It's unreal.  It's legit ridiculous to think we're going to fill all these holes in one offseason.  So even with all the cap space and draft picks, the Jets will still go into 2020 with a ton of holes.

But yes, let's keep the guy around who is responsible for putting us squarely in this position.

So you’ve signed Powell, Qvale, Andersen, Enunwa and Roberts in free agency and still need to find 7 more legit players on offense who could make the 53 man roster.  $100 million isn’t going to go very far.  Going to be an off-season full of JAG free agent signings just to fill out a roster.

Exactly and we aren’t. It’s completely ridiculous that we have these many holes after 4 years. Talk about complete failure.

they were probably going to need around 10 players just because of attrition.  they won't be able to fill all the hoes with blue chips but they can upgrade many of them.

I would put TE as low on the priority list, I think Hendon looks legit and Leggett has even showed promise.  Neil Sterling could be that #3 if he can stay healthy but def. low on priority list IMO.   I'm also intrigued by Nickerson as our nickel corner and would love to see him get some playing time down the stretch.  Of course with Bowles knowing he's fired he'll try to get that extra win or two over playing the younger guys so I doubt we'll see him or Deontey Burnett or even more Rishard Matthews.

2019 Jets Roster Needs

HIGH PRIORITY NEEDS

  • Wide Receiver (High Starting Caliber)
  • Center / Guard (High Starting Caliber)
  • Edge Rusher / OLB (High Starting Caliber)  --  Spend whatever we need to to get Anthony Barr
  • Cornerback (Starting Caliber)

MEDIUM PRIORITY NEEDS

  • Offensive Tackle (Starting Caliber/Solid Back Up Caliber)
  • Defensive Tackle ( AT LEAST Contributor/Solid Back Up Caliber)
  • Tight End (Contributor/Solid Back Up Caliber)
  • Wide Receiver (Contributor/Solid Back Up Caliber)

LOW PRIORITY NEEDS

  • QB (Veteran Back Up)
  • Center / Guard (Back Up Caliber)
  • Running Back (Back Up/3rd Down Back)
  • Wide Receiver (Back Up/Special Teamer)
  • Cornerback (Back Up/Special Teamer)
  • Safety (Back Up/Special Teamer)

Nice work Sarge!

From a free agency perspective, these are the guys I think we need to go after.  I left blank the positions where there are just no options currently that fit the need at the moment or just weren't important enough to warrant listing any names.

Obviously we can't/won't sign all of them, and several might never hit free agency, but a few of these would make a nice haul:

HIGH PRIORITY NEEDS

  • Wide Receiver (High Starting Caliber)  --  Golden Tate
  • Center / Guard (High Starting Caliber)  -- G:  Quinton Spain;  C : Matt Paradis or Brett Jones (can also play G)
  • Edge Rusher / OLB (High Starting Caliber)  --  Spend whatever we need to to get Anthony Barr or 2nd choice Demarcus Lawrence.  Supplement this addition by also landing Ziggy Ansah or Jadeveon Clowney
  • Cornerback (Starting Caliber) -- Ronald Darby, Kareem Jackson, Bryce Callahan, or Bradley Roby

MEDIUM PRIORITY NEEDS

  • Offensive Tackle (Starting Caliber/Solid Back Up Caliber)
  • Defensive Tackle ( AT LEAST Contributor/Solid Back Up Caliber)
  • Tight End (Contributor/Solid Back Up Caliber) -- Jesse James or Lance Kendricks
  • Wide Receiver (Contributor/Solid Back Up Caliber)  -- Cole Beasley

LOW PRIORITY NEEDS

  • QB (Veteran Back Up)  --  Tyrod Taylor, Teddy Bridgewater, or bring back McCown
  • Center / Guard (Back Up Caliber)
  • Running Back (Back Up/3rd Down Back)  --  Ty Montgomery or Tevin Coleman
  • Wide Receiver (Back Up/Special Teamer)
  • Cornerback (Back Up/Special Teamer)
  • Safety (Back Up/Special Teamer)

It's okay because the rebuild is just beginning.

Powell and Mclendon likely retire.

Crowell and Long get released

Long isn't going anywhere.  Carpenter's contract is up, and they won't be re-signing him, while Long has been an upgrade at the position anyway.  They have enough issues along the OL, that they won't create themselves another.  Long will stick around as a guard while they look for a center and at least one OT.

Teddy Bridgewater will be starting in the NFL next season.

DO NOT bring back Josh McCown unless its as a coach.

There's not a dearth of options out there in free agency.  So unless someone decent gets cut OR you're advocating using a middle round draft pick on a QB, McCown is one of the better options provided he doesn't retire.  At least he knows he'll be the backup and is comfortable in that role.

I hate to agree but a new HC wont treat him like he's a starter anymore in this league and hopefully he comes cheap if we do re-sign him.

Yep.

Here are some of the other names.  Ugly, for sure:

  • Matt Schaub
  • Brett Hundley
  • Trevor Siemian
  • Ryan Fitzpatrick
  • Matt Cassel
  • RG3
  • Geno Smith
  • Mark Sanchez
  • Brock Osweiler
  • Matt Barkley
  • Brandon Weeden
  • Tom Savage

The only name remotely interesting to me is not on the list above:  Taylor Heinicke from the Panthers.  Small school guy who would be dirt cheap and performed well in preseason games this year (24-36, 323 yards, 2 TD's, 1 INT, 102.0 QB Rating in 4 appearances).

When you're talking backup QB, that's the kind of position that could be easily influenced by who they end up bringing in as HC.  If it's an offensive coach, any available veteran he has experience with would likely be the target.  Of course you could make the argument at any other position, but at QB it would ideally be a guy who knows the offense around and would be helping out Darnold.  It would be similar if they end up bringing in a veteran OC.  We saw that first hand, considering Gailey's hire was what led to the trade for Fitzy.

John Harbaugh - RG3

Jim Harbaugh - Colin Kaepernick

The latter would make this board sooooo much fun!

This list right here is exactly why you trade 3 2nd rounders to get Darnold.

Oh man, I could only freakin' imagine.  Although the more likely scenario would be that Jim Harbaugh would come in, then bring up the point of signing Kap, the Johnsons would veto that idea, Harbaugh would quit.

Jim Harbaugh has worked with Josh Johnson before (also a UFA), so that would be a nice safe backup backup plan.

I don't think we need corners. I feel Trumaine and Mo will get it together with an actual NFL head coach. I would like an upgrade but there are bigger fish to fry here.

Wide Receiver and Offensive line in general are priority number 1. I don't care if no one is drafted or picked up in free agency on defense. The offense for Sam's sake takes priority over everything else and Sam needs a true #1 receiver.

I feel Herndon will develop into a top 15 tight end by this time next year. But some depth would be nice, overall not a huge need.

Edge rusher is a big need. I'm all for keeping this defense in tact the way it is except just adding a couple of Edge guys. I think this defense is talented enough to help Sam win games. We just need to focus on building the offense for Sam.

That's it. All Mac (or whoever replaces him) has to do is fill the offense with talent and this team is a legit contender.

This roster isn't as bad as Todd Bowles tries to make it look like.
