What player would you debate is the best Jet Free agent signing of all time? My quick guess on this without research would be:

1. Kevin Mawae

2. Vinny Testaverde

3. Thomas Jones

4. Curtis Martin (devalued based on what we gave up).

Please tell me I am wrong

Parcells, baby. Man could build a franchise.

By the way if you really want to be sad:

Who was the last jets drafted WR to have 1000 yards receiving in a season?

The last Jets drafted RB to have a 1000 yards rushing in a season?

I'll go with Laveranues Coles and Adrian Murrell.

I was just saying that in general. Whenever something good happens, I say, “Parcells, baby.”

I agree. IMO,  Parcells was the best HC of all time.  No matter how pathetic a franchise was when he arrived, he made them winners.  The Giants, Patriots, Jets & Cowboys all sucked before he arrived.

This is our post of the year, friends. There are no other contenders. Maxman, mount this immediately.

I could be wrong but i believe it was cotchery 2007 and shonn greene 2012. Pretty depressing though if you consider the receiver is almost 12 years ago at this point.

Clearly, my memory is a pessimist. Forgot that Cotch went over 1000, and had completely forgotten the existence of Shonn Greene.

Not that fair a question for the simple reason the Jets have pretty much stayed away from drafting Offense for around the last 30 years until Sammy.  Mark Sanchez doesn't count.

Not sure i agree with this.  i think he was really good at identifying a franchise with underutilized talent, was able move in and get them to 10-6 pretty quick with draft position (#1 overall) simply by replacing very weak coaching with competent coaching.

Not sure how good he was at closing out the deal..

Here is the 1996 roster (bolding my own).  It was criminal for Kotite to go 1-15 with these guys.

I don’t have the exact numbers handy, but I once charted the records of teams Parcells took over before he shows up and after he leaves it. The aggregate was, in the three years prior to his arrival, those teams won at  at 35% clip. The three years post-Parcells, they won at a 65% clip.

As I said he was very good at identifying good situations in which to land.  All i am saying is that at least some of this is akin to a football version of a dead cat bounce.  He inherited quite of bit of talent, full control and the #1 overall pick.

The New York Jets job, after Rich Kotite, was a “good situation”?

Are you kidding me?

good/great WR tandem (Keyshawn, Chrebet)

good/great linebackers (Jones, Lewis, Clifton)

strong front end Corners (Mickens and Glenn)

decent DL pass rush in Hugh Douglas and Marvin Washington....

Just look at the (cleaned up) roster I posted and tell me that was a 1-15 team.

and the #1 overall pick

and....

a 1-15 record which served to lower expectations everywhere.  What part of that is not a good/great situation in which to land?
