Scott Dierking
What player would you debate is the best Jet Free agent signing of all time? My quick guess on this without research would be: 1. Kevin Mawae 2. Vinny Testaverde 3. Thomas Jones 4. Curtis Martin (devalued based on what we gave up). Please tell me I am wrong

Bocajetfan
The issue with free agency is they sign 4-5 year deal with 2 years of production and the remainder complaints of over paying. In the case of Mawae may have been an exception.

Not that fair a question for the simple reason the Jets have pretty much stayed away from drafting Offense for around the last 30 years until Sammy. Mark Sanchez doesn't count. Not sure i agree with this. i think he was really good at identifying a franchise with underutilized talent, was able move in and get them to 10-6 pretty quick with draft position (#1 overall) simply by replacing very weak coaching with competent coaching. Not sure how good he was at closing out the deal.. Here is the 1996 roster (bolding my own). It was criminal for Kotite to go 1-15 with these guys. ayer | Team Total 72 David Alexander 20 Richie Anderson 85 Henry Bailey 84 Fred Baxter 58 Aubrey Beavers 69 Harry Boatswain 88 Kyle Brady 94 Matt Brock 26 Ron Carpenter 53 Chad Cascadden 71 Mike Chalenski 80 Wayne Chrebet 59 Kyle Clifton 28 Reggie Cobb 42 Marcus Coleman 27 Lou D'Agostino 83 Tyrone Davis 99 Hugh Douglas 62 Roger Duffy 76 Jumbo Elliott 38 Kwame Ellis 96 Jeff Faulkner 4 Glenn Foley 64 Harry Galbreath 31 Aaron Glenn 81 Jeff Graham 21 Victor Green 22 Carl Greenwood 98 Mark Gunn 92 Bobby Hamilton 56 Rick Hamilton 11 Brian Hansen 79 Melvin Hayes 55 Bobby Houston 74 Erik Howard 65 John Hudson 19 Keyshawn Johnson 25 Gary Jones 54 Marvin Jones 95 Brad Keeney 57 Mo Lewis 8 Nick Lowery 75 Siupeli Malamala 32 Sherriden May 24 Ray Mickens 33 Ronald Moore Adrian Murrell 29 14 Neil O'Donnell 70 Matt O'Dwyer 77 James Parrish 7 Frank Reich 89 Phillip Riley 5 Don Silvestri 87 Webster Slaughter 45 Otis Smith (was gonna bold this one to see if I could induce a reaction) 93 Marc Spindler 86 Alex Van Dyke 97 Marvin Washington 91 Brent Williams 73 David Williams 44 Lonnie Young 23 Eric Zomalt

I don’t have the exact numbers handy, but I once charted the records of teams Parcells took over before he shows up and after he leaves it. The aggregate was, in the three years prior to his arrival, those teams won at at 35% clip. The three years post-Parcells, they won at a 65% clip. As I said he was very good at identifying good situations in which to land. All i am saying is that at least some of this is akin to a football version of a dead cat bounce. He inherited quite of bit of talent, full control and the #1 overall pick.

Are you kidding me? good/great WR tandem (Keyshawn, Chrebet) good/great linebackers (Jones, Lewis, Clifton) strong front end Corners (Mickens and Glenn) decent DL pass rush in Hugh Douglas and Marvin Washington.... Just look at the (cleaned up) roster I posted and tell me that was a 1-15 team. and the #1 overall pick and.... a 1-15 record which served to lower expectations everywhere. What part of that is not a good/great situation in which to land?
