Even as a neophyte hopefully Chris Johnson lucks into some great decisions.  Thanks for posting this, didn’t know that.

I’m also starting to think that maybe it’s best to keep Maccagnan, forever, for the sole purpose of fading him, according to this post they might even be phasing him out somewhat.  Guy is so bad you just ask him his opinion and then do the opposite.  Jets will be going to the Super Bowl every year.

Friendly reminder that the man tasked with yet another rebuild spend a boatload of money in 2015. He signed 18 free agents and traded for several others. As of now, none of this players remain on the team just 4 years later. That is some bottom level general managing. That’s just free agency. Never mind his drafting, which as a scout, should have been an asset. How does anyone with a straight face think this is the guy to lead the team?

He probably leads the AAF league in players he drafted or signed to the NY Jets roster.

Honestly, I can't remember thinking even when Kotite was here that the Jets had a worse roster. This roster right now is pretty much devoid of talent thanks to our GM.

Right now this roster is devoid of players.  It is like judging Christmas in October.  Wait until after the free agents are signed, the draft is selected, the roster is filled out and the OTA's are started before making a judgement.  If you still feel this way in August, then it'll be time for the hand wringing and hair pulling, not now.

He was the one picking the players the last 4 years, so yes. Macc is the primary reason our roster is devoid of talent. Nicely done.

Thanks for setting the agenda on the offseason too. No complaining about Macc until his 5th offseason is complete. Got it.

I know how you feel about the GM.  You've made that clear.  Truth is, neither you nor I know what effect that Bowles and Co. had on the acquisitions and draft picks of the last four years. I know you don't want to hear it, but it's the truth, like it or not.  The dynamic is now different.  Time will tell.  The complaining will not stop, witness this never ending thread.  You see, I too, get it.

Eight NFL teams will head into 2019 with new head coaches. That includes the New York Jets, who fired Todd Bowles and replaced him with former Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.

Both Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan were hired by the Jets in 2015. Yet it was Bowles, and Bowles alone, who paid the price for the team winning just 14 games over the last three seasons.

 

 

The Athletic’s Michael Lombardi explains why the Jets appear doomed to struggle until they are willing to fire Maccagnan.

Maccaganan, along with his trusted Assistant General Manager Brian Heimerdinger, have been building this team for four years and based on their construction work, the Jets’ roster still needs a considerable makeover, one that I am sure even Chip and Joanna Gaines would feel reluctant to attempt. I feel bad for new coach Adam Gase, as he will inherit a good, young quarterback in Sam Darnold but little else. No left tackle, no skill players and no running back. Wait until new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams looks over his defensive personnel and realizes the winless Browns in 2017 had more talent. 

In fairness, the Jets have a huge bankroll to spend on free agency as they did last year, but based on their record of evaluating over the past four years, there can’t be much optimism coming from Florham Park. Success is not going to be as simple as just developing Darnold, and as is, it looks like the Jets’ future is more about Maccagnan and Heimerdinger than it is about Gase.

If Bowles had a major say in who the picks were, that still is a very poor look for Macc.  Like 85 % of the GM's job is utilizing his scouting department to evaluate college talent.  A HC generally doesn't have time to look at much college tape.  A GM who defers to his HC, especially a first-time HC who got his job the same week that Macc did, is a weak-minded GM who cannot be trusted to run a franchise. 

If Adam Gase is what it takes for Macc to finally pick good players, my point still stands.  In fact, its strengthened.

There's a reason this thread is never-ending.  And its not because we're wrong.  We want nothing more than Macc to finally pick some good players.  This is an incredibly important offseason and draft.  We have an awful lot of draft capital merely by holding the # 3 pick.  We can't get it wrong.  Macc blind-squirreled his way into Darnold.  Now he needs to actually make smart decisions that require more than just a whole lot of luck.

If this is the case, then what exactly is the point here.  This horse had already been beaten to death a very long time ago.  No one here is apologizing  for Macc's poor drafting and signings of the past.  What your "side" fails  to recognize or acknowledge, is the contributions and responsibility both Bowles [both coaching and influence} and the Management Structure, had in those poor decisions. The incessant railing against Maccagnan will not change the status quo.  He is here, for better or worse, we just have to make the best of it.

Because we want him fired.  Just because he wasn't fired this past offseason doesn't mean that goal has changed.  Until he does something proving he's worthy of holding one of the 32 most important jobs in the NFL, we'll keep railing incessantly.

He should have been shown the door with Bowles.  This guy is a failure whose drafts have had some of the worst overall player retention wise for all of pro sports in North America.  Hackenberg, AirDarius, Hansen, Nathan Shepard (small college reach in 3rd but still on the team), Devin Smith, Petty and Mauldin, all failures in the NFL and picked in the rounds 2-4.  Not a good track record so far and Mac still has the keys.  Great that he now can spend on Free Agents.  Not happy I contribute $10K a year to that fund.....

I generally do ignore this thread.  Don't make this personal.  You and I have generally a symbiotic view on things. I'd like to keep it that way.  Do you really think threads like this will expedite Maccagnan's departure from the Jets?  If so, go ahead, knock yourself out.

He's got a lot of making up to do to undo what he has done here in the past 4 years.......did you happen to watch the AAF football league I think Macc and the NY Jets lead the league in  most players.
