To use the cliché "running backs are a dime a dozen" when referring to Saquon Barkley is simply ridiculous.  The fact that he may be a more dangerous weapon out of the backfield than in it, in and of itself, should tell you that this is a different animal.  There is simply no player currently in the league, at this time that has more big play potential, to break one off, or  "flip the script" on the outcome of the game.  He is the most dynamic player in the NFL right now.  Period.  That includes, ,Bell, Beckham, Gurley, all of them.  And he's just a second year back.  If he's a dime a dozen player, here's my dime.

How many games did the Giants win. Dallas with Elliot was struggling until they traded for Cooper. Im not saying Barkley isn't a great player. In todays NFL, you can get the same results using multiple backs with different skills, and save money.

Good God I hate this argument. Even when used as determinative of a QB's value, where it at least has a little merit. It has no relevance with RBs (or any other position).

Jamal have a very good rookie year.
Jamal followed that up with a great year.
Oh look, the sky is falling.

SMH

That last year was a "great" year for Jamal Adams is kind of a home run as to why you don't draft a Jamal Adams at 6.

See, that's the dangerous thing about absolute statements. They only require one example to refute:

The Giants were a disaster. On both sides of the ball.  The Offensive line was horrendous,  the defensive line and secondary may have been even worse.  Saquon Barkley was the only player on the roster, during the course of the season, who played above his pay grade.  At times it seemed like he was playing against the other team's defense by himself, and succeeding.  If he hadn't been on the team last year, it's quite possible the don't win any games at all.  I know I'm reaching, but it's not far from the truth.  Elliot is not Barkley either.  The receiving advantage he brings to the offense, cannot be denied or underestimated.  Sure, you can,  "fill the need" with two players, but how is that a rational alternative to the ability to have a dynamic offense with one "special" player.  It's about roster spots and resources.  The argument about money does not hold water either.  Despite Barkley being on a rookie contract, the slant that he somehow would make less than a premier running back plus the salary of a premier wide receiver doesn't make sense.

You don't draft players who's impact on the outcome is almost nil.

Teams have 53 player rosters still and It’s still a team sport right?  If one player could do it by himself why ain’t Mahomes or Watson in the super bowl.

If you need all these other players in order for Adams to make an impact, maybe we ought to have gone after those other players.

We'll see. Hope it's just a vocal minority. But in my 40 years experience with this team, most fans act like playing for the Jets is a God-given privilege and if you disagree with what the team thinks you're worth, you're a traitor.

Hope so too.  Hard to judge reality when spending time on a board.  The complainers are so over the top and vocal.  Then I go to games and basically no one complained about players contracts or price for example.

I would say he made his impact led him to being a All Pro . If we got get more players playing on his level defense would be lights out .

But using ur logic since we have to find weapons and Olinemen for Sam to make his real impact . maybe we should of drafted other players instead of him right ?

Interesting, because I remember both.  Believe it or not, it's possible to think that Revis was a great CB who's business practices were not in the best interest of the Jets success.

Just as it's also possible to think that Jamal Adams is a good football player who was a bad draft pick at 6 with Mahommes/Watson on the board and Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty on the roster.

Just as it's also possible to think that Jamal Adams is a good football player who, barring significant improvement, wont be worth the salary cap allocation of a top safety, based on what he currently brings to the team.

Watch it Teddy, the millennials are scouring the board. Eric Berry drafted at 5. Sean Taylor drafted at 4. Earl Thomas drafted in low teens. It’s rare to draft a safety AT ALL in the first round and if you do, you better make sure his production is through the roof. There’s a reason a safety is NOT taken in the 1st round. Safety is NOT a premier position in the NFL. In fact it’s just above the punter.

It’s so rare that safety’s get drafted in rd 1 that it happens every year.   Like the 3 that went in rd 1 last year

No, because Quarterbacks actually matter re: wins and losses in every game.  Strong Safeties rarely do.

Here's some dominating Super Bowl performances by running backs where the player was most likely the driving force behind his team's ability to win the Championship:  Franco Harris, Pittsburgh Steelers, 34/158.  Larry Csonka, Miami Dolphins 44/145.  John Riggins, 38/166.  Emmitt Smith ,Dallas Cowboys,30/122.  Terrell Davis, Denver Broncos, 157 yards, 3 TD.  Marcus Allen,  LA Raiders, 197 Yards.  Timmy Smith, Washington Redskins, 204 Yards.                                Another thing,  You underestimate the effect that running the ball has in the overall outcome of the game, regardless of flash, or statistics, or clock control.  Without an effective running game, an offense likely has no passing game either and ultimately no success.  One game that stands out  in this years playoffs with  that the running game being the  most likely determining factor in the complexion of the game, was the Patriocheats win over Kansas City.  The Patriocheats ability to dominate the line of scrimmage and run the ball down the Chiefs throats, essentially the whole game, allowed them to control the game, open up the passing game and keep Mahomes  and the vaunted Chiefs offense off the field and off the scoreboard in the first half.

Depending on where you draw the line, I'm an older millennial.  Not sure generational lines are correct here.  And, if you're talking about Jamal Adams's self-promotion and whatnot, you're really looking more at Gen Z (iGeneration) anyway.

Every position in football matters . It’s the ultimate team game. Quarterback may be the most important but without the right pieces to help even the great ones not leading you to many wins . IE: Aaron Rodger this year .

Very rare. And of course we pick the wrong one  and not Hooker who is a ball hawk. But look back and you’ll see only a handful of safeties were taken in round 1 over the last 20 years. Look back at that 2017 draft. There are easily 20 players that would have been a better pick.

Yep. Instead of putting 80% of our top draft, picks, FA $ into D past 10 yrs, we should now put 80% of same resources into offense for next 12 years to balance things out.

Then why is there such disparity between how different positions get paid amongst the top 10 at each position?

1.  QB ($17.9-$20.4M)

2.  EDGE ($15-$18.8M)

3.  WR ($14-$17.3M)

4.  LT ($9.6-$12.3M)

5.  CB ($9.3-$12.2M)

6.  RB ($8.1-$14.4M)

7.  Non-Pass Rushing LB/DE ($7.4-$11.8M)

8.  Safety ($8.0-$11.6M)

9.  DT ($8.7-$11.5M)

10.  Guard ($7.8-$11M)

11.  Center ($6.4-$10M)

12.  TE ($6.7-$8.4M)

13.  RT ($4.5-$7.5M)

14.  Kicker/Punter/Fullback ($1.7-$4.2M)

Yes, good QBs can be held back by bad teams.

But, rarely does a team without a good QB go far.

Meanwhile, the Super Bowl SS match-up includes 0 All-Pros and 0 Pro-Bowls.  And, one of those players was drafted 85 picks after Jamal Adams.

Point well taken. It seems like a lot of the younger fans flock towards Jamal ‘Look at Me’ Adams. As much as we all hate Belicheat, he wouldn’t tolerate Jamal’s antics. Nope.

Belichick has gronk, belichick will tolerate any player as long as they do their jobs on the field and they don't tear apart the team.  BB wouldn't have any issues with Adams

Lil Bro, Hooker was playing lights OUT before he was injured. And Maye IMO is a better safety than Adams since he can tackle AND play the pass at a higher level. Unfortunately he too has been often injured. And I’m not going thru the 20. Look it up yourself. Easily 20 of those guys have had a bigger impact on their teams over Jamal. And there’s absolutely no excuse for taking him at 6 when Mahomes and Watson were there and you don’t have a QB. But God works in mysterious ways so perhaps Jamal's claim to fame will be Macc was forced to trade up to be in position for a QB, which resulted in Sam, because he WASTED the pick on a routine run of the mill safety.

He wasn’t playing lights out wtf . Besides his 3 ints what else did he do in 14 games ?  Maye would of had way better numbers than hooker if he played 14-16 games .

Im Sam darnold supporter I couldn’t care less about passing on Mahomes and Watson . Who btw aren’t in the super bowl either . In fact Mahomes had time to play in same pro bowl game as Jamal and they even posted a ton ig vids together the irony
