2018 MLB Playoffs Thread

He pitched like crap.

Either he's hurt, or he massively lost command of his pitches.   He does need a 3rd pitch, either a real change or something else, because if one of his 2 aren't working, he gets hit.

I am a lifelong Mets fan(61 in December) and I have seen my share of good pitchers for my favorite team over the years. I think Severino has stuff on par with most of them at this stage of his career, save Seaver and Doc. It is way better than the last couple of games when he can't get out of the 4th inning because he's at 70-80pitches. The thing I've noticed is he needs to , as Ronnie Darling says so many times on SNY, "just trust your stuff." Throw strikes, period. The most important pitch to every guy is strike one. When you are blessed with his arm, the tendency is to try to blow everyone away. I think that will come with his maturity as a pitcher.  I agree, a change would be a great addition to his arsenal. He is a special kid, and is going to have a tremendous career,

As a National League fan, it kills me to have to root for the American League team two years in a row. That's how much I  despise the Dodgers. That being said, I think the Dodgers are a better team...Dodgers in 6.

In what ways are the Dodgers better? Maybe they have a better rotation, but that’s minimal at best. The Sox just dispatched two 100 win teams fairly easily. I’d like to hear why the Dodgers are better than a 108 win team.

The top 3 starters blow away the Sox top 3. The Dodgers bullpen is superior. They have a better bench. They have more team speed. They have a better lineup 1-8. The Sox will lose JD Martinez for 3 games. They play in a better league. Is that enough?

a course, am a sox fan so i root for them, but predict? wouldnt dare.

Believe it or not, I'm rooting for your team. Despise the Dodgers. Was just trying to be objective in answer to a poster asking for predictions. Am a Mets fan, and usually root for the National League. Draw the line at the Dodgers. Go SOX.😀

The Red Sox and Dodgers bullpens had the same ERA in the regular season. The Red Sox aren’t losing JD for three games. They’ll lose Kinsler. The Red Sox had the best offense in all of baseball and have a deep bench. The AL was far superior to the NL this year in inter league play. I may give you the starters, but the Sox just dispatched the Astros starters who are as good as the Dodgers starters. So I’m not worried. But the majority of your points don’t hold statistical water. We’ll see how it plays out.

Carl...NL won inter league play. Three teams in MLB lost 100+ games this year, all in AL. 8 AL teams were under .500 this year, more than half the league. NL had 6.

First time side 2003! Watch the game last night? How was that deep bench, better lineup 1-8, and better bullpen?

It's a long series and the better team usually wins. I think it will be the Dodgers for the reasons I've stated. We will see. Enjoy the games.

So far you're 2/3 wrong with this. ;-)   Sox bench and bullpen getting the job done so far.

Agreed. I thought they were gonna tatoo Evoldi last night. Dodgers have a lot of good fastball hitters. The Red Sox with two strikes are unbelievable. As a Mets fan, it brings back nightmares of the Royals a few years back. You can't put them away. The kid needs to pitch like he did in game 7 vs the Brewers tomorrow for the Dodgers.

I like the Mets too in the NL. Don't follow them like i did during the Koosman/ Seaver era. They turned so cheap after the Bernie Madolf thing it really turned me off.  Killed me when they played the Sox in the WS back in 86.

Interesting tidbit about the Mets. They are supposedly down to 3 people in the GM search. One is Cespedes' agent, one is a Tampa personnel guy, and the third is Doug Melvin, former Brewer GM. Minnesota and Toronto just hired managers, both from the Tampa organization. Will see if the Mets make it three. Ownership has mandated that whomever is the choice, that they have to keep the current manager, pitching coach and Omar Minaya, who will have a say in all personnel decisions. Does this remind you of any other team that we root for?😂

I actually agree with keeping Minaya. He scours Latin America very well and seems to have a good eye. I am hoping that Ricco stays on in some capacity as well.

Omar is a very good talent evaluator. But when not only keeping him, but telling any candidate that he will have a say in player moves, it's basically turning your GM into Brett Boone, a puppet. Why not just name Omar the GM?

Looks like the agent Van Wagenen will be getting the Mets GM job. That opens a whole box of conflict of interest questions.

Yeah.......maybe this guy has a good relationship with the agents for Machado and Conforto. Other than that, don't get it.

After watching Machado in the WS I would want no part of him. Turned a double into a long single last nite with his lack of hustle. To quote Manny "hustling isn't my cup of tea". Indeed !

I know....wonder where he will end up? Dodgers will have a healthy Corey Seager back next year. This Bellinger kid has a chance to be pretty special. Him and Benedetti are wonderful to watch.

I only made it thru the 12th then I bailed. We had our chances. Only scoring 2 runs in 18 isn't going to win many games. Wonder who pitches tonite ?

They should do oldtimers game tonight.......Bruce Hurst vs Orel Hershiser😎

Phillies will make a big run at him.

They always seem to have $. The thing that is scary about Machado is he's only 26!

If it’s me, it’s ERod. Sale game 5. Price game six. Offense needs to come alive. Ian Kinsler is dead to me.

Heard Pomeranz.

What a team. Probably one of the best of all time. Just dominant from start to finish. Congrats fellow Sox fans!

Congrats to you! You nailed it with your prediction...didn't you say Sox in 5? I was slightly off in my Dodgers in 6.😎😎

I swear, Roberts is the MLB version of Todd Bowles. As soon as the ump yells "play ball," he looks bewildered.

I did! And thanks.

As far as Dave Roberts, back to back WS appearances is great but that only bought Rex so much time too. Seems like he just made a few bad decisions. And ran into a buzzsaw

This Sox team is one of the most remarkable that I can remember, and I am almost 61 and have been watching baseball for a long, long time. Really happy for David Price, too. Maybe the Dodgers hope Kershaw opts out now?

I think he OVER managed. Too many moves that blew up in his face. On the other hand EVERYTHING Cora did worked out perfectly. After game 3 I stopped 2nd guessing him.

Personally, I would have stopped after 108-54.😎 Congrats to you and your team. They are a pleasure to watch.

Never stop second guessing managers. I mean, as Sox fans we’re lucky to have had a good run of managers (except for the terrible Bobby decision). Jets fans, we’re not so lucky. Haha.

No kidding. I think that to really start second guessing mangers/coaches, the coach and the team have to at least be decent. When you have a bad coach/team, you kind of accept the fact that you probably will lose lots more than you win, and realize it's kind of pointless to think things could be really different.
