Upcoming Site Changes \ New Moderation Rules

I posted this elsewhere .. Go the direct route.

 

Start a direct contribution thing up where us slugs can contribute whatever we want to help pay the bills. A PayPal option is extremely easy and convenient. Just put a link at the top of all pages, with a suggested contribution level. If you raise too little, let us know. If you go over, roll it over into next year's expenses.  You do the work, so you shouldn't do it for free. Period. Count me in for $10 clams.

It’s not that difficult to avoid cursing on here.  I mean we have time to think before we hit the submit button and can edit fairly easily as well.  

We should be lucky there isn’t a “premium” mode and we don’t have to worry about our emails being sold to some third party.  Also Phil is nice enough to offer a tailgate to the people here that he is doing for very little money.  There are other guys out there who would be making quite a bit of profit off of it.  

If you ever want to charge $10 a month I had no problem paying it.

We can still vent our concerns and frustrations, while honoring Max and the site. Those two aren't mutually exclusive. As I outlined in my post, I fully support Phil and the site, and I'd be willing to donate to help.

LOL. No offense but that is kind of silly. You want to be able to swear so much that you're willing to pay for the right. You want to do that? Start a swear jar at home. It really wouldn't kill you too exercise a little discipline and get with the program.

I didn't say I'd pay for the right to swear. I said I'd donate to help support the site. There's a difference.

And where did I say I wouldn't "get with the program"? I'll answer for you: no where. I'm fully okay with following rules. Don't know how many times I should have to say that.

Guys this wasn't really an invitation by @Maxman to post words or phrases he's clearly trying to steer away from, especially how things are right now. 

The likelihood, as he said, is that it was only the pictures causing this. So typing out the a '60s Bond girl's name likely won't do harm, but there is and has always been a no-profanity rule, and its purpose is not to have people break said rule while winking because it's just a character's name. Most people are fine with the minor inconveniences of the site rules, and resist the temptation to type d.ucking with an 'f' or any of the endless ways to beat an automated filter. The main reason had always been people being on the site at work or in front of kids, and that'd be a terrible reason they couldn't visit the site or post. Right now we also just want to play it extra safe for reasons he outlined.

There used to be a profanity filter, and will be again soon, but sometimes things unknowingly get undone or removed when a site goes through this number of platform updates over the years. 

So for both the ad network and work/kids reasons, especially with the filter down it can only help him if everyone lays off the curse words, or just type out ****ing (or even f***ing) with asterisks like lots of us do, should your post require this extra emphasis. It's unlikely people wouldn't know what word I'm referring to when I repeatedly opine that a certain front office person has **** for brains .  

Prince Philip doesn't get rich off the site (until he sells all our email addresses to Woody someday). As he said, for now he's footing the bill out of pocket and that's how he wants it while he can do so without someone in central NJ getting a sweet deal on an RV. While many would happily contribute via JN VIP Membership, Patreon, whatever, it'd be better if he gets the ad network back up so no one feels their generosity buys influence, nor others feel less clout than one who paid more. 

We have a great time hanging out here (most of us do, lol). Anyway JMO I think it's just showing some common respect to a buddy for his perpetual, usually-thankless maintenance of a site we all love to visit more than we care to admit. That should go more than double while he's paying out of pocket for our playground.

How about $49.95 a year for this site and every Sunday during the season we get to "illegally" stream live NY Jets games.  Most of us are outside the viewing market and it would be a win/win.  Just a suggestion.

Well said. Just more proof that Sperm is the best JN moderator. I can't find umbrage with anything you said. Well, except for the part where you think Macc has gold for brains, but to each his own.

My initial outrage is wearing off, thanks to my short attention span (and my stupid hockey team losing on their opening night). My hope, too, is that it's mostly just the nudity that's the problem, and with that gone, occasional language won't be a big deal. I just signed up on another sports fan site with similar language/censor rules, and it's pretty strict. For example, a lot of Tom's posts that people love here so much probably wouldn't fly on that site. It's not just language that's a problem, but any sexual innuendo of any kind. I guess my initial worry was that JetNation was gonna become that restricted.

Also, I'm curious; I know that the 200,000 thread is locked, but those pictures are still present. I assume they're gonna have to be completely removed. Is there a way for Max to completely delete the thread, or are you guys gonna have to go through and painstakingly delete each pic one by one? If the latter, then that's obviously gonna be a long and tedious task, and the sooner it's done, the better. In that case, will you guys be recruiting volunteers to help with the thread clean-up? I have loads of time on my hands and will happily do my part in cleaning it up.

Again, thanks, Sperm, for helping to put things in perspective. And--I should have said this sooner in this thread--a big thank you to @Maxman for all he's done for us and this site; it can't be an easy task, especially with some of the knuckleheads on this site (me, obviously included).

Hey everyone - we are working on some things. Might have a better solution and I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks for all the offers of $ or memberships. We are going to pass on that but I really appreciate it. That just isn't anything we want to do. This ad problem is fixable and once it is things should be rolling pretty good. We have grown every year and the goals we have for this place have only just begun. So no to premium memberships but thanks a lot for offering.

Like Mr. Edwards said the typing of curse words isn't the biggest issue. We will update the word censor and nobody is getting banned for this stuff. The nudity and lewd gif's they have to go though.

Totally unrelated but we have a gif announcement for the forums coming up soon. A way to make it easier to post them. But that's a topic for another day.

From the "you can't make this up department" Kelly apparently thought it would be funny to post a picture in this thread that falls squarely under the "sexual nature" category.

Let me recap.

1. I tell everyone what is going on, why we have to watch the pictures and ask for help following the few rules we have going forward

2.  Kelly decides to post a picture of two girls feeling each other up

3. Kelly got banned for 60 days, it should be a lifetime ban but if he can follow the few rules we have he can come back in 60 days

Sexual pictures in the thread where I say I just said we can't do that. Unreal. This isn't difficult, if you aren't helping make this place better you are making it worse. Thank you to the 99.99% of the people who actually care about this site and make it great. To those like Kelly, enjoy the rest of the football season.
