Years both HOME teams have punched their tickets to the Super Bowl: 21 times out of 48 seasons

1971, 1976, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Currently both home teams have won 5 seasons in a row from 2013 to 2017. That is the current longest streak both home teams have advanced to the Super Bowl. The second longest streak was 4 seasons from 1981 to 1984. Both home teams advancing to the Super Bowl happens 43.75% of the time.

Years both ROAD teams have punched their tickets to the Super Bowl: 3 times out of 48 seasons

1992, 1997, and 2012.

It's very rare for both road teams to advance to the Super Bowl. Both road teams advancing to the Super Bowl only happens 6.25% since the 1970 merger.

Years it's a split with one HOME and ROAD team punchinch their ticket to the Super Bowl: 24 times out of 48 seasons

1970, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1994, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2011.

It's been since 2011 there has been a split, but it has happened 50% of the time. The longest streak of having a split was 8 seasons long happening from 1998 to 2005.

When you look at the above patterns you just feel like the SPLIT is due today. As a Jets fan I hope that split means a Chiefs vs. Rams Super Bowl. That actually was a great game during week 11 this past season on Monday Night Football. I know some don't like those shootout games, but I definitely enjoyed that game, and think a Super Bowl like that would be a lotta fun.

The LEAST LIKELY Super Bowl is the Rams vs Patriots. Both road teams winning almost never happens. Then again, if the Rams win the first game today, those chances certainly go up considering Andy Reid is 1-2 as the home team in the Conference Championship, and 1-4 overall in Conference Championship games.

Earlier this week I predicted a Saints vs. Chiefs Super Bowl. I stand by that prediction.

Add 2019 to that. 4th time in 49 seasons both home teams lost in the Conference Championship round of the playoffs since the merger. Unbelievable day today. Rams vs Patriots again. I cannot root for the Patriots, so Go Rams.
