New Jets coach Adam Gase is retaining special teams coordinator Brant Boyer, a source confirmed. This is a key move for Gase. Boyer did a terrific job last season under Todd Bowles and drew interest from multiple teams, but he's getting a contract extension to stay with the Jets. Boyer coached two Pro Bowl players in 2018 — KR Andre Roberts and PK Jason Myers. (First reported by Adam Caplan of Sirius).

Hungry for the NFL draft? Check out the Senior Bowl tomorrow. Keep an eye on these players, all of whom play positions of need for the Jets: DE Montez Sweat (Mississippi State), DE L.J. Collier (TCU), DE Zach Allen (Boston College), WR Deebo Samuel (South Carolina), WR Terry McLaurin (Ohio State), OT Kaleb McGary (Washington) and OT Dalton Risner (Kansas State). We're not talking potential third-overall picks here, but there's first- and second-day talent in the group. The Jets value the Senior Bowl and the practices leading up to the game. A year ago, they drafted DE Nathan Shepherd, in large part, because of how he performed in the practices.

No fewer than 12 former Jets, including four draft choices, made the final 52-man rosters for the Alliance of American Football, a developmental league that kicks off Feb. 9. The former Jets picks are QB Christian Hackenberg, CB Dexter McDougle, LB Dylan Donahue and LB Trevor Reilly. Other ex-Jets are K Nick Folk, QB Matt Simms, WR Jalin Marshall and RB Zac Stacy.

It sounds like new Jets coach Adam Gase will be running high-intensity practices. A guest on the "Stupodity" podcast, hosted by ESPN's Stugotz, Gase said his new coaching staff will bring the fire. "Practice is going to feel like a game," he said. "It's going to be competitive. It's probably going to start off where we're taking more than the players and they'll be going, ‘What's wrong with these guys?' That's how we are. We're all competitors in this building. That's the kind of fire you want at practice. You want guys to feel that and understand this is going to be harder than the game." Other than the coordinators, the Jets have yet to announce Gase's staff.

In his 2.0 mock draft, ESPN's Todd McShay has the Jets selecting Michigan DE Rashan Gary at 3. With Ohio State DE Nick Bosa and Kentucky OLB Josh Allen off the board, McShay picks Gary over Alabama DT Quinnen Williams. This would be an interesting dilemma for the Jets. Williams is generally considered a better prospect than Gary, but Gary fills a need because he can play on the edge. Gary scares me a bit because his production didn't match his raw talent. A shoulder injury probably factored into that. In this scenario, I think GM Mike Maccagnan should strongly consider trading down and taking an offensive lineman. Build a wall for Sam Darnold.
