Jamal Adams wants Jets to target this free agent

'Yeah I like #55 Dee Ford off that end for us! Let's pay him what he wants!'

In a since-deleted tweet, Jets S Jamal Adams wasn't shy about one free agent he wanted the team to pursue this offseason.

"Yeah I like #55 Dee Ford off that end for us! Let's pay him what he wants!" Adams tweeted at 7:28 p.m. on Saturday as Ford and the Chiefs were crushing the Colts to advance to the AFC Championship Game.

The 27-year-old Ford had a tremendous game on Sunday, with one forced fumble, one sack, and four tackles.

During the regular season, the outside linebacker had a breakout campaign with 13 sacks and 55 tackles in 16 games.

Ford, who was the 23rd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, earned $8.718 million this season and is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

One hindrance to the Jets or any other team landing Ford could be the fact that the Chiefs have the option to place the franchise tag on him -- and that Ford seemingly doesn't mind playing under it.

"If someone offers you $20 million, would you take it? No-brainer right there," Ford recently told Kirk Larrabee of 247Sports about the potential of playing the 2019 season under the franchise tag.

The Jets, who are projected to have over $100 million in cap space heading into the offseason, are expected to be extremely active in free agency, where they could target RB Le'Veon Bell and others -- although the Jets might not be Bell's first choice

Would have been so much easier if Idzik had just selected Ford ahead of Calvin Pryor.  But we just had to have the Louisville Slugger.

Yeah and that was AFTER the NFL said they were cracking down much harder on certain hits, regarding a lot of Pryor’s college game useless.  They draft him anyway.

Jets as usual never got the memo.

Didnt make much difference as Pryor rarely got close enough to make any kind of play.

Well Jamal Adams does know our gm with his 'pay him what he wants' comment.

Okay Jamal we now have Dee Ford but we now cannot give you a new contract, also you can no longer line up on the los every play because we actually have a pass rusher now.  Go play back, far back in cover 2.

Refreshing.  Dee Ford is not only  a promising player, he also gets it.  Being "Franchised" and compensated for the average of the 5 highest paid players at your position isn't the "EVIL tool of Management"  that players make it out to be.  A viable 27 year old without a mega ego, and a brain, sign me up:  at the right price of course, right Presmal?

Don't say "Cover 2".  Makes me cringe; gives me flashbacks of "You play to win the Game" {NOT} Edwards, and  T. Bowels.

The opportunity costs from the Idzik and actually the entire Rex Ryan years are atrocious.  Pryor and Coples lol

Maccagnan's phone just rang.  It's Dee Ford's agent and he heard we'll pay anything for his client.  Thanks Jamal.

Macc: Hey hiya Brett it’s Macc from the Jets.

Chiefs GM: Who?

Macc: Macc Macc GM of the Jets. We met at the winter meetings remember?

Brett: No but what you want loser.

Macc: Ha ha ha. You so funnnny. Ok I got great deal for you. So I’ll give you Jamal Adams for Dee Ford straight up. It’s a good deal for us both. Jamaal is a 6th pick, great safety to replace Eric Berry and he’s under contract cheap for a couple years. Ford was a 14th pick and gonna cost you a ton and you’re strapped. Whata ya say? Great deal huh?

Brett: (Via FaceTime)

Nice display of a higher understanding of salary cap economics there by Jamal.

Jamal doesn't negotiate the contracts.  He can say whatever he wants. If a player thinks the Jets are going to pay him based on what Adams says, that player is too stupid to want on the team..

Side note. It's not as if there ever was a HC stupid enough to say stuff like that. Oh yeah, there was....  Rex Ryan.

Yep, Jamal needs to be fined, shut up and play. Talk only on field
