The mentoring thing is one of the most over-rated, over-blown concepts in football.  What Sam needed was a QB coach, not a back up QB acting like one.

So Sam doesn't need a QB mentoring him he needs a QB coach to mentor him?? Err ok

What value is the “mentor”?  A good QB coach is far more valuable.  It’s a silly concept.  Who was Brady’s mentor? You think Favre mentored Rodgers?  Who was Brees mentor? Rivers? Ben? Ryan?

Whos mentoring Goff, Wentz, Mahomes?

McCown has been a good mentor to Darnold.  He's a hard worker and goes about his business in a professional manner which is more than we can say about plenty of players.  Sam is learning great preparation habits and how important it is to drown out the outside interference and focus on football.  He's been worth every penny.  Just remember that the best hitting coaches in baseball are ex players who couldn't hit.  They mastered the theory of hitting but couldn;t execute due to lack of talent.  This holds true for QB coaches too.  McCown is as solid as they come in terms of QB theory and he's pssing on every nuggest of information to Darnold.  This is a big WIN for the Jets and Darnold.

We don't know since we're not Ram, Eagle or Chief fans but I'm sure there's someone.

Well this thread belongs in the idiotic hall of fame. What did anyone expect from a 38 y/o journeyman QB who hasn't take a snap since August 9?

So we all get to be called British ridicule names because of this? LOL

I think the only real "wanker" here is the OP TBH.

McCown is very far down on the list of "what is wrong with the jets".

He's the highest paid player on offense. Perhaps a better center, an actual tight end or another wideout would have been a better use of funds?

this roster construction is absolute balls.

He’s the only position “coach” who counts against the salary cap.  Lol.

How do you blame Josh McCown for the terrible OL especially the C and how can you blame him for the JAG WR's and worst play calling in the NFL.

No one's blaming him for anything. His presence on the roster is of zero importance. That's the reason people are wondering why we're paying him $10 million.

The Jets had cap room where they could have done those things. It just appears they did not want to, or did not find the players that they wanted for their roster. Call that what you will terms of management, but it is not a "McCown" thing.

How about we just kept Teddy and have Sam and Teddy compete for the start year in and year out.  Paying McCown was a total dunce move.  I said it then and I'm saying it now.    This franchise just has no institutional knowledge of how to handle success.

Cant hate on Joshy because this stupid regime thought he was worth 10 mil to play madden with Darnold.

Todd said he's the best player he's ever coached.  There wasnt a day in time where Joshy wasnt their #1 priority signing this offseason.  This is no different than, Fitz is our starter.  Todd, is a moron.  Nice guy, total moron.

I believe Cousins was their number 1 offseason priority. And that would have been real dumb, in my estimation.

After that, they knew they needed a veteran qb, and that was McCown. I will say it again, that is far down on the list of what ails this Jets team.

And who on this roster should we be giving that money to? We are under the cap. There is no reason not to spend this money.

I'm sure McCown has seen more offfenses than the QB coach, having him in the film room breaking down what he sees in invaluable.

McVay, Pederson, Reid...the way things are trending in Chicago we’re going to be talking about Nagy and Trubisky soon too.

Need to get better offensive coaching for Darnold. What Chicago has done isn’t a bad blueprint. Got their franchise QB a good offensive mind and some weapons - huge difference year over year.

There's nothing that says McCown hasn't been a positive influence and mentor to Darnold.  We all knew McCown wasn't going to be a good QB.  Sunday shouldn't have surprised anyone.

We all also know that Darnold is being thrown out there with sub par talent.  That's not McCowns fault.  McCown is probably teaching Darnold the things you don't see.  How to prepare in the NFL, being a good teammate/leader etc.

How diluted is this fan base that we thought Robbie Anderson was a good #1 receiver.  Let's talk about that.  Let's talk about Spencer Long's abysmal season, letting go Pryor, Cannon sniffing the field when he cant hold on to a ball, etc.

There's at least 10 things I can go to on offense before I talk about McCown.
