage time.  He had 2 TD's yesterday that were silly easy check down vs. the worst D I've ever seen and a screen to Chubb who is a monster.  These stats are a bit deceiving.

That said, he's seem to settle down and take care of the ball much better, been accurate and is plus on the TD/INT side...I'd be stoked if that were Darnold.  So I aint going to hate.  Kid's play much better than I thought he would.

Definitely

No need to hate on a kid that's doing his thing. The hate wont change it. I respect your response. I wish the folks I mentioned initially took this approach.

But anyway, you're absolutely correct with the bottom defense....kinda. The Falcons, Bucs Chiefs and Steelers have been using their offense as defense. In otherwords,  you have to outscore them. So their offense in essence is their defense.

However, Top defense is based on the amount of points you give up in a game. And the only team in the bottom 5 is Tampa Bay. No other team Baker played in that 4 game stretch are in the bottom 5.

What you didnt state though was this. In Baker's first 4 games, the Browns were #1 in the league in drops. That Raiders game when Baker completed just 50% of his passes? Browns receivers dropped 9 passes!

The last 4 games those drops have been cleaned up, and yesterday in particular there were 0 drops if im correct, and it directly reflected in his 85% completion rate and ability to continue drives.

Much of his statistical progression has simply come from the fact that David Njoku and Antonio Callaway stopped dropping the ball as much as they did in that first month.

I dont even have to look but I wouldnt be surprised if both of those guys are top 10 in drops in the league. Why? Because all they did was drop balls on crucial 2nd and 3rd downs that 1st month playing with Baker.

But, that's to be expected when all you did was train with Tyrod....so there was a comfortability curve to go with that as well.

It wasnt like Baker had practice with the #1's during training camp or preseason right?

With that said, solid response. I wish others would do this instead of crying and moaning
