Something's amiss, or his duties at JI have detained him such that he couldn't attend yesterday's festivities. Have to imagine the lambasting he took from various places for excessive Koolaid consumption might have had an effect, and that Jets management wasn't pleased by his intense platonic man crush on Edwards. Anyone know what gives?

It's simple.

He's an awful reporter. He has been since he began working, and 5 yrs of not having to do a friggen thing, and having stories handed to him even made it worse. You could see it in this coaching search. His stories were always behind in terms of timeliness. Now, with Mangini in place, the one thing I'll say that is a strong positive, is he doesn't give an F about the media. He'll do the press conference, and maybe an interview or 2 because it's part of his job, but he's not going to spend hours lingering with reporters, or funnel them stories. He's worried about football first. It's a welcome change.

I'm sure it had to do with either him getting stuck in his doorway on the way out of the house or the fact that there was no free food at the press conference. My latter point is also substantiated by Vacaro's bitter article from yesterday. He clearly had an axe to grind. A-Hole!

wtf does that mean?

Thomas Carlyle in On Heroes and Hero Worship (1841) writes,

... does not... the parliamentary debate go on... in a far more comprehensive way, out of Parliament altogether? Edmund Burke said that there were three Estates in Parliament, but in the Reporters' Gallery yonder, there sat a fourth Estate more important than they all." [1]

Reporters are not supposed to 'take sides' as opposed to report the story

Like I said, a lack of professional detachment on his part.

Interesting how the posters and reporters who were most pro-Herm (or pro-Pats) were either silent on the Mangini hire (probably the preferable route) or chose to throw a wet blanket on the news.

Canizarro is abck today. Guess he was sick, or borken up over Edwards' departure.

By the way, for those of you who think Edwards moved from the hell of Hofstra to the Shangrila of KC, may be not. Apparently they're in the midst of a bond issue vote for upgrading Arrowhead and Kauffman stadium and it's no sure things, which would allow the Chiefs to pack up and leave.

Some Advice for Herm Edwards in K.C.: Rent, Don't Buy

The Business of Sport

By EVAN WEINER

January 19, 2006

Here's a little advice for former Jets head coach Herm Edwards as he embarks on his new job with the Chiefs: Rent your home in Kansas City, because in two or three years you might be working in Los Angeles and it'll have nothing to do with your record or coaching ability.

Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt and Royals owner David Glass are about two and a half months away from finding out just how much their teams are loved by Jackson County residents, who are being asked if they want to pay more taxes to bring both the Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium and the Royals' Kauffman Stadium up to 21st century standards. On April 4, residents will decide whether the local sales tax should rise by three-eights of a percent in an effort to raise some $850 million over 25 years to renovate the two aging arenas.

That would be a crime if they moved the Chiefs, I cant see that happening. They are a solid well supported, original AFC franchise, they belong in KC.

Disclaimer: Their coach sucks, they are destined to lose over the next few years and there will be a lot of empty seats soon, but they still belong in KC.

The royals deserve to be disbanded but the Chiefs have a storied history...it would be a damn shame to have them move to LA..

Royals will be solid this year. Added Doug. Menky. Also Mark Gruzy. Both guys bring lots to the table, especially in the "long-last-name" department.
