On paper Caldwell is the AHC, and Dennison has at least run half a team before. With the interim coach in place they can still keep things the same for Darnold (who was sinking back then just while leaving things the same anyhow). Also fire the GM and in the meantime temporarily promote Heimerdinger. After the trade deadline there wasn't much team managing to do for the rest of the season. Then even though this team's ownership would never do it, start searching for head of football ops. The thing about this is you don't have to officially hire him just yet -- in the meantime this future football ops exec can talk informally and unofficially to any potential GMs or HCs (or both) he's already on speaking terms with, and gauge which counterpart each already knows well or thinks has a similar philosophy and value system. When he's made his rounds, make it official and hire him. Now they've got a leg up on the rest of the league, and don't have to keep on the failure GM just so they aren't too far behind picking a HC. Not that it really should matter; every candidate knows the Jets have a vacancy and a worthwhile young QB anyway. OR we could keep Bowles on for the rest of the season, keep Maccagnan on for another 4 seasons, and let the career scout who sucks at scouting pick the next HC (or let the interim owner pick the next one for him, which is no better).
