"Street/Other Free Agents (SFA)

SFA’s are players who had contracts that extended into at least 2016 with a NFL team but were released from the contract. Players who were released or not on an active roster prior to the playoffs were free to sign futures contracts for the 2016 League Year in January. Now that the Super Bowl is complete, teams can begin to release players under contract for 2016. Unlike unrestricted free agents who are not allowed to sign until March 9, these players are free to sign with any team in the NFL once released from their contract.

Usually players released from their contract during this period are those who don’t factor at all into the future plans of a team and the team sees fit to let them have an early chance at free agency, Players like Michael Griffin, Nate Allen, and Riley Cooper all recently cut fit into this category. These players do not factor into any compensatory equations and would be the type of free agent that draft conscious teams like the Ravens and Packers would target once available."

This is a write up from 2016... so ignore the dates

Thanks.  So as I read it, if a team officially releases a veteran now, he's a SFA and can talk to and sign.  So players who are UFAs can't qualify for this (or they would not factor into comp pick equation) but players under contract, like Jamie Collins, wouldn't factor into the comp anyway, can be released any time and can talk and sign immediate.  Good info.

It's a bit fuzzy, but I get it.  So back to the initial point, who is out there as an SFA right now that you've heard teams talking to but the Jets aren't?

Chicago Bears Sign Kicker With Maybe the Worst Name Ever

I obviously spit balling here, but this is what I think happened. The Jets (Macc and Gase) went into the legal tampering period with a very set plan. They had a list of big targets, and were prepared

theres just not insane talent on the FA market offensively. Bell wants 50 mil, its not happening here, its just not worth paying an RB that kind of money. We can add some WR's but who are we adding? h

Yes, there are teams bringing them in. And vested veterans that are cut can sign immediately, they don't have to wait for FA.... Please, I know the difference.

Who has brought them in?  Who has signed?

The board would be so much easier to follow if any and all free agent happenings were posted here instead of random threads started about every free agent or player cut.

Theres a reason this thread was pinned. @Patriot Killa

I made the mistake of posting the Mark Ingram thread before I saw this thread.

, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

Free agent S Eric Weddle will visit the Rams.

The safety market is loaded, but the Ravens releasing Weddle this week gives him a bit of a head start. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the veteran safety has received 11 offers, but he has pared the list down to five. One of those five is obviously the Rams, who could use some help with LaMarcus Joyner headed to free agency.

    DANNY AMENDOLAWR, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

    Dolphins released Danny Amendola.

Amendola's future has been up in the air all offseason, but the Dolphins finally made the decision to cut ties on Friday. DeVante Parker's release should follow in short order, leaving Miami with Kenny Stills, Albert Wilson, and not much else on the depth chart. Amendola caught 59 passes for 575 yards and a touchdown his one season in Miami. The 33-year-old should latch on with a contender if he wants to continue his career.

Mike Glennon was released   sign the BEAST!!  @Villain The Foe

I'd actually consider him at vet minimum type compensation to compete with Webb for the backup job. He's not worth paying actual money to, but he's good enough to compete for the #2 job in camp.

Why are the Jets not linked to any of these FAs... I mean you don't hear a peep about them bringing in any FA. Seriously WTF is Mac doing.

That's the way it has been since Macc got here. Have you not gotten used to it yet?

Calm down a smidgeon.  Not one guy who has been cut or traded is worrisome.

I get it, but he has no leeway and this is the first time in years that it will screw over the franchise for years to come if he screws this up. When they seem to have an actual qb

The same thing the Jets were doing when we were all arguing about McCarthy or Matt Rhule.   They're on the phone with Peyton Manning.
