afjetsfan
I'd be curious to know how Namath was 6 games into his career. Hard to say. I think he is in the top 3 of the QBs we drafted. 1. Namath 2. O'Brien 3. Darnold 4. Pennington 5. Tough one. Maybe Todd 6. Everyone else kinda sucked I don't want to compare him to the veteran QBs we rented. rangerous
the thing about namath is he came onto a pretty loaded or soon to be loaded team. those jets teams were very good and every bit as good as the colts teams of the day talent wise. hopefully the jetswill put the same level of talent around darnold. David Harris
Early Chad Pennington was legitimately praised by Bill Walsh. Chad was going to be the next great QB until the injuries. Unreal leadership, unreal intelligence and work ethic- great anticipation. Below average arm that couldn’t afford an injury and certainly couldn’t afford many. Sam’s on Chads level right now and trending up. vinny and Favre were excellent when healthy but don’t count

Grandy
Statistically he's on track to finish with a top 5 season in Jets History. He's also greatly trending upward and is only 21 still. Then again its 6 games and it's too early to make a verdict. However In a couple of years he'll be regarded as our best QB ever.

Sonny Werblin
Namath was great, but I really wish people would realize just how much he wasted the gift of being a great QB on a great team by placing himself above his team. If he played every game like he did SB III (smart), those Jets would have won 2 or 3 SBs. But I guess that is par for the course for Namath, because the Jets won only the one SB (that he guaranteed) he is a legend. If the Jets had won more, we'd be talking about all of the other great players on that team rather than Namath. It breaks my heart for Philbin, Elliot, Biggs, Atkinson, Grantham, Baker, Hudson, Beverly, Sample and Baird who were, with little doubt, the greatest D unit the Jets ever put on a field, and Hill, Herman, Schmidt, Sauer, Snell and Boozer who's talents are ignored because of Namath's outsized reputation. Maynard is the only player other than Namath who ever gets any recognition. And isn't it odd that the Jets pulled off the big "upset" with Maynard a non factor due to injury and Namath relying on his D, O line, running game, and Sauer. sh*t, the guys that get NO CREDIT, won that ******* game, and they still get no credit. He was never going to be the next great QB and Darnold has already shown more than him at a much younger age. As silly as this exercise is, I'm ranking based on small sample size since that's all we had of Darnold. In terms of what I've seen 1) Namath 2) Obrien (1985 and most of 1996 he was an elite QB) 3) Testeverde (1998) 4) Darnold 5) tied between a bunch of poo 6) I was originally going to list the worst QB we've had here whose seen significant action but couldnt decide on one, Rick Mirer, Bubby Brister ? While I will freely admit I was sold at first, in hindsight, Pennington's 2002 season was no different than the likes of Foles in 2013/2017 or Keenum last year. They're guys whose entire careers were based around partial seasons of play when they stepped in as the backup, and never coming close to that when given the opportunity as "the guy". His 2003 season in particular shows why the issues went far beyond the shoulder. In the end, he mostly just fades into the rest of the group of guys we hoped and dreamed about, but never came to be.
